Bi-amped Bass Sounds with a Single Amp

Add a massive sound to your bass rig with the Orange OB1-300 bass amplifier head. Orange took the popular bi-amp system, using both bass and guitar amps for a wide range of tone and cool overdrive tones, and shoehorned it into a single 2U, rackmountable unit. The OB1-300 sports a 3-band Baxandall EQ so you can dial in the perfect low-end tone. Gain and blend controls let you add overdrive to your sound and mix it with your original signal. Create a monstrous wall of bass tone with the Orange OB1-300 bass amplifier head.

Orange OB1-300 Bass Amplifier Head at a Glance:
  • Bi-amped flexibility in a single channel amp
  • Create the perfect mix of clean and dirty

Bi-amped flexibility in a single channel amp

Bass players have been using bass amps and guitar amps together to create huge sounds for years. The bass amp keeps the lows fat and clean while the guitar amp adds grit and extra harmonic content to the top of the signal. The bi-amp rig is cool, but can be a pain to haul and set up at the gig. The Orange OB1-300 gives you all the sound and flexibility of this rig in a single unit. The all-analog signal path of the OB1-300 starts by sending your bass signal down two separate paths. One goes to a powerful 3-band Baxandall EQ for detailed tone sculpting and the other goes to a blendable gain circuit.

Create the perfect mix of clean and dirty

The Orange OB1-300's gain circuit adds up to two distortion stages to only the upper harmonics of your sound. A built-in blend control lets you combine the gain and clean signals together to create a huge sound. No matter how much of the gain signal you add in, the low end will remain fat, bold, and undistorted. The Orange OB1-300 bass amplifier head is a bass player's dream come true.

Ready for stage and studio

This rackmountable bass amplifier head is ready for both stage and studio. The OB1-300 boasts a line out and a balanced DI out - a favorite among Sweetwater's bass players - for hooking up to mixers, recorders, and more. A front panel active/passive switch lets you use your favorite bass without any issue. The flexibility of the Orange OB1-300 ensures that you can use it at any gig, rehearsal, or studio date.

Orange OB1-300 Bass Amplifier Head Features at a Glance:
  • A single channel bass head that acts like a bi-amped rig

Very Nice Amplifier. Bi-Amp feature is great

I wanted to replace my backup amplifier, an Orange Terror Bass 500. I did some research and settled on the OB1-300 to do the job. I was very interested in the bi-amp feature and LOVE the tone of my Orange Little Bass Thing, so I naturally wanted to stay in the Orange Solid State family. So lets start with the clean channel. Just like the LBT it provides a clean, punchy tone. I have run it through both an Ampeg SVT410 and Orange OBC410. Sounds great. The big feature of the OB1 is the bi-amp circuitry that allows the signal to be split so that you get both an overdriven tone and a clean tone at the same time. This feature is controlled using gain and blend knobs located on the right hand side. This is where this unit shines. Cranking the blend and zeroing the gain takes that clean signal and dirties it up a bit. Then as you increase the gain you get that tone splitting, and to my surprise, the distinction in very clear. If I needed to bi amp in the past, I used to use the Ric-O-Sound stereo jack on my 4003 into a splitter, into two amp heads. I would use the 410 for the Overdriven sound and the 115 for the clean bass sound. With the OB1 I can use any of my basses. So, the big question that most people ask...do I need the 300 or 500? I find the 300 has PLENTY of overhead. I play clubs and small halls.

The Force is strong with this one

Orange got the circuitry right with this one. It's an amazing little bugger! It does a great clean sound , deep and full , great mids ( with some EQ'n) , spark-i-ly highs , it can get barky and it can also do smooth. This thing has enough punch to impress even Mike Tyson. It can do that chunky , chingy punk sound very well , but what it does best is get mean . really mean ! The shades of overdrive and distortion are nice enough to give a good list of tube amps a run for their money.
I bought this as a practice spot amp / spare to my Ampeg SVT 2Pro , but this amp became my#1.
I am amazed at what Orange did with this SS power amp. I actually prefer this line compared to the AD200B I briefly had. This amp sounds good as you crank it , it stays tight and focused. Where as the AD200 would get loose and lose some bottom end, becoming mushy. The EQ becomes more sensative as you increase volume, making the midrange more adjustable. This amp seemed to have a stronger mid range compared to the AD200b , but not as much of a range as my SVT.
And the overdrive gets down right mean at loud levels! It doesn't have the thickness that the AD200b has , but it seems to be quicker and have more attack , which made the AD200 sound kind of flabby , or to have a slower response. ( also makes my SVT sound a bit flabby)
This is my #1 because switching to this amp shaved 60 lbs off my rack. ( yes 60 lbs !!! Not a typo!) And looks cooler doing it.
I love my Ampeg SVT , and it will always hold a place in my lineup, but this guy right here has the Punch and Crunch I've always wanted.
It's got about 85% tube tone , & 90% of the feel , and for that I gave it a 4.5., compared to an SVT.
It's not as defined, warm and thick, or harmonically rich as a tube amp , but the weight difference + tone was enough to satisfy me.
Bravo Orange , the Force is strong with this one.
Music background: Mostly pop punk and funk. Rock and Dance stuff too
