Classic Style with a Modern Twist

The classic Portaflex cabinet is back with a modern twist. The Ampeg PF210HE Portaflex bass cab is the size of the original B15, but has upgraded components. Two 10" Eminence speakers and a defeatable 1" tweeter provide a classic big, bottom-end tone that Ampeg is known for. The top comes off so that you can attach any of the new Portaflex series bass heads to it in true flip-top style. Adding the head makes this a great all-in-one combo that protects the electronics between gigs. Bring a classic look and sound to your bass rig with the Ampeg PF210HE Portaflex bass cab.

Can't go wrong with a classic

(Review written within 1 month of ownership) For reference, I power this cab with a Hartke LX5500. This little cab has been something else since day 1. I purchased the 2 x 10 speaker config after listening to some videos and having played a 2 x 10 config before, and I can confidently say that it's been one of my best purchases. The tolex and grill design is very eye catching to the point that I keep it out of storage as furniture when not in use. The detachable lid is a great touch for the smaller head as the handle would get in the way otherwise, plus there's a lot of space inside to store cables and other things I need when gigging. The speakers have a really punchy low mid and handle the EQ I use with ease. The tweeter has nice usable frequency for slap techniques though I turn it off completely for the style of music I play as the 2 x 10s have more than enough high frequency handling for my tastes. This little thing can shake up the entire house if I really pump up the volume and there's no flubbiness or cone rattle. I also tried recording with my setup and the results were phenomenal. It's hard to find something negative to say about this lil' thing to be honest. Maybe the 48 lbs. could be something of a gripe, but it comes with some pretty sturdy casters so you can roll it around. All in all, this little cab is amazing. If I ever need it, I'd buy the 1 x 15 speaker config as an extension speaker for additional low end.

10 years on it's still my favorite

I am an old-school bass tone kind of guy. I want a huge tube amp and I want to crank it hard. But an 8x10 is completely ludicrous in this day and age, unless you're in like, Sunn O)))) or Boris or something. This cabinet gets nearly the same tone as an 8x10 which means that it works alongside a tube amp to get a huge punchy tone, but with 1/4 of the volume, making it manageable for actual gigs. It's not crazy heavy and the casters are decent, although I installed new ones after about 9 years with it. I turn off the tweeter because I think tweeters are gross, but it's there if you want that.

A mic in front of it is fantastic for recording too, basses are nearly mixed right away.

It may not be the perfect sound for everyone, but it has been the perfect sound for me.

Amazing

Awesome combo amp. Punchy and plenty of bottom end. I recently played at a small outdoor gig and it was more than adequate. Noah at Sweetwater was great when I ordered it, and it came promptly and in perfect condition, everything was packed with care. Highly recommend this amp.

8x10 sound in a reasonable size / volume rig

I use this with a Mesa Buster tube amp and it rips. It's never not been loud enough, and combined with the all tube amp low bloom it's got the perfect tone. Sealed cabs give a more useable bass tone - it's not earth rattling but it sits in the mix the way it should. It's quite responsive to EQ as well. I've recorded it a number of times too and it has a great vintage sound. Super light too!
