About

SPEEDY ORTIZ IN CONCERT:

Sounding like a super group comprised of Sonic Youth, Pavement, and Veruca Salt members, Speedy Ortiz draws from alternative rock's past while pointing towards its future. The intricate guitar interplay between Devin McKnight and frontwoman Sadie Dupuis is every bit as impressive as the famous guitar duos in the bands mentioned above, and every bit as raucous and fun. Combining raw sonic textures with tight composition, Speedy Ortiz treats fans at their live shows to equal doses of brain and brawn. Dupuis’ quivering vibrato and sing-song melodies combined with the band’s all-out performances ensure that Speedy Ortiz songs stay with ticket buyers long after the concert is over.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Speedy Ortiz was born out of Sadie Dupuis’ job as summer camp instructor, where she would teach children how to write songs. Using the same novel songwriting techniques that she suggested for the children she began recording her own material in 2011. Her early demos would eventually turn into the band's debut album The Death of Speed Ortiz, which was released independently the same year. She put together a full band for her live performances, and soon Speedy Ortiz was opening for some of their biggest inspirations, including The Breeders, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, and Ex Hex. 2013 saw the release of Major Arcana, which was listed as one of the year’s best albums by both Pitchfork and Stereogum. In 2015 the band released their third album Foil Deer, which they'll support on a highly anticipated headlining tour.

Awesome set. The opening acts were great too though I wish they had put Krill on later.
