After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.

The medieval Old Centre with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Light District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveller might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.

Old, historic city with lots of canals and waterways.

Old, historic city with lots of canals and waterways. Easiest way around is walking. Lots of historic buildings and museums to see in the central city area. Train from/to airport to central city terminal is inexpensive, and easy to figure out. People are extremely friendly, and most speak English. Many, many people walking around and viewing the central city, especially around central train station and streets nearby. Not easy to find a restroom, and when you do, there's a lineup, and you have to pay to get in - interesting. Credit or debit cards seems to be the best payment methods.

An excellent European destination with world class museums, restaurants, and tourist activities (canal cruise, Keukenhof Gardens at tulip time, rijstaffel dinner, shopping). City seemed safe at night for walking. Cleanliness level is medium. Costs level also medium. Getting around by Uber was very easy. What to avoid: summer crowds, not getting reservations well in advance.

Amsterdam Museums well worth a visit , public transport is great, use the 9292 app to give you details where/ when next tram/ bus or train will be. Van Gogh Museum can ONLY be booked in advance and at least 4 weeks in advance. Well worth a visit. Amsterdam can be a noisy & busy city but a lot to do and safe. Leiden 30 min by train from Amsterdam was a lot more quaint and peaceful with a windmills, museums and great restaurants.

Mine was a business trip - so not much time to enjoy the great cosmopolitan feel of the south city area. Been there many times before - great compact city - lots to do, new and old. 1m people - 750k bicycles so beware - they don't stop! Trams, rail and Uber all good. Would always recommend a trip to Amsterdam!

    A great city to visit!

A great city to visit! People were most helpful and friendly, especially as I was over 80 and a solo traveller! It was my first visit to Amsterdam and I felt very comfortable there. I visited some great sights like Keukenhof, Anne Frank House, Ruiksmuseum, Jewish Museum and Synagogue, Flowermarket(to buy cheap tulip bulbs), all very interesting ! of course also a canal tour which was a bit spoilt by rainy weather. Certainly like to go back sometime as Van Gogh Museum you have to book at least 6 weeks in advance!

I loved the architecture and the canals, Amsterdam is a very attractive city. Very easy to get around with a great tram system, also lots of it is easily accessed by walking, and you get the atmosphere of the different areas this way. There is plenty to do and see, but probably one of my favourite things was soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine beside a pretty canal. The people are very friendly and overall the city has a relaxed, chilled feel.

Not too far from the city centre, bus stop is beside the hotel and 3 bus stops to Amsterdam Central Station. Pass for transport for 3 days we bought at the reception - very handy. Personal at the reception are very informative and attentive. Rooms are modern and the Hotel itself too. At evening we enjoyed panoramic view of canal from the bar which locates on the 8th floor and spa is fantastic. One more plus of the location - quite area. Definitely would recommend! P. S. Mattresses, pillows are super comfortable! We slept as babies))

Hotel Alexander is situated in a quiet street just off the city center of Amsterdam, so it’s great for a peaceful night of sleep away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything is walkable in 15-20 minutes and there are tons of great food and shopping options close by. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, and so is the lobby/lounge which is absolutely stunning. Free tea and coffee all day, and every staff member was very warm and helpful. This is an exceptional property (villa) with an incredibly friendly and professional young staff. The attached restaurant and bar are a great added benefit as well. As a bonus there is a small (free) parking lot adjacent to the villa. This is by far the best value and quality of accommodations you will find in Amsterdam.......and it's only a short 1.5 mile walk to the city center. We took inexpensive Uber rides or walked so we could fully enjoy the pubs and coffee shops of Amsterdam!

Great value for money. Rooms were larger than any other hotel I had previously stayed at in Amsterdam. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern, quiet and with a great view of the Singel canal. Fantastic location for loads of key places. Walking times from the hotel to city centre / dam square (10 minutes), museums (20 minutes), Rembrandtplein (5), vondel park (20) Jordaan - 9 streets (10) Anne Frank (15) Tram 24 goes from Centraal station and stops outside the hotel.

The location north of central Amsterdam was great as it was quieter than in the city centre and yet easy to reach with a ferry from the central station which ran 24/7. The breakfast was good, comfortable beds, nice sized rooms, good pubs/restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. Good internet, breakfast was also good. Parking is available at the hotel (20 euros per night) or outside on the street with a parking ticket which worked out cheaper than the hotel parking.

Dont go expecting a 5 star hotel, it is what it is, a decent budget hotel.. The location is great and the rooms are tidy. I go to Amsterdam regularly for cheap break for a night or 2 with a few pals and we generally stay in the budget hotels, this is one of the best budget hotels in the main area. I must say for the price this is excellent value for money. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't take my wife to this hotel but its ideal for a cheap break on a budget.
