Imagine spending your birthday at the museum! Join Mason and his friends on their scavenger hunt through all the exhibits that make any natural history museum so special. The perfect birthday gift for museum lovers and adventure-seekers alike!

Mason couldn't wait to celebrate his birthday with a sleepover at the museum of natural history--his favorite place to visit.

Armed with headlamps for the dark hallways, a map, and a list of clues, Mason and his two best friends take off on a scavenger hunt through each hall of the museum. But they aren't just trying to solve the clues. They're scouting for the best place to spend the night.

Sleeping next to a T. rex in the Hall of Dinosaurs felt too scary. And sleeping with the monarch butterflies would probably tickle. This decision isn't as easy as Mason thought it would be....

Wherever they end up, the museum at night is the best place for a birthday adventure!

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 1–4—Mason is celebrating his birthday with his best friends Zoe and Will at the Natural History Museum. Their tour guide has created a series of riddles and, if the group solves them all, Mason will be allowed to pick out where they will sleep during their overnight stay. As the adventurous trio traverse the museum answering riddles and exploring each exhibit, Mason tries to figure out which exhibit would make the coolest spot for a sleepover. LeFrak's delightful tale will inspire children to visit museums and to explore new concepts on their own. The plot is simple and fun as readers try to guess the answers to the riddles and guess via hidden clues which exhibit Mason will eventually choose. There is some higher-level vocabulary, but it is easily understandable through the illustrations. Bucs has created some fantastically entertaining spreads highlighting a child's view of museums. Each picture gives details to the story, revealing more about museums and the characters' journey. He has hidden multiple clues as to the final exhibition throughout his drawings and map, and if kids watch the shadows they can see another story unfold as Mason and his friends continue their quest. Overall, this is a whale of a tale to hopefully inspire more museum trips for children and spark some inquisitive minds. VERDICT A good selection to pique children's interest in a scientific field, as well as inspire them to have their own adventures.—Margaret Kennelly, iSchool at Urbana-Champaign, IL

Such a cute picture book about a museum. I adored it.
When I had the chance to take part in the blog tour for this book, I knew I had to. Since it looks all kinds of adorable and fun. Feeling very thankful that I was able to take part in the tour and get an early copy of the book in the mail. I'm so glad I decided to read this book, because it was pretty great. Not perfect, but very adorable. Giving it four stars, as I liked it a whole lot, yet it was also not completely for me. My review will not be very long, since this picture book was so short, but will be sharing all my thoughts about it even so. This book tells the story of Mason and his two best friends. It's his birthday and they are spending it at the museum. They are having an awesome scavenger hunt through a museum, filled with clues to lead them to the correct exhibit. I liked the clues a bunch and liked the story too. It was quick but pretty cute. Mason and his friends seemed adorable. And the illustrations in this story was so stunning. I loved the drawings so much. They were done well. Not too much writing in this book, but that was done well too. I enjoyed it. There is not that much to say about this book. It was short, yet good too. I wouldn't have minded if it had been longer as well. It's a small adventure book filled with great things inside of a museum. I really liked learning about the different exhibits there. I wanted there to be a bit more of all of it, but still. This story was fast and cute. I liked that the children were not alone in this museum, that a guide was with them, though not always in the pictures. It made it feel safer and more real too. Mostly enjoyed this book a lot. I must admit to having never visited a museum before. As I live in a smallish town and our museum is not very big and it is mostly about the history of our town. I must go one day, though. Because I do not know much about museums, I did not know it was possible to have a sleepover at some. Which happens in this book, and it was all kinds of awesome. At the end of the book it is shared where you can do sleepovers at museums. I loved that the information was included in the book. All kids should get a museum sleepover. And now I'm wishing I could have a sleepover at a museum too. As this book made it sound like so much fun. I'm glad I gave this book a try. Because it was pretty sweet and such a fast and fun read too. I loved the illustrations so very much, especially the ones of the museum animals. Sleepover at the Museum was a fun and quick read. A treasure hunt through the museum full of clues. I think that many kids will adore this book. Huge thank you to the publisher for letting me read this book early for free. I adored it a bunch. --- This review was first posted on my blog, Carina's Books.

Karen LeFrak has written the most adorable children’s book. The book is very well written for a child and the illustrations are magnificent. I bought the book for a friends grandchildren and the children absolutely adore it. The children live in New YorK City
and it has given them an entirely new perspective on the Miuseum Of Natural History. I have gifted this book to many other children who do not live in New York City and it makes them feel as if they have been to the museum! I love giving books to children as gifts and this by far is THE most popular book I have ever given. I have come to realize that if there is more than one child in the family they each have to have their own book or the fighting over the book ensues! I cannot recommend this book enough and by the way adults enjoy reading it also because it is such a beautiful book.

Princess Sophia is the perfect age for Sleepover at the Museum and while Prince Clayton falls below the targeted age range even he got excited over the cover. Both children have a slight obsession with dinosaurs.

Mason and his two best friends are celebrating his birthday with a sleepover at the natural history museum. I will be the first to admit, I was a tad jealous. I’ve always wanted to sleep at the museum or library! Mr. Caffeinated and I love museums and made it a point to take our children to them often. We even mapped them out when taking vacations. So it was exciting sharing this story with the Royals who already get excited by the local children’s museum.

This was such a fun story. Mason and his friends have to go on a scavenger hunt. If they solve all the clues Mason can choose the hall they will sleep in. This offered an exciting way to explore the museum and learn. Princess Sophia who will be four this month loved hunting for clues, identify things she recognized in the photos and asked a gazillion questions about things the book revealed. I adore when this happens. Prince Clayton who is only two got excited over the images, particularly the dinosaurs and ocean life.

David Bucs did a stellar job with the illustrations and made the museum come to life at night.
