I purchased a pair of the Clip 2 to use on my backpack when doing training sessions outside with clients.  Needed something portable and rugged.  So far, the Clip 2 has delivered in both sound and toughness.  I'll play "workout" music while also running a boxing a timer, and the Clip 2 delivers.  I also like that you can "daisy chain" 2 of them for a little extra sound.

Sound Quality:

In my opinion, the most important aspect of a speaker is the sound quality. There is no point in purchasing a speaker that sounds terrible, period. The Clip 2 sounds very good. It's relatively small, about 4 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches deep. As to be expected in this configuration, the highs and mids are clear. Vocals, guitars, most synths come through loud, clear, and distinct. Even though small, the bass is clearly audible in the sound profile, though not loud or driving. You will hear the bass, but not feel it in any way.  If you love full, resonant kick drums and dirty bass synths, you may find this speaker a little to "top-heavy" for your liking. 

For inside use, in the shower (fully waterproof) or around the house, this speaker is great. It can get quite loud. If the speaker is a room, it will be audible from any place in that room. For a large gatherings this product may feel underpowered. In those situations, it may be desirable to have bass-heavy speaker that moves a bit more air.

Construction:

The speaker cover is made of a woven cloth and the sides are made of a "soft to the touch" plastic. Buttons for power, volume, bluetooth pairing, and answering calls are located on the side of the speaker. The micro-usb charging port is located on the side of the speaker as well. There is a rubber cover for the charging port to protect this component from water.

The carabiner clip is very clever, both in its shape and integration with the speaker. The equilateral-triangle shape, with a side length of over an inch, is completely sufficient for any strap I have encountered. The clip is smooth and easy to operate and is extremely convenient for hanging in the shower or from a backpack.

The carabiner interfaces with the speaker housing via a silicon joint. This joint allows for rotation in two planes (left and right, forward and back when looking at the front of the speaker). 

Features:

This speaker seems to have all of the features to expect on a bluetooth speaker in today's market. Volume controls on the speaker, the ability to answer a call from the speaker, a microphone to catch your voice during a call, a 3.5 mm auxiliary audio input. From my experience, the claimed 8 hours of play time on a charge seems to be conservative. I have been getting 10+ hours of play time on a charge.

FULLY WATERPROOF. Splashable, submergible. IPX7 waterproof for all of you nerds out there.

Bottom Line:

Great speaker for personal use indoors, outdoors, near water. Use it in the kitchen then hop in the shower and bring it with you. Head out to the pool and bring it with you. Versatile, Indestructible. Incredible value.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy this speaker appears to be! It's compact size takes nothing away from the quality of sound that it puts out. Crisp, clear, without distortions! Small enough to toss in your purse or perhaps hooked thru your belt loop as you ride your bike to the beach, park or while hiking, since it has a handy caribener attached! It also can be directly plugged into a iPad, iPhone etc. The cord is neatly wrapped around the device & hidden away in a channel on the speaker. I thought that was a bit of clever planning on JBL's part. Another nice feature is that your phone will ring thru on the speaker & you can take the call right from the device, then it goes right back to playing your fav music! I know this because I have had two calls while trying to write this review! Lol....anyway it is easy enough to set up, even if you are technically challenged! Rugged little guy!

Five things that make the JBL Clip 2 stand out:
1) Despite its small size, the speaker can get surprisingly loud. I'm definitely not an audiophile by any means, but for an average listener like myself the sound quality is plenty decent, and this is easily the most portable speaker I own. 
2) The speaker includes an audio jack as an alternative to connecting with Bluetooth, which I've found to be super useful when I have friends who want to play music without going through the hassle of connecting (a process which I've actually found to be easier on the JBL Clip 2 than on many of my other Bluetooth speakers).
3) The speaker's battery charge percentage is displayed on your iPhone when connected via Bluetooth - this is minor but I've found it great for making sure I never take it out with me if its close to dead. 
4) The speaker's IPX7 waterproof rating means it can supposedly be fully submerged for up to 30 minutes in up to 3-4 ft of water (haven't fully tested this, but I have gotten it pretty wet with no issues)
5) The clip is actually awesome! At first I thought it was dumb / gimmicky, but I've found myself clipping this little guy to everything from backpacks and clothes racks to belt loops. 

I'm actually considering buying a second one since it apparently has the ability to daisy chain with another speaker via Bluetooth, and I'd love to test that feature out. My only complaint is that the USB charging cable the speaker comes with is like 6 inches long and basically useless sincce it doesn't even cover the distance from most of my outlets to the ground, but I have hundreds of those lying around the house so I just use a different one. 

All in, I would definitely recommend the JBL Clip 2 to anyone looking for a portable, durable speaker with some cool differentiating features. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great little waterproof speaker

I recently rented a villa in Palm Springs, CA. They have a very strict noise ordinance, which if taken seriously, means ear phones only outside. This wasn't working for me so I purchased this Clip 2 and embedded it in a pool float (see picture) ....WOW great sound, no issues with neighbors or code enforcement...totally waterproof and you can string several together so everyone hears the same music. I love this unit!!!!!! For personal listening, I cant believe anything is better....I own enough audio equipment to have an opinion on that!!

Big Sound, small dollars

Best JBL Clip yet!!!!

I'm obsessed with my little speaker! The clip is perfect for any use. From my beach chair, garden cart and canopy at the markets or shows I participate in. Constantly receiving compliments on it, even my Dad was impressed by it. The sound is great and I wish I bought this sooner. Would have been perfect on our trip to Jamaica.

Thrilled with my Clip 2

Good sounding compact speaker to bring wherever you go. Overall sound quality very good for size, it even sounds better turned up a bit. I charged and tested battery life no issues, used on bike ride to the beach, listened at the park and ride back. The clip makes it super handy, I clip it on everything. Haven't tested the waterproof yet and don't really want to get caught in the rain to test it. Great portable speaker for many uses

I bought this speaker a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. I purchased it after having the older generation clip speaker and wanting something that held charge longer. Sounds Great!!!!

I received the JBL Clip 2 for my honest unbiased review. First off, do not be fooled by the small size of the Clip 2. The Clip 2 has now become my favorite carry-on speaker. I like everything about it. The speaker sounds great and loud for its size. It is also small enough to carry around without any hassles. You do not have to worry if you get down poured in the rain on or if you mistakenly drop it in water because it is IPX7 waterproof. The carabiner clip is large, sturdy and a very convenient. The battery is rated @ 8 hours per charge which I was able to confirm, however as with all portable bluetooth speakers, the louder the volume the sooner the battery will need to be recharged. Even though the Clip 2 does not have a remaining battery indicator on the speaker itself it will display the remaining battery in the notification section of an iOS device. At the time of this review, this feature was not available on Android devices.  The speaker feels rugged enough to withstand everyday use. All in all, this speaker is a winner. If you are looking for a small and affordable portable bluetooth speaker check out the JBL Clip 2, you won't regret it!

Bought it as a gift for my wife - tried pairing to three different computers and three smartphones.  Paired initially to her laptop, but then never worked after the first day.  Tried to unpair and re-pair, tried other devices, never worked, and yes, I did push and hold the 'pair' button until the light flashed blue fast...just not a good unit...
