    Mike Stern Dazzled The Room!

by joconnor1357 on 11/22/13Jazz Cafe At Music Hall - Detroit

Mike is an amazing and fluent musician. To shine in a trio format the way he does is much harder than one can imagine. With just his guitar, Tom Kennedy on bass and Richie Morales on drums, he fills the room with melodic and mercurial sounds. The energy and affability he brings to his fans makes him a memorable performer. This is the third consecutive year I have gone to the Detroit Music Hall Jazz Cafe to see Mike Stern and I will go every year!

Mike Stern Burns The House Down!

by joconnor1357 on 10/12/12Jazz Cafe At Music Hall - Detroit

Mike Stern can play any type of venue, large or small. This is the second time I saw him at the Detroit Music Hall Jazz Cafe and he gets better every time. I took my girlfriend who is not really a big jazz fan, but she really liked how Mike moved from jazzy to rocky, so easily and fluidly. He really surprised me when he sang scat vocals over a couple of his songs. He did very well and added to the superb guitar work he is known for. He played this show in a trio format, which is a very difficult one to attempt for any musicians. When I think of the great artists that have pulled off masterful shows in the trio format, I am reminded of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Pat Metheny and the famous Trio of Doom (Pastorious, Williams and McLaughlin). Well, add Mike Stern to that list because he does it effortlessly. Bassist Tom Kennedy and Drummer Richie Morales were so phenomenal, I wondered why they aren't household names in their own right! This group's talent and Mike's compostions made for an amazing evening. Mike is a terrific guy with his fans too. Always smiling, laughing, listening and above all, he makes you feel like he cares that you showed up. I am so glad I saw him in such an intimate and personable setting again!

    Mike Stern is unbelievable

by bbsuzi on 8/16/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

An evening you will never forget, as Mike Stern' s talent and personality make for a night of jazz that is impossible to forget. Stern played a variety of tunes from past CD's and from his latest, Big Neighborhood. He shared the stage with his blistering bassist and five top-notch jazz drummers. Never a dull moment and never a wasted note.He is truly talented, and a class act all the way. If Mike Stern comes withing 150 miles of your town, go and see him!

    Mike Stern

by Herbg on 10/5/09Jazz Cafe At Music Hall - Detroit

Mike and his band were fantastic. After the show he came out and talked to fans and what a great guy he is. The only problem is that I don't think the show was well advertised, there was only about 30 people there.

Best show I have ever seen, hands down!

by joconnor1357 on 9/21/09Jazz Cafe At Music Hall - Detroit

The venue was simply perfect. I felt like Mike Stern and his band were in my living room. I sat less than 20 feet from the stage and the mastery of the instruments by these musicians was simply impressive. I got Mike's autograph on his new CD and spoke to the band members one-on-one in a relaxed environment. I stayed for both sets and I'll never forget the night! If I didn't have a family dinner obligation on Saturday night, I would have gone to see the show again (both sets)! Anyone who enjoys A+ musicians and loves jazz needs to see Mike Stern some time soon. He is not to be missed. He is one of the most informal and friendly musicians I have ever met. He made us all feel welcomed to the show and made it a point to "work the room" talking to everyone.
