Q: Will this printer print black only when a color cartridge is empty?
A: my magenta is empty right now and i cannot get it to print anything at all... :(

A: Should work with a genuine brother cartridge. Brother keeps updating their software to prevent compatible cartridges from being recognized. Have had good results with LD brand cartridges. They will replace cartridges within a year of purchase. You just have to call them.
