I've stayed mostly away from the Ultimate side of the Marvel Universe since Ultimatum, so I missed out on... well, a LOT. Fortunately, this is an ideal way of reading the origin and adventures of Miles Morales. And it's pretty good stuff all around.

The story moves at a slow pace but it's PACKED with important events in the fledgling career of the brand new Spider-Man. Events from the previous Spider-Man's series are touched upon since there are lots of little loose ends left over to play with. Even better, moments from the first series (specifically, the origin story) are reflected and twisted in interesting ways. Miles' journey to picking up the mantle of Spider-Man is both similar and different than Peter Parker's and that kind of thing is FASCINATING.

But, like I said, the whole origin takes it's time to tell. In fact, even after the first twelve issues, Miles hasn't got some key elements of his gear. Again, there's a lot happening, it's just taking it's time to feel those moments out. It's decompression done as well as possible. If that's a deal breaker for you, then consider yourself warned.

The last five issues are the crossover between the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man and the Regular Marvel Universe Spider-Man. As such, Miles takes a back seat to Peter exploring this similar universe with some KEY DIFFERENCES. That doesn't mean that Miles doesn't get some nice moments throughout but he's definitely sharing the stage. It's a great story and I'm happy it's included here but it puts on "hold" things that are happening in the Ultimate Spider-Man book (not REALLY since the Ultimate Spider-Man book didn't go on hiatus or anything while this was published but, when reading it like THIS a lot of things are just WAITING for Ultimate Spider-Man #13).

As far as book quality goes, this is a pretty solid trade paperback. The pages feel like quality (I was worried they would be thin and rippable considering the price but they're fine). You get seventeen issues with cover and variant cover images. No forward or design sketches... which is too bad. I love those things. But for the price, this is definitely the way to read these books.

Long story, short: this is a great book featuring a great new character and cast. And the costume is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I didn’t want to stop reading. The connection between Miles Morales and his uncle is so compelling. Love how quick paced it is without feeling rushed. The characters shine through all of this as everyone has a distinct personality that makes for easy fun reading. Great for kids and adults alike.

I have a hard time finding collections of origin stories that are recent enough to not seem dated but this is one of the best. I usually spread out my reading so I can take it all in over the course of a month (especially with collections like this) but I read it all in a day. Couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend.

I've always enjoyed Miles Morales, but I never got around to reading his first appearance. This was a really fun read with great writing and art. If you enjoyed the Spider-Verse movie or other Miles Morales comics written by Bendis, you'll really love this book.

So thankful that my amazon library can be read on the comixology app! This story is fantastic, the art and threads the writers spin keep me tapping and tapping from panel to panel. Well worth the relatively low entry price for digitial.

My son is a reluctant reader and after trying every book to capture his interest I decided to try comics. He finished this book in 2 days, the illustration is amazing and the story line really engaged him. As soon as he finished I ordered him book 2. Not cheap but I will pay anything to get him to have a love of reading. My luck my son is not cheap!!!

Although I’m a fan of comics & graphic novels (Marvel, in particular), I’m not a big Spider-Man fan. However, I enjoyed this book, seeing the Miles Morales series as a wonderful take on a classic character.
