About

BEAR HANDS IN CONCERT:

Brooklyn-based indie punk outfit Bear Hands have been clawing their way to the
top ever since the release of their 2014 LP Distraction. Whether they're
ripping through favorites like "Giants" or treating fans to earlier tracks from
their 2010 EP What A Drag, Bear Hands' gritty sound and high-energy stage
presence make for a live experience that's just as electrifying as their
recordings. On their latest tour the four-piece will deliver a series of
power-packed shows as both an opener for Cage the Elephant and a headlining act
on their own highly anticipated dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by two Wesleyan University students in 2006, Bear Hands got their start
in the local hardcore punk scene, penning songs and playing gigs throughout the
New York area. The band quickly became well known among the NYC community,
generating significant buzz with their breakout EP Golden. Touring with several
big-time indie rock acts including MGMT, Passion Pit, and Vampire Weekend, Bear
Hands earned acclaim as a celebrated live act and gained a considerable cult
following along the way. With the release of 2014's Distraction came their
breakout track "Giants", which garnered major rotation on national radio and
put Bear Hands on the bill at a number of high-profile festivals. Back on the
road the band will have concertgoers dancing all night on a string of highly
anticipated tour dates.

    Energy and emotion

by Justin P. on 6/3/19The Hollow - Albany

The hollow is a small intimate venue and Bear Hands were great . Whether you were there for their most popular or some great tracks off their new album they delivered. My two personal favorites were Mr. Radioactive and 2AM. On top of catalog coverage their styles can vary from entrancing to fury depending upon the song and I personally appreciate when a group displays variance throughout a live performance. All together I had a great time and enjoyed the entire show start to finish.

by Madalaupdraw on 10/26/16A and R Music Bar - Columbus

I saw the band at a simple venue, A&R bar in Columbus....they were a great band to drink to, hang out with friends and stand up and dance...any mode would feel comfortable. Cool band. They play their popular songs like you enjoy them on the radio.... recommended!

    Pretty boring

by WoodjaBlowmee on 10/9/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

Not worth it. I was hoping for more. CHAPPO was good, but the following opening band blew nuts.

BEAR HANDS ARE ON THE RISE!

    by ChefMichael57 on 8/2/14STARLAND BALLROOM - SAYERVILLE

My first exposure to BEAR HANDS came when I heard their sophomore full length album DISTRACTION back in Feb 2014. I really enjoyed their work and put them on my must see live list. My preferable scenario is seeing these up and comers in small 250cap venues but it's not unusual to see talented newbies landing a tour with nationally recognized acts like opening for CAGE THE ELEPHANT as was the case here. If I have to go to a big club (2000-3000) then the STARLAND BALLROOM is my first choice. Besides being a great venue it's also located outside the major cities of NYC and Philly. The parking is stress free- the sound is awesome and I could go on and on! BREAR HANDS put on a great show! It's not easy being the openers- the vast majority of the crowd is there to see CAGE THE ELEPHANT plus an abbreviated set list etc etc But BEAR HANDS with DYLAN RAU at the helm did a great job. Also meeting DYLAN after the show was a bonus. You can just tell the dude is a good soul! I'm expecting big things from this band going forward. DISTRACTION appears to be their breakout album- solid record!

Great show! The band was great & all of the band members made it a point to mingle with fans before & after the show.......they were very appreciative of having people come support them.

    Fantastic energy and stage presence!

by Anonymous on 7/14/14The Basement - Columbus

This band is a riot to see live. They play to the audience well while performing their hits and up and coming songs with emotion and energy. As their music catalog continues to grow, seeing this band live will continue to be more and more fun! Highly recommend seeing them!

    Great band, poor performance

by TheMan777 on 4/13/14Rickshaw stop - San Fran

I went to this show just to see Bear Hands even though they weren't the headliner. I know they aren't very popular yet, but I was excited to see a lot of people were there just for them. When they came on the whole crowd was in to them. They did not seem like they wanted to be there at all though. They all just stood there and the lead singer seemed like he hated the world. His comments were all negative about the venue and show. I can understand that a band can be very tired from touring and maybe be having a bad stay at their current location...but as a new band you gotta put on a good show to make an impact. I was pretty bummed. They still played all their hits and sounded decent so that gave them three stars. Hopefully they will improve by the next time I see them.
