Reviews

Love itDianaThis was exactly what my daughter wanted. It is sturdy and I love the drawer space. We will be getting some other pieces from this set next.5
Great idea but not great qualityTsionI love the space-saving design of this daybed. And the drawers are amazing - very large! I've had the bed in a guest room for about 2 years and has been used maybe 10 times. The slats are bowed and broken. I doubt it's sturdy enough for daily use, much less for adults.2
Great product, just as expected.OutiGreat product, just as expected. we've had Hemnes furniture before.5
Best IKEA purchaseRavenThis is been one of our favorite IKEA purchases. It was really easy to put together with only one person and is a great multipurpose used furniture. We use this in our office and for our cats bedroom and it has been sturdy for over two years.5
Great for guestsMonaIt is comfortable seat and bed and great when you will have more guests. 5
Excellent product HemaliNice, comfortable 5
LOVE ITGuiselleThe bed frame was exactly as i had expected it to be, super easy to assemble and light weight to move around but still sturdy enough when the mattress was placed. love the color and the drawers were very spacy. Really loved this purchase!5
Hemnes Day BedSarahI love the bed now that it is together. It was challenging to put it together, I wish the directions had included some verbiage rather than just pictures (yes I watched videos too lol). Overall, I got the bed on the friends and family discount and it is perfect for the space we have and the price we paid, happy with my purchase.4
Slide out bed is smaller than main bedMayankThe bed looks good and has a lot of utility. One of the side panels came damaged but Ikea replaced them without any issues, I just had to go pick up from the store. Giving it lower rating because when I inquired in the store about mattress size, the representative said any twin mattress would fit but may sit higher when stacked. I bought two non-ikea mattresses, they both fit perfectly when stacked, even leaving some room on the sides, but when putting them side by side, they are about 4 inches larger then the full bed expanded because the slide out bed is smaller. 3
Bed panels flimsyAnneThe bed frame looksa fine but the bed panels to hold mattresses are so narrow and flimsy made of like softer wood. I am worry it will collapse when someone over 100 lbs sleep on it. Let's see. 4
Real Surprise!MarianneThe two twin mattresses can go VERTICALLY as well as horizontally when the bed is opened. This makes it easy for both people to get in and out of the bed.5
Garbage product - run away JohnMy whole bed fell apart after a little over a year. I’m so annoyed with the closest ikea being 2 hours away.1
Great DAybed!ReneThis bed is amazing! the trundle underneath with drawers is perfect! So much room and still a twin size!! Extra storage is huge under this bed!5
Great extra bedKimberlyWe've have this is our office/guest room for over a year now and love this bed. It's normally kept in a twin configuration with two 6" foam mattresses on top and works as a couch/lounging spot. You could go with thicker mattresses if you want as well. The IKEA 3" foam ones seemed way too thin. When my parents visit we pull it out in the king setting and it's great for two people. We have a thinner topper that fits in the drawers underneath to put on the when it's in a king to minimize the transition between the mattresses. If you had somewhere to store a foam topper it's even better. When it's pulled out, it's easier to sleep two people with the head being against the backboard rather than how they show in the pics so both sides have access to stand up. Would recommend but with better/thicker mattresses than advertised.5
CozyVeronicaIt took me all day to put together but that is how IKEA furniture is. I do want to exchange the recommended mattress and get something softer. it’s too hard for me and pretty thin. The bed looks cute. You can turn it into a large bed. When extended. I love the 3 HUGE drawers because I have so much clothes all over the many.5
5 stars but PollyOk so we got this with 2 ÅGOTNES mattresses to replace our couch and 10000% the right decision. If you are thinking about it, it’s worth it. That being said, I did put this together wrong 3 separate times and it took an entire day. while that isn’t ikea’s fault, I wish there had been some more bits in the instructions to save me from myself (as they sometimes do) cause it’s a pain to take apart. 5
Perfect bed solution!LaurieReally like the way the bed slides out to be a double/queen. Nice to have storage underneath. A little bit of a process to build but not bad. Looks very nice in the room5
First Use broken one wooden supportJatinOn very first use, one of the wooden log support broke. on reporting this issue (defect), part is now being ordered and will ship soon. what i like till date is finishing and look and feel of bed however key is quality and durability which currently i am at question mark... will update this comment and rating post i refix wood support which IKEA support team agreed to deliver at no cost. 2
GreatLeonardoIt's beautiful and met my expectations5
Still perfect after 7 years of heavy useSuryaI bought this in early 2017 because I needed more storage space, and I liked the large drawers underneath. It's my actual bed (I have a normal twin mattress on it and don't use the trundle part) and is occasionally shared with a large dog, so it sees fairly heavy use. I have a few coats and long dresses in my closet, but that space is mainly used for craft storage, so most of my wardrobe has also been folded into the three drawers under the bed, making them *quite* full and heavy. Occasionally I overstuff them and get a bit forceful while opening/closing. This background is necessary to understand why it's so impressive that this frame is still in *perfect* condition, besides a few chips/worn paint. The drawers open and close smoothly, the frame is sturdy and looks good, and the knobs haven't loosened at all. I've moved house once with it too. It's the best furniture investment I've ever made, and completely worth the effort of assembly.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is fibreboard?

Fiberboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fiberboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.

Function solution

Sofa and bed in one

Living in a small space or need an extra bed sometimes? Then a daybed is a smart solution since you get two types of furniture in one - a sofa by day and bed by night. And since some of our daybeds also have drawers, you get a practical place to store anything from bed linens to clothes and toys.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"Function and flexibility are high on the agenda where space is at a premium. That's why I designed HEMNES daybed to fulfill four functions. A single bed, bed for two, sofa and storage drawers solve four of the key needs in every home. The simple lines and white finish make sure it's at home in almost any setting. I've heard people say this is an all-round item of furniture - with room for all the family in the bed for two and the cat in the pull-out drawer! That makes a designer like me feel that I've achieved my aim."
