Phone is rather heavy and does not look well designed. I haven't been able to make calls or use any feature on the phone. General feel is poor.
I got this phone in the middle of busy academic year and kept it for about 3 weeks before setting it up. The volume button was bad out of the box - volume button is touchy and sometimes it gets stuck.
The warranty is handled by a 3-party company. Sent it in for repairs or replacement, but the company that handles the warranty on this phone is not customer friendly at all.
They put you on hold forever and don't offer status update..you pretty much in the dark on when you get the phone back. You pay for the shipping as well.
Just selling a phone is not enough but you have to also provide a good customer service and this phone doesn't have that with it.

I'm going to compare a few features of the Blu R1 Plus to my older Blu Studio X Plus, and a $40 Alcatel OneTouch Flint Cricket phone. They are similar phones, basically the same processor speed, and same 5.5 inch screens. The main issues with the Alcatel was the only choice I had was LTE, other options were missing on Android 5. Being a Cricket phone, the option to use WIFI was locked out, unless you paid $10 more a month. Beware of phones from service providers.
Blu phones are unlocked and come with few sponsored apps. The R1 has Amazon and of course the usual Google junk you can't get rid of. Is the upgrade to Android 6 worth it? Not really, but they did eliminate the Google pull up from the bottom of the screen. Android also tripled the amount to clicks to move apps to the SD card, and that is still limited. I use Nova Launcher to set up my screen the way I like it, and didn't give Android a second look. Also, updating the new phone didn't work. It spent a half hour uploading 1 app. I went into Play and updated what I wanted. Each took about 5 seconds to upload. Now SD cards have to be formatted before use. So you loose everything and have to add pics and songs back on the SD card.
The R1 has 32Gb of internal memory, and 3Gb of RAM, which makes it a bit faster than the Studio X with the same processor. Memory is a real plus at that price. The LTE shows maybe 2 bars where the Studio X with 3-4G showed 5. The Internet says it is common for LTE to show fewer bars. Android 6 has options, 2G only, 2-3-4G and 2-3-4G plus LTE. Settings don't seem to make a difference and I don't think they moved a half dozen towers. The Alcatel showed the same low bars, but the signal went in and out. The Blu R1 has low bars but a consistent signal.
The back case is plastic, not aluminum like advertised. But think of it. Can you really trust good quality aluminum on an imported phone? They miss one alloy and your metal is either to stiff, or too easy to bend. They seem to have plastics down the right way.
Blu sent a budget screen protector. Both sides were full of dust under the cover sheets. Took me a half hour to clean the dust off the sticky side before I could reapply it to the screen. There are still bubbles. Forget plastic screen protectors, they aren't worth the aggravation.
Not sure if the curved screen is the way to go. The screen protector is hard to line up and put on straight, and only covers the very top, sort of. The plastic reduces some of the sensitivity to the screen, but the Alcatel with a glass screen protector is a real chore as a touch screen. The R1 has a much better response. The processor is rather quick, for everyday chores. I don't play games on my phone.
As for the speaker. I didn't buy a $2000 stereo system. The speaker is fine, better than any phone I've owned. None of them in the high end after Android 4. For the price, the memory and RAM on a 5.5 inch phone is great. Lacks a few features higher end phones over $200 have, but it is solid and works great. Not sure of the non removal battery. I like to buy a spare battery. The gel case is included, but has a bit of a gap opposite the buttons. Cases and glass screen protectors are coming.
There is an LED telling you the phone is plugged in and charging Not sure if some app can use those that LED to give notices I care about. But that is worth checking out.

Value for the Cost

Why expect high end phone for the bargain basement price. Just to complain about the speaker being lousy.
A:This is a plus. The 32 GB is for storing programs, photos, mp3, etc. The 3GB ram is used when executing programs. More ram is better when you want to run more apps at the same time,
A:How could you have purchased this product when the launch date is May 2, 2017? Maybe you are commenting on the old BLU R1. The problems of speakers that may have existed with the old BLU R1 may have been corrected by the new BLU R1 Plus 4G LTE. I took advantage of the deal and ordered one BLU R1 Plus and whatever happens, $109 is not such a big money to gamble on the product. All I know is that Blu Products have really improved recently when you consider the affordability with other expensive products and I hope the new BLU R1 4G LTE would be what I expected it to be..
