Best running app for Apple Watch

I think I’ve tried all of the running apps available for Apple Watch out there and this is definitely the best. One of the major features for me is the ability to use the phone GPS (which in my testing is still more accurate than the GPS in my AW2), but I can also use the Watch GPS stand alone if I need to. Then there are the customisable Watch fields and audio cues as well as the ability to record the weather and other data and post all of this to various apps like Strava and Nike+. It all works great and is very accurate and consistent.

Ideally needs a few extra things like a complication from the Watch and the ability to use Watch held music so it can be truly stand alone but these are minor.

Great without a watch

Dabbling in HR training, but didn’t want to shell out for another gadget. Managed to use my iPhone 12 mini with a Polar H9 Hr strap and this app and I love it. Just have to run with earphones in and it’ll notify me when I stray out of my target zone(politely interrupting whatever I might already be listening to) so very good for pacing. Also very good customisation possible if you want to setup specific training targets, distance / hr / time and your specific Hr zones. Used for x7 runs and it’s working great, no bugs or issues. This is for the basic version so I consider it good value for ~£5

Unreliable Interval Notifications

I’ve used this app for a few months mainly for running and some cycling. I find it works fine if the intervals are for longer periods of time. For shorter intervals (i.e. 30 seconds with 30 seconds recovery) the watch will sometimes notify you when the interval is finished and other times it won’t. This really affects your workout if you don’t want to be staring at your watch the entire time and calculating time between intervals. Major flaw the more technical my runs have got. If you plan on having a coach via TrainingPeaks with tailored workouts this won’t work for you in the long run. I’ve just sadly had to buy a Garmin and resign my Apple Watch due to this as I’ve had enough. I want to focus on my runs, not whether this app is going to work or not.
