The full movie, first released on Nov. 23, 1960, is now available on DVD from Amazon.com. Elvis served with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany during 1958-60 (1st Bn, 32nd Armor, Friedberg). After he got out of the Army on March 1, 1960, with the rank of Sgt. E-5, he was instantly ushered into this Paramount movie about an Oklahoma singer who (surprise) gets out of the Army and wants to open a night club. Making a potentially lucrative bet that he can seduce a cabaret singer (Juliet Prowse), Elvis instead falls in love with her. In the movie, he is refurbished from his rockabilly roots into a slicker model for early-'60s pop. The songs include the title track "GI Blues", plus "It's Not Good Enough for You," "Tonight Is So Right for Love," and "Wooden Heart." The movie was a box-office hit, ranked #3 in worldwide gross sales for the period Dec., 1960, to May, 1961.
