About to do my 4th RMA on this thing

About to do my 4th RMA on this thing
Hasn't worked right since I bought it. First card died after a few weeks. Next three gave me constant crashes. Tried re-installing Windows 7, tried it in other computers, nothing worked. Maybe the 5th time is a charm... Update 10/20 (uploaded a photo) I still haven't been able to get a working replacement copy of this card. At this point I've tried them in 3 different known working machines and still get random crashes under load at default clock. I'm wondering if they got a bad batch of GPUs or something. All of the replacements they've sent seem to crash in the same place when I try to run the KMark P-score benchmark included in MSI's Kombustor, the spot is about 45% in on the the 3rd graphics test (geometry instancing.) All the cards they're sending me also run about 15 degrees C hotter than the ones they sent out for review. The first card ran great for months before it finally just quit working altogether, but I can't seem to get a working replacement and the "support" folks are starting to hint that I'm on my last replacement. My old crossfire 5850s (also XFX Black Editions) work fine as do my wife's 6870s in crossfire, but I still did a complete format and re-install of windows just to be sure it wasn't software related. At this point I think if I can get a working copy I'll just ebay it and buy something else as I really don't want to deal with XFX support again.

While this card is killer. And takes anythign i throw at it its 2 fans ar lacking the abilit yto cool the card. I have had many times where the video starts flashing and getting blocky the machine starts acting up. I really wish they xfx had done a better job at cooling this card. I have owned many of there cards and this black edition jsut is not up to there par for black edition cards.

I would like to preface this by saying I own my own business doing PC repair and building custom PCs for a living. I have owned more than a few cards.

I had always been a Nvidia guy until a friend talked me into purchasing an AMD 6970. After going through a nightmare just getting the card to work right (AMD drivers) I finally got it running smooth. I then added a second one. This caused too much heat and it never worked right. Either one card wouldn't clock up or usage was low. Games just never ran right with both cards.

I decided to give AMD one last shot and since I had a prior good experience with XFX I decided to order this card. Wow is all I can say. I run BF3 in eyefinity on high settings and get 40-45 FPS..with ONE card. That's equal to or better than the 2 6970s together could do. Not to mention its a lot smoother.
    No stutter at all.

The best part though is how quiet and cool it is. I leave the fan on auto and even under full load it never breaks 65c. Fan is dead quiet too. Would definitely recommend this card.

I have had this beast running for a little over a month now, and boy does it kill my old crossfired 6870's! Not only is it super fast(BF3 w/o vsync all ultra w/o AA in 1920/1080 is netting me 145fps average in singleplayer and around 75-90 in multi.) Sadly, my cpu is holding back the card from using vsync and aa well... damn phenom ll X 1055t.... Oh also! This thing runs cool! 28c idle and 60c max underload in bf3. I have the NZXT switch loaded with fans so this helps aton.... GET THIS CARD! ITS AMAZING IF YOU DON"T WANNA FORK OVER THE NVIDIA PRICE!

    Well...

I have this GPU paired up with a Crosshair V Formula board and a FX-8150. I have the CPU overclocked to 4.5ghz and this is a good match to the card.

Pros: Extremely quiet compared to my old card: and XFX 5870. The single fan on the 5870 was MUCH louder than the 7950. Unless you manually increase the fan speed you will hardly notice that it's there. My corsair H80 makes much more noise while on the medium cooling setting.

Also, it doesn't accept huge overclocks but I was able to get a stable overclock at 1025mhz on the GPU clock and 1425mhz on the memory clock using the catalyst software. Super easy using sliders in the catalyst software. This does pretty good on BF3(the main reason I got this card). I don't have any benchmarks...but the improvement over the 5870 is significant...at least 20-30 fps depending on the map.

I also like the physical looks of the card. It looks pretty good in my HAF 932 case. I personally love the silver on red trim for the side of the card that faces you when you look at the MB.

Cons: Not many at this point. I don't like the fact that the XFX warranty has been decreased to 2 years. I really liked the double lifetime coverage on my old XFX card.

Overall...unless anything crazy happens...I'm extremely happy. The latest drivers work well and this card is super stable. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

This card is just great. Easy overclocks (mine is at a modest 945/1475-same as a stock 7970) with Catalyst, cool temps and low noise (never hear it since the BIOS update). I punish this thing and out of habit I constantly monitor temps. It has never risen above 61C and while gaming usually sits around 58C. I mostly Play SWTOR which is not a super demanding game usually, but I am running 5760x1080 eyefinity plus a fourth 1920x1200 monitor with the game settings maxed out. That is a heck of a lot of pixels for just one card and I have seen my fps dip into the teens a few times making the game very choppy occasionally. So when the price dropped recently I did not hesitate to pick up another. So to recap; its powerful, easy to tweak, quiet and now more reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this card to anyone with a multiple monitor gaming setup.

...and it looks cool too ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars XFX AMD Radeon HD7950 Black Edition Grafikkarte (PCI-e, 3GB GDDR5 Speicher, DVI, HDMI, 2x mini Display-Port, 1 GPU)
Reviewed in Germany on November 22, 2012
    Die Karte ersetzt bei mir eine ASUS HD 6950 DC II.( System. I7 960 @ 3,8 GHz/ Sockel 1366 , 12GB Ram, 1,5 TB / 7200 Samsung HDD )

Alles in allem klare Kaufempfehlung !

I bought this card as an upgrade to my 8800 GT, I'd researched graphics cards in this price range and due to the 7950's exceptional overclocking ability I'd selected this XFX model which comes pre-overclocked. This card runs all of my current games on MAX/ULTRA (40fps in BF3) and I'm hoping for improvements from further overclocking and driver improvements.
