Product Description
Sit on the edge of your seat and enjoy master storyteller Ray Bradbury's classic adventure of four youths who try to save the spirit of their friend Kip from the ghosts of Halloween past. The four encounter a mysterious character, Moundshroud who takes them on a magical journey that sweeps them back as far as 4,000 years and touches down in exotic places all over the world like Egypt, England, France and Mexico. Along the way they discover the magic and meaning of Halloween - and friendship. This enchanting adventure features the voice talents of Leonard Nimoy as Moundshroud and the animation wizardry of Hanna-Barbera. It's a story as timeless as Halloween itself - a bubbling cauldron of thrills and suspense that will stir the imagination of the entire family. Bradbury's popular story is destined to become a perennial Halloween favorite.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2025I love showing this my children each Halloween it really brings back memories from my childhood.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024I remember watching this on TV when my children were young and we all loved it. I’m so glad I found it on DVD so my grandchildren can enjoy it as well. Lovely story of friendship and adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2013I was lucky enough to purchase a copy of OCTOBER DREAMS: A CELEBRATION OF HALLOWEEN ten years ago (also available on Amazon). In it, one of the contributors reviewed several Halloween movies, and based on his perceptive recommendation, I hunted down an old VHS copy of HALLOWEEN TREE (of which I had never heard). I am so glad I did.
HT is not some weak, namby-pamby, li'l critters kind of special: it has real death in it, several mummies and cadavers, real witches (in the novella of the same name penned by Mr. Bradbury, he unfortunately perpetuated some false ideas about the Celtic Samhain which he attempts to clean up in the screenplay: he mostly succeeds), and, most importantly, a main character that spends most of the show literally in a state between Life and Death. It has real guts, all the while not losing that innocent quality and nobility young children possess dealing with crises.
Several aspects of the original story have been altered or tightened: instead of the boy Henry-Hank dressed as a witch, we now have a girl named Jenny, and the original eight boys have been pared to a girl and 3 boys. Dramatically, this gives the plot a much tighter feel while possibly increasing appeal to young female viewers. Unfortunately, the children's dialogue could have been more distinct, but that is a minor quibble. The excellent voice-work, with Leonard Nimoy as the Death-like character, Mr. Moundshroud, more than makes up for any dialogue flaws, and the artwork is great- there are a few scenes I would dearly love as pictures to hang on my wall every October!
I was so glad to see Amazon offer a burn-to-order version, which I purchased last year to replace my old worn-out copy- I have had no problems playing it on any of my DVD players or laptops.
What is AMAZING about this piece is that it touches on the very roots of the holidays around the waning year without ever once making it too obvious. It's a four-thousand year journey that feels as modern as tomorrow.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024One of all time favorite movies, teaches and entertains at the same time! A must watch every year.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2024The Halloween Tree is likely one of the all-time best classics, from the original children's book by Ray Bradbury. It's an excellent show with a great lesson about caring about your friends, making sacrifices, and learning about the origins of Halloween.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2012I just received "The Halloween Tree" movie in the mail. I am watching it as I type this. I was a little worried ordering this because it came from Media Asia, but nothing to worry about. It is in English. It is a little grainy, kinda looks like something out of the 80's, recorded off TV and put on DVD, but I can live with it. It works on my DVD player, which is a Vizio.
I paid a high price for it. Almost $30.00, but again, I wanted this movie in DVD.
This is a great movie for the kids on Halloween, I am very happy with my order and if you want this movie, get it. It may be a while before it comes out on DVD here in America.
If it would come out on Blue Ray here in America, I would probably buy the newer copy, but again, who knows when that will happen. Maybe never.
Happy with order, love the cover of movie case and DVD.
Just looking for a higher quality when it does come available.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Halloween Classic
An absolute classic for Halloween, this is a wonderfully strange and spooky animated film, perfect for children and adults alike. I used to love watching this with my daughter on TV but sadly it is not shown anymore, hence, I decided to try and find the dvd, which is apparently only available to order from the USA. I was given the 15 Nov as the expected delivery date, but the guys in the States must have pulled out all the stops because the dvd arrived in the post on October 31st - Halloween! So thanks guys, if you’re reading this, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this marvellous movie again and on Halloween night too. Perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolle Halloween Unterhaltung.
