Nils Frahm On Tour

German pianist and composer Nils Frahm combines styles of classical pianists and contemporary composers to create gorgeous and soothing piano and ambient music with an unconventional approach. The prolific composer focuses as much on silence and superfluous sounds in his music such as a piano pedal creaking or recording static as he does notes and melodies, which gives a unique flare and an immediacy to everything he does.

In addition to his solo work, Frahm has released collaborations with renowned performers including Ólafur Arnalds, F. S. Blumm, Anne Müller, and Woodkid. In 2021, Frahm released a full-length album, Old Friends New Friends, featuring 80 minutes of archival solo piano works that didn't make it onto the composer's previous albums. Broad and ambitious in scope, he explores ambient minimalism and borrows classical tenets to create unique and beautiful compositions.

Known for sweeping audiences away no matter what mood they're in, Frahm's live performances are not to be missed.

Nils Frahm Live in Concert

Nils Frahm began learning piano at an early age, mastering the instrument and taking music lessons throughout his childhood. The son of renowned art and nature photographer Klaus Frahm, Nils Frahm grew up near Hamburg, Germany, learning the styles of both classical and contemporary composers. He was also fascinated by mixing boards and examining the quality of recorded sound.

Now he works as an accomplished performer, composer and producer based out of the studio he built at Funkhaus, the renowned concert and events venue in Berlin.

His first physical album release, Streichelfisch, came out in 2005 and he has been incredibly prolific ever since. Interestingly, his 2022 album, Music for Animals, is three hours long and is notable because of the absence of piano in favor of ambient soundscapes. The striking album cover features one of his father's famous black-and-white photographs of a hand holding a goldfish in a bag.

Recorded during the height of the pandemic, Frahm said that his inspiration for Music for Animals was "something as mesmerizing as watching a great waterfall or the leaves on a tree in a storm...some people like watching the leaves rustle and the branches move. This record is for them."

Don't miss your chance to get swept away by the understated beauty and emotion of Frahm's compositions on his upcoming Music for Animals tour.

Nils was incredible, audience was not.

by Gene on 5/3/23Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Amazing magical performance compromised by a distracting audience. People kept talking, getting up, coming, going, dropping their drinks, phones, and just constantly making noise and commotion. Someone’s timer went off. Come on! Paramount is not the place for that. Made it hard to get fully immersed in the music, which is a shame because Nils is so damn good live and ought to be enjoyed fully.

    MADMAN AT THE WATERS

by tc on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Opening with a Glass Harp, or playing the Harmonium, Nils led us on a sonic emotional rollercoster of unique audio delight. Moving like a Madman being his 20 or so keyboards and instruments his skill at evoking fluid tonal excitment was felt all night long. A master class in a unique personality and style that leaves you soaring, breathless and enchanted - sometimes all at the same time. Like any form or genre of music, this may not be everyones cuppa, but to those that can relate, this is so fun to watch his lightning antics and be transported by Nils' genius creations.

    Heart and Wonder

by Patrick Avalon on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

There is little that can be said of Nils Frahm that has not been already published. For my own account, witnessing this musical master give his offering was an experience so sublime, technically awesome, and heart filled that I could only be in awe. His virtuosic handling of the language of music is second to none, his presence on stage is humble yet confident, and his wonderful wit has an ease and sincerity that put me in a most receptive state. But most of all, his music took me on such an emotional journey through the inner cosmos of my own being that I am still incorporating what I experienced. If you love music, life is too short to not experience the sonic gifts this man has to offer.

Top 10 shows of all time

by Tommy Bigfinger on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Words can't express how magical Nils Frahm was live. You could hear a pin drop as he set the gorgeous mood with a sonic security blanket. Like a modern-day Chopin/Vivaldi/Liszt! it was truly breath-taking. I've never seen anything like it.

good show / rude crowd / poor training

by Robert on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Nils Frahm was fantastic. the venue was nice. the crowd was rude and the ushers untrained. people were arriving an hour into the show and stumbling around with their phone lights looking for seats. Ushers standing in front of seated patrons while talking to people entering exiting THE ENTIRE SHOW. Two seated next to us arrived 40 minutes late, and kept coming and going, forcing us to stand and make room. close the doors during performance. Train your staff as to where the seats are and to use red / dim lights.

Full of distractions but otherwise good

by Ted on 5/1/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

(Seated show/modern classical piano performance) Really hard to enjoy the first hour because people kept arriving late to their seats, making noise, getting everyone to move, needing the stewards help. Fine if it’s a house music show but really distracting and annoying for a sensitive, gentle classical show. 5 mins late, fine but a s steady stream of people were arriving for over an hour to the mezzanine.
