Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Great Power (Amazing Spider-Man (1963-1998)) Kindle & comiXology
In 1962, in the pages of a comic book slated for cancellation, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko gave birth to one of the most enduring icons in American popular culture: the Amazing Spider-Man! Turning the concept of a super hero on its head, they imbued the young, guilt-ridden Peter Parker with the fantastic powers of an arachnid and the fantastic pressures of an everyday teenager. The combination was pure magic. Now, you can leap into Spider-Man's web-slinging world from the very beginning, including the tragic origin that started it all; the first appearances of the Daily Bugle and J. Jonah Jameson; and the debut of classic villains including the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, the Sandman, the Vulture and Electro!

About the author

Stan Lee is a man who needs no introduction. Nevertheless: Having begun his career with wartime Timely Comics and staying the course throughout the Atlas era, Stan the Man made comic-book history with Fantastic Four #1, harbinger of a bold new perspective in story writing that endures to this day. With some of the industry’s greatest artists, he introduced hero after hero in Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men and more — forming a shared universe for rival publishers to measure themselves against. After an almost literal lifetime of writing and editing, Lee entered new entertainment fields and earned Marvel one opportunity after another. He remains one of Marvel’s best-known public representatives.
-----------------

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024It's just as expected to be honest. The pages are nice and crisp, the colors are sharp as well. Overall a good purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2024Bought it for my brother, perfect, exactly as pictured.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2022It’s easy to dismiss these early foundational stories as “not sophisticated” or “too childish” for today’s audiences. Reading this series for the first time, I’m struck at how fresh and exciting it is even by today’s standards. The pacing , storytelling, and creativity dwarfs the dreck coming out of the Big Two today. A must read!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2022It doesn’t get much better than this! Been too long since I last reread the beginning of the Spider-Man saga, I’d almost forgotten all the “amazing” elements that were included right from the start. The dramatic figures by Ditko. The colorful prose from Lee. The pathos of Peter Parker. The engaging supporting characters. And the debut of one of the best rogues gallery in comics! It’s all here. If this review sounds like one of Marvel’s boastful blurbs, it’s because this book actually lives up to the hype. ‘Nuff said!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2015There is no need to review the stories of this period here. They have been reprinted elsewhere in Marvel Essentials and Masterworks. Nevertheless, this collection is way groovier than its antecedent, Marvel Essentials. It gives you almost the same amount of issues for a fair price and in color. The table of contents is much better than in the Essentials, and it also shows some original Steve Ditko illustrations, and info on the writers and illustrators (there is one story illustrated by Jack Kirby here). A difference between this series and the Masterworks is that very often you get about 10 issues per volume and you have to wait a long time before getting issues that are far ahead. In this collection, Marvel has put out more than one volume per comic (in most instances) which means you get Spidey's adventures from the seventies and perhaps eighties through this collection. The way Marvel is marketing this collection is a little unorthodox, but it's cool. Anyways, if you are a Spidey fan and you can't get enough of the web slinger, this is a great purchase. In my opinion, this collection is even better than previous ones.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2023I am not very knowledgeable about comics but I was looking for a collection of the original Spider-Man comics to read with my son. This collection has been great so far. Started with the Amazing Fantasy issue and went on from there. Paperback quality has been great. Exactly what I was expecting.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025Firstly these 17 issues makeup the foundational joy that will and has today become The Spider-man. I prefer these to the masterworks books simply for having more to them. I cannot express the wonder at having them permanently accessible at my fingertips through a phone after spending my jr high through high school lifetime chasing after them even in reprint just so that I could have Read these now canonical books.
If you are a spider-fan that’s never read these I assure you they makeup their cost in permanence and the final b&w variant covers towards the end. As a Ditko fan it’s truly heartwarming to see so much of his original presentations now available.

5.0 out of 5 stars With 'Great Power' Comes The Start Of A Great Epic Collection
Spider-Man classic original issues and the introductions of iconic Spider-Man villains. The Epic Collection is brilliantly produced and works great on the Kindle app. I find it amazing how early depictions of Peter Parker are not only puny, but borderline ugly. As each issue goes on Parker get more and more handsome. Already, in these early issues, we see the 'real world' problems that accompany Parker's and Spider-Man's life and journey as a superhero. Excelsior!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice vintage collection
Nice book. Easy to handle for my 9 year old son who is a big spidey fan. He absolutely loved it and didn't put it down till he finished reading the entire book. The artwork is ok considering the vintage period. As it is I am not a great fan of the modern graphic artwork. The printing is very good and the colours impressive.
The only issue was the packing. Since this is a paperback it should have been packed accordingly. The book arrived in a slightly twisted condition at the bottom.
