I bought coconut oil at the suggestion of my doctor, who recommended it for moisturizing, as I have very dry, sensitive skin. Previous to this brand of coconut oil, I bought a slightly cheaper one that melted at a lower temperature than usual and originally had no smell, but became very unpleasant smelling over time. I almost did not buy a new jar because of that experience, but I decided to try out a different brand, which led me to Nature's Way Coconut Oil.

I'm extremely glad I bought this one. It was worth the few extra dollars I paid in comparison to the cheaper oil I tried first; lesson learned, I guess! If you're using it to moisturize, it is still a great price considering that the jar is 16oz, and you can pay much more for a small tube of regular moisturizer at the drug store.

This jar stays solid at the correct temperatures--it does not liquefy in the jar unless you put it somewhere warm. It applies to the skin smoothly, with a creamy texture right out of the jar that quickly melts due to the heat of your skin. I haven't had any skin reactions to it, though I have not used it long term on my face and I have heard coconut oil can cause acne in some people, so that might be something to be wary of if you are acne-prone.

It smells fantastic! I'm a sucker for food smells in my soap, moisturizers, perfumes, etc., so I'm really happy with this aspect of it. Even my husband, who doesn't like coconut, says the oil smells good enough to eat...which is actually possible with this product! If you're interested in using this oil for consumption and in cooking, as it is packaged for, I imagine that the good smell means that it would make a nice replacement oil or new addition to your food. The only thing that I am slightly confused about is the spots of grey discoloration at the bottom of the jar. I noticed this in my first jar of coconut oil as well. It looks bad, but the product still seems to be safe for use.

I've used the oil to moisturize in various capacities. It works well wherever you need extra moisture, and doesn't feel greasy like other oils if you massage it into your skin. However, I'm not positive that the coconut oil works as well as heavier moisturizers on extremely dry, flaky patches. This is problematic if you are using it because you're typically allergic to moisturizers, like I am, but I'll continue to use it on moderately dry areas. My favorite use for it so far is as a pre-shave oil. I apply a light coat to areas I am going to shave and let it soak in before applying shaving cream. It helps to soften the hair and skin, resulting in a smoother shave and a lot fewer nicks and patches of razor burn. I'd actually highly recommend the coconut oil for this use alone.

First, there are literally HUNDREDS of uses for coconut oil. I have been using coconut oil for years in many applications in my life including:
    Cooking/Kitchen:
    1) I cure my cast iron cookware with it (holds up to the heat well, you can really tell how little you need after the first few seasonings).
    2) I roast vegetables with it.
    3) Works great for roasting/grilling/searing certain gentle-tasting foods (such as fish).
    4) Popcorn tastes amazing with this as either a light drizzled topping (think movie theater popcorn butter) or in the pan if you stove pop your own popcorn at home (tastes so much better than microwaved).
    Drinking:
    1) I add a spoonful to coffee sometimes for added energy but also a subtle but rich flavour (it also is supposed to help with digestion and bad (ie COFFEE) breath).
    2) I take a supplement that requires a 'fatty bonding agent' to absorb better when taken. If you do the same, a teaspoon of coconut oil dissolved in a hot liquid will do the trick.
    3) It adds a fantastic flavor to many hot brewed teas. Try it!
    Household:
    1) I dab a little on a cloth and run it on my baseboards for less dust build-up and a nice shine.
    2) A little bit on a cloth across ANY surface will give it a dust free shine (think of Pledge chemical spray, same effect, but organic).
    Self:
    1) I moisturize my beard year-round with it after shaving/grooming.
    2) I moisturize my body in the colder months of the year.
    3) After a haircut or when my hair is dry I use it as a leave-in conditioner.
    4) In a pinch it works well as lubricant.
    Pet:
    1) After I wash my dog I will put a little on his coat for conditioning and shine.
    2) I mix a spoonful in with my dogs food daily (reduces bad breath, eliminates hairballs, aids in digestion and absorption).

PS - If you live somewhere warmer (or keep your house above 75 degrees), this is a product that CAN mold if not stored in a refrigerator. At very cold temps, hard to work with. At room temp, easy to work with, melts in your hands!

Horrible was in clumps and went on body not smooth!

This is by far, the best thing I have ever became obsessed with - coconut oil. This brand is my favorite and I buy it all the time now. I like coconut flavor, and it's very flavorful . I use this in my teas and coffee: it adds a tiny hint of coconut flavor, just a tad....while glossing my lips as I drink and has made them much softer. I drink it for its anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, Anti-bacterial benefits. I began drinking it in coffee and teas when I was getting sick often, and was tired of medicines and no cures. But then it didn't stop there.... For years I have battled with red sensitive skin. I have spent thousands in expensive "sensitive skin" beauty face washes and creams. Even the most sensitive (and expensive) brands broke my face out. I started washing my face with coconut oil, and for the first time in 5 years my face was normal, soft, not red or tight. It cleans off makeup great. For a moisturizer, I put the coconut oil canister in hot water, melt it, pour it in a jar, squirt some vitamin E and aloe Vera in it to make a two weeks supply, and use it daily. Scrapped all my $100 bottles of moisturizer.... I cook with it as an oil. I use it in place of shaving cream: I have way less bumps now, and my legs are so soft afterwards I need no lotion. I use it as a lip balm. On my cuticles to soften and to keep any fungi away. There are a hundred uses for it, but these are my favorites. It has saved me a ton of money, I feel a lot healthier, my candida is slowly getting better with the help of this. this brand is great and a good amount for the price.
