I use this pack for my two week excursions in the backcountry of Yosemite. I take my 6 year old son so I need to carry most of the gear and food. Yosemite means bears and bears mean bear cans. Bear cans mean weight. So does 12 days of food for two people. My pack load quickly hits over 70 pounds when you add a few liters of water. I'm 5'7" so carrying a load like this can be a nightmare; this pack makes it as easy as it can be. The load is comfortable and stable over very rough terrain and well distributed when you make the adjustment to the straps. The hip belt is phenomenal, detachable, and replaceable if needed - it comes with the pack BTW. You can take the belt into a dealer like REI to get it molded to your body. I did not do this but I can't imagine it fitting better. I have had the pack for over two years now and it's as good as the day I got it. When heavily rained on I use a pack cover that keeps out the wetness. The pack itself, without the cover, keeps out the light drizzle. When the pack took a quick involuntary dip into fast moving stream it dried out quickly and without issue. The detachable top that converts into a small day pack, or large fanny pack, was very useful. This pack is a dependable joy and I would replace it as quick as I could if it was stolen or eaten by bears.

A Consideration for a Perspective Buyer:
None of the reviews I've read have mentioned a disturbing design implement of this pack...
I ordered one to see what the Osprey packs were all about. Top ratings on lots of boards and High Marks on all of the Random Civilian Hiker .coms... I wanted to see it for myself.

It arrived yesterday- and picking it up out of the box- I was frightened by what seems to be some kind of "Frame"... a thin little aluminium bar plainly visible along the sides of the pack. It seemed almost like the pack was fastened to the "Frame" by little strips of rip stop... Ok.

I've seen, worn, and worn out a few packs in my time (Infantry Combat Veteran), so has my little brother (2x 4mo PCT). Old External frames are a familiar sight to us both. But this is some new-fangled hybrid. Where the arch of your back rests against the pack- this "frame" makes an inverse arc- the other direction.
-Imagine a Kids car seat- with the sides of the headrest flanged so that the baby's head doesn't flop around when you are bending corners...
-Its like wearing a bucket inside your pack instead of strapping down a properly packed Gear Load-Out to your Suspension with Compression Straps.
...Maybe they decided that rather than education, example and experience teaching someone how to use gear (or in this case Pack a Pack using compression straps), They just thought up a way to try and bypass the lessons altogether using a new design.
    Kinda Like Windows 7.

This type of ridged frame was not at all mentioned on the Osprey website or amazon. "Internal Frame" is what each site listed it as, which I interpret to mean Aluminium Stays on the back Panel.
This thing is what I call External Frame, all day. Meaning The Pack itself is tied onto this 360 thin, ridged, aluminium skeleton. Being an External Frame- there are only limited compression straps.

    My Rule Is:
$400+ and you better be IN LOVE when you rip those tags off, and this pack didn't even make it out of the plastic bag in my house. There it sits by the front door with the return label on it.

... ALL This Being Said I could see that given No Other Option someone could load this thing up, throw it on their back, and be better off than some other guy with an antiquated 70's style frame pack...

My Little Brother and I LIVE out of Our Packs, and This Child's Carseat Design of the "Frame" -with its lack of compression straps- is a complete mystery to me.

I Bought an E-stock V69 Destroyer and V90 Battleship instead.

When I received my Osprey Argon 85 delta blue I was really excited.

The pack by itself is incredible, but it was without the essential hipbelt, which makes the backpack totally useless.

Better information regarding what's included and what's not.

I think it's terrible to have international shipping only for the backpack , because if you want the hipbelt, that's not even an option to get it shipped outside US.

I purchased this bag after a lot of research on many different outlet websites as well as backpacker blogs. After receiving it, I am completely pleased with what I see so far. It is made well and feels extremely durable. Having a lifetime warranty also helps ease the mind considering the price tag that comes with it. I haven't had a chance to hike with it yet, and for that reason I gave it 4 stars, but I'm looking forward to it. I just had the hip belt molded to my body by one of the local EMS shops and the pack fits like a glove. Tested it out with about 40lbs and the pack displaces the weight so well that it feels like you have far less on your back. Looking into a trip on the AT and one out in Yellowstone, so we'll see how the pack handles then... I'm willing to bet this pack will pass with flying colors and is a 5 star pack just as many other people have said. If you have a need for a durable pack with a lot of space, this is the one for you!

I bought this backpack about two years ago for our trip to Switzerland. I have a day pack for weekend backpacking trips, but I needed something more comfortable for moving around in Europe. This backpack is very comfortable and had the right fitting and customized hip belt. I would highly recommend this backpack. I have not used this backpack for any weekend trips, but hopefully I will sometime in the future.
