Bob's Red Mill starches and thickeners

Tapioca Flour

Tapioca Flour is one of our most versatile gluten free flours. This starchy, slightly sweet flour is a staple in gluten free baking and a fantastic thickening agent in soups, sauces and pie fillings.

It’s a paleo diet favorite as well as one of the main ingredients for pao de queijo, or Brazilian cheese bread. Use with other alternative flours like coconut flour, cassava flour, potato starch and arrowroot starch with xanthan gum for best results.

Perfect for making vegan cheese.
5 out of 5 stars
Perfect for making vegan cheese.
My family and I all eat a healthy plant based diet, and throughout the years I have learned a lot of cool ways to make vegan cheeses. A few of the recipes I came across called for using Tapioca flour in them. After (unsuccessfully) searching high and low for it, locally, I was happy to find it on here. They say that adding the Tapioca flour (to your cheese) will make it a lot more stretchy and meltable. You'll get a fairly good sized package of the Tapioca flour. The amount called for in my recipe wasn't all that much, so I forsee this lasting me quite a long time. This, for me, helps keeps the cost inexpensive and worth purchasing. Tapioca flour is a gluten free product, so you could also use this as a regular flour alternative for baking; however, I haven't tried that yet. It was easy to work with and I'm happy to have found it. It seems to be of good quality and is from a brand I know and trust.

I have recently gone back to being gluten free due to my doctor's recommendation. I am not gluten intolerant or allergic to gluten, but due to a health issue I do better without the gluten free grains. I recently started making Brazilian Cheese bread after finding a recipe online. I had first tasted the Brazilian Cheese Bread at a restaurant that specialized in food from Brazil. This is a naturally gluten free bread, very tasty, and uses Cassava flour or Tapioca Flour/starch. I have made it a few times now using Bob's Red Mill Tapioca Flour and my whole family really like this bread including my grandchildren. I also use this tapioca flour in other recipes calling for it and find that it works very well.

I agree with another reviewer that the 4 pack is a better deal but I just purchased one because I couldn’t see myself ever using four bags of this at a time. Highly recommend.

As a sufferer of celiac I have been searching for quality breads and pizza crust for quite a while now and have decided that tapioca and tapioca/rice flours are the best for making most savory bread products, particularly pizza. Tapioca makes a great crispy/chewy crust that is the closest to real pizza that us gluten-free folks are likely to get. At 80 ounces for just over 12 dollars (or less than 12 if you use subscribe and save) this is a great value. Bob's Red Mill has led the way on the gluten-free product front, their gluten-free grains and flours are tested using ELISA which is a highly sensitive way to detect gluten in a product. Thus, you can feel secure knowing that this product isn't going to make you sick. My one compaint about this product is true for most (or all) Bob's Red Mill products, I don't like the packaging. Tapioca flour is quite fine and can make quite a mess. Bob's Red Mill's crinkly plastic package is hard to open (you should definitely use a scissors or perhaps a sharp knife) and even more difficult to securely re-seal. I usually put the leftover flour in a tupperware container for less mess and to ensure that bugs are going to get into my flour after I open it up. All in all a good product that I rely on for much of my gluten-free baking needs.

Deciding to go mostly gluten free is not really that big a deal. I have found that it is easier to control belly fat when the gluten intake is eliminated or at least reduced. I have found many tasty recipes using this Bob's Red Mill Tapioca flour. One of my favorites is pancakes. I had eliminated pancakes from my breakfast menu because of the large gluten contents but when made with tapioca flour they are just as tasty.

As I mentioned above, I have tried numerous recipes with this tapioca flour and most were tastier than expected. However, my biggest surprise was with my worst affliction. Like many, if not most, others I am a chocoholic. Regardless of being on a vegan plan or being a vegetarian or you name it, when anything at all with chocolate is within my reach I will consume it in a NY minute. Now I have found many chocolate recipes that use tapioca flour that have cut my guilt feelings at least in half. If only I could cut my desire for chocolate in half but I know it will never happen.

I find the price for this product here on Amazon to be favorable and being delivered to my door is all I can ask.. When my present supply runs out I will be back here for more.

I just purchased my second box of this. It is really good tapioca flour. I have had good results with it in various recipes. I have not used it to make bread, but I've used it in desserts, sauces, pies, and to thicken hot cocoa. I don't notice a particular "flavor" in any of these uses, including the hot cocoa (as I make it), but I may have grown accustomed to it. The texture is very fine - like powder - so you need to be careful when using it as it can spread around quite a bit from little spills. I would recommend it to anyone looking for tapioca flour.
