You say that this Molcajete is carved from a single piece of Basalt . Have you yourself verified that it is indeed Basalt? or we must rely on some undisclosed "vendor"?

Yes, this item is verified as made of Basalt Rock. The manufacturing process involves volcanic stone being extracted manually from the quarry. Hand carving the piece, where the artisans then use tools to roughen the stone. After obtaining the shape, it is polished and ready to be stored.

Is it safe to clean this molcajete with soap as there seems to be one school of thought that one should not use soap on basalt rock as some soap may seep into and be left behind in the tiny crevices of the porous rock? Please clarify.

USE: Season mortar before first use: grind raw rice inside bowl until rice turns grey; empty and repeat until rice no longer turns grey; rinse with water and scrub with brush. Always place molcajete on top of cloth to avoid scratching surface of table or countertop. Avoid drastic changes in temperature. CARE: Hand-wash with running water, dish soap and brush. Dry thoroughly.

Just want to double check as one of the comments suggests otherwise. This Molcajete is chisled from a piece of basalt rock. It's 100% basalt. No concrete or other fillers/binders used to make it, correct?

Note they have not themselves verified it. They say their "vendor" "confirms". Meaning they simply order these from people who claim it is basalt but they actually do no say in any shape or form they know it is.

Friends came over for dinner and one person made his famous guacamole in my molcajete. The next day I realized the pestle is missing. I’m afraid it may have been thrown out at clean up time. Is it possible to purchase just the pestle?

how much guacamole can you make with the 8" size? How many avocados will fit in the 8" size? How many servings will the 8 yield? I'm torn between the large 10 inch size and the 8 inch size.

However, using six avocados may result in some squeeze out during mashing, as mentioned in a previous review. For serving yield, one avocado typically yields about 1 to 1.5 cups of guacamole. You can expect to get approximately 4 to 9 cups of guacamole with four to six avocados. The decision between the two sizes ultimately depends on your preferences and needs. The molcajete does not hold water. Water drains through the molcajete onto the counter is that normal ? Not sure I’m supposed to make salsas if liquid drains through it.
