Great Bulb for Price (Need a Phillips HUE Hub to be able to controll)

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2017The price is the only drawback, but bundled as two (and even better, the three-bulb package), they are less apt to provoke sticker shock. The touted lifespan of approximately 20 years, if that holds up, also diminishes the jolt of the price. It's likely that advancing technology will make the bulb obsolescent before it burns out. The performance is reliable with warm white light (no color changing with these bulbs) that can be dimmed down, brightened up, and turned on and off, either via Alexa or Apple Homekit (i.e. Siri). The bulbs are instantly responsive to such commands. Both the Hue app itself (for iOS) and Homekit allow for routines that customize brightness for entire rooms as well as individual lights. You should note that these bulbs require the Philips Hue hub, which connects with your iOS device and to Alexa. Setup is easy, and so far none of the bulbs has dropped a connection or required additional attention.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2017These bulbs work great and are fairly cheap compared to other HUE light products. They are just white, so if you are looking for color changing ones you should go with: Philips 456202 Hue White and Color Ambiance Light Bulb, A19, Single (2nd Generation), Works with Amazon Alexa and Apple Homekit (Certified Refurbished) However if you are just looking for the white lights these are great. They have a wide range of dimming ability which I have pictures of below (The brightest is 100%, the middle one is 50% and the low is the lowest setting).
These were very easy to install using the HUE app on my Android phone and also they work great for programming my lights to automatically come on and off at given times of the night. I would highly recommend these for anyone who already has a HUE Hub, as it is required for these to work.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2019Using these with Alexa. Not as easy as flipping a switch used to be but can really come in handy when you forget to turn a light off. We're constantly leaving the garage light on and don't think about it until we're in bed. Now we can just say "Turn off garage". The LED type bulbs should last much longer too. So far, I think we've got just over a year on our first set and still going strong.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2018Great way to ease into the smart home. Love the dimmability and voice integration with both Alexa and Google Home. This is actually the second one I've bought. One for my house and this one for my Sister-in-Law, she saw ours and wants it for her house. Wife loves that she can turn on the lights from the driveway rather than come into a dark house and search for a switch, a big plus with two small kids. One note: if power goes out, when it comes back all of these lights will come on at full brightness. Had my wife cursing Google at 1:30am when this happened recently.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2016This is simply as easy as it gets. If you have not already done so, you will need to buy the HUE Bridge. I found it best to order the kit, download the HUE Application, set up the bridge and bulbs and your in business. I have the Echo and two Dots so I walk around the house and speak to turn on the lights as I come and go. Love this technology.
It may seem like a toy, but you quickly get used to having the ability to turn on and off the lights without walking to them. Great when you are ready for bed and the lamp is a bit of a reach, or you have a couple of lights out of reach. (Also if your significant other is already asleep).
With the application you can check to see of the lights are out or on as you wish from anywhere you can use the application on your phone.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2018The products are fine as of lights; however, the repeated "Updates" repeatedly break any and all integration, the repeated having to re-name the lights in the app, in google home etc. and the excessive "SCENES" for every room showing up as an object creating 40 bulbs into 200 objects within smart home integraiton apps is ridiculous.
Furthermore when the lights fail the Customer Service from Hue draws out any warranty for months on end. I have 3 lights (out of 40) that failed (they repeatedly turn on, and will never turn off) in one of the most common failures (youtube full of videos). There is a 2 year warranty, maybe if they draw out the conversation longer than 2 years they can deny the warranty claim? I have been back and forth via email for 3 months with them. I have 45+ lights and they wont warranty 3..
Update:
After 31 emails and 3 months, I received 3 replacement bulbs for those that were under warranty. Unfortunately someone at HUE has come up with the bright idea that Quality Control Rejects are suited for Warranty Rejects. The bulbs molding was damaged or discolored.
Way to go Hue.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2017Philips lights themselves are beautiful! The price is very fair for their plain white bus, as well. The have a wonderful color to them and it is easy to read and do other detailed tasks next to them. That said, their entire hub design works relatively slow to competitors bulbs I have used with my Echo. If I tell Alexa dim "xzy" scene to 50%, it takes a good 3-4 seconds to execute the command. I have a very fast, modern wifi network in my house. I recently purchased a different company's bulbs that do not require a hub that are pretty much instantaneous.
Where Philips does seem to have the advantage is how many different bulb types they have. If one only wants white lights, I would look elsewhere. If you want to integrate lots of multi color bulbs and scenes, I do the Philips has the edge - for now.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey...but
I love the Hue series although quite expensive. Once you have the bridge you are pretty much suckered in to buying Hue product here on out, but the up side is I have never have a problem with install or setting up. Works great with its app or with Google Home.
Bottomline: Pricey product line but they just work

5.0 out of 5 stars These smart bulbs are the intelligent choice
Great addition to the house. Works wonderfully when you don't have / can't install dimmers. We have the Hue bulbs linked to our Amazon Echo Plus - we control them using voice or through the Alexa smartphone app. We've had the bulbs for about 1 months and everything works great. I hope they will last at least 5 yrs, if not more...
