Lakanto is a no-calorie sugar substitute with a taste you'll love! It's a lot like raw sugar, but with one big difference: zero calories and a zero glycemic index that won't affect your blood sugar levels. This all-natural “sugar alcohol” (or polyol) is produced through a fermentation process and has been approved for use as a sugar substitute in the United States and throughout much of the world. Lakanto is produced via natural fermentation of certified Non-GMO corn. “Lakanto ” is Japanese for "sweet fruit." It has become the #1 selling natural sugar substitute in Japan. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar, which is why they use erythritol, a natural sugar alcohol as the main ingredient. It has zero calories and zero glycemic effect. It is all natural. I started giving it to my husband in his coffee and he couldn't tell the difference. I don't sense any after taste. It is a life saver for diabetics.

Has given me sudden and explosive diarrhea and a massive headache. I honestly thought I came down with the flu but it was so sudden, and asymptomatic, that I ruled out influenza immediately. Did some quick research and read that bowel problems may be a side effect so there you have it. Grateful to Amazon for their excellent customer service and refund; but no thanks for the monkfruit sugar. Geesh

It is not pure monk fruit, does have erithritol in it which is a sugar alcohol, but this is the only one that I know of that is Non-GMO so it's safer.
