'Large, stunningly beautiful and filled with pictures of surpassing elegance and detail.'
— The Wall Street Journal.
'It's a museum masquerading as a book. Truly original.'
— People Magazine.
'The text is authoritative and informative, but the real attraction is the artwork. There are glorious spreads of ecosystems, and even the end papers are worth a look. . . This will make a handsome addition to STEM collections and should attract browsers and budding mycologists alike.'
— Booklist (starred review).
'[A] sumptuous illustrated children's atlas that combines chic, muted colors with witty and informative drawings on heavy matte paper that whispers under the fingers. The sort of book you can't help touching, 'Maps' is as likely to engross adults as it is 7- to 10-year-olds. [I]t gives aesthetic pleasure all the way from the table of contents to the flags of the world at book's end.'

—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
Elegantly encapsulating these dizzyingly diverse and ubiquitous wonders, Scott’s photographic illustrations, too, offer astronomical appeal. Complete with an index and sources for suggested reading, this dazzling display is ideal for classroom and coffee-table collections, budding botanists and curious kids, and everywhere—and everyone—in between.
—Booklist (starred review)
A beautifully constructed compendium of plant life from around the world that offers up a visual and informational treat for future botanists and casual browsers alike...The large format, sumptuous artwork, and thoughtful writing put this one a cut above the rest and make this a must-have for any library that can house it.
—School Library Journal
As in companion volume Animalium by Jenny Broom and also illustrated by Scott (2014), the digitally colored images are not drawn to scale but are rendered with as much attention to visual impact as to exact, formal anatomical detail...a big, decorative, eye-filling survey.
—Kirkus Reviews
This title makes a sizable claim to operate as a museum of world plants, and it delivers in a big way...The text is accessible to 3rd grade classrooms (pictures will impress those even younger), yet will still offer interest to secondary grades for botany class or browsing.
—School Library Connection
Containing everything from perennials to bulbs to tropical exotica, this wonderful feast of botanical knowledge is complete with superb cross sections to show how plants work.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2024Every page is drenched in color and filled with knowledge. It was a suggestion from my daughter's 2nd grade homeschool curriculum and has been a really useful supplement to her learning. She loves the pictures, and the specimens the illustrator chose always spark her artistry. The book flows nicely, moving through the plant kingdom in an evolutionary way. The writing is clear and creative. The quality of the book cover, bindings and pages are all exceptional. The pages are sturdy and easy to turn, the cover is thick and well made. It definitely feels like it will withstand the test of 2nd grade fingers and feelings. It covers so many little tidbits that we would have missed or overlooked without this great resource. I would give this book a 10 if I could. You won't regret this purchase, it's worth it!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024A very high quality, beautiful book. Well received present.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2024I bought the kindle version for myself after seeing someone on YouTube using this book as inspiration for natural shapes in their art work. While I unfortunately don’t remember the video artist this book stuck in my head. The kindle version is beautifully presented on my iPad. Thought viewing is better in portrait and I love how you can really zoom in on details. The art in the illustrations are wonderful. I really feel inspired by the illustrations.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2023Amazon needs to put at least some packing around the corners and cover to prevent damage as the book shifts in the box (see pictures of 3 corners damaged). I also just notice the beautiful embossed gold “Welcome to the Museum” “ticket” in the top corner is scratched (see picture). I really wanted this as a beautiful coffee table book. It’s a shame because this could have been prevented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality is great
I am really impressed with the quality of the hardcover, thickness of the paper and print quality.
It would be a good choice if you want to have a general understanding of botony without getting too dense. Each species is shown with beautiful artwork. I am very happy with this purchase. I think anyone interested in nature can get into this book.
