About the Author

Inspired by the piñatas of her childhood, Amirah Kassem sought to create a cake that burst with sprinkles and candy when she cut into it. Her food-based installations have been exhibited everywhere from private settings at the Whitney Museum to 64-foot edible hallways at the Brooklyn Museum, while her fondant-free creations have also caught the attention of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and her Cara the Unicorn creation was named Instagram’s “2017 Trend of the Year.” She opened her first brick-and-mortar store in 2017, and has appeared on the Food Network, the Rachael Ray Show, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Awesome cakes!
I bought this book so I could make the Rainbow Explosion Cake for my daughter's birthday. Her recipe breaks everything down into manageable steps so you can do it at home, and it turned out great. I did make a practice cake before the one for the big day and here are the adjustments I made: 1) do use Mexican vanilla - it really does taste better. 2) I used 5 drops of food coloring in each cake to get the color intensity shown 3) she says you don't need to level off the cakes, but it made a much better result when I did. 4) if your frosting gets too warm, put it in the fridge in between frosting the layers 5) I used wooden dowels to further stabilize the cake, and 6) practice!!I don't consider myself an expert cake maker, but this book should be fun for the expert, accessibly challenging for the "pretty good" baker, and full of fun learning for the novice. Glad I bought it and will make the other cakes for other special occasions.

    I love Flour Shop cakes and I love to bake, so I bought this book the day I saw it for pre-order on Amazon. What I didn't realize is that this book would be absolutely beautiful! Usually I keep my cookbooks on bookshelf or in a closet, but this book is going on my coffee table. It's basically an art book that also teaches you how to make amazing cakes. Obviously she is known for her explosion cakes, but my favorite cake in the book so far is the Pancake Cake or the Watermelon cake.

    I can't wait to see if I can bake the cakes, and I hope I can make them look like Amirah's! Her cakes are so colorful, pretty and fun. After glancing at the recipes, she lays out the steps in a very easy to understand way. Sometimes books assume you know exactly how to do a step or even skip some steps, but this book is straightforwards and shows many of the steps and the ingredients.

    Saw author on Rachel Ray and had to have the book. It has tons of color photos, ideas and recipes. Love the heft of the book and slick feel of pages. Only negative is the font is very small so hard for me to read even with my glasses. Maybe a later version could have a large print option. Well worth the money.

    What a fabulous fun book. It was clearly well written and explained so one could pick up the instructions very easily. I couldn’t put it down and will try my best to make all the cakes at the appropriate times. I already ordered the cake pans from WIlliams Sonoma before even finishing reading. I’m taking everything I need to the Bahamas with me to surprise everyone for New Years. I’ve ordered the basic sprinkles and ‘paint’ but must get the sparkles for the new year. Thank you so much for creating a smashing book, love, love, love it.

    Love the author's take on cakes. Great presentation on cakes. They can be a lil challenging if ur a beginner. However, with a lil patience you got this. Great display for ur kitchen. She was on the Today show. She mainly does small but huge in height. A small piece is huge. On pinterest you can find many cakes that these without having to buy the book. I just love a great colorful cookbook.

    LOVE this book. I mainly love it for the looks - it looks amazing styled next to my vintage cake stands but my sister in law who I also purchased a copy for has had a blast using it with the kids. She is a much bigger baker than me so I would say that's a win

    Just received the pre-ordered copy that I ordered a few months ago. It doesn't disappoint! You pretty much get access to the secrets behind Flour Shop's best, most famous cakes. I love the little stories included with each recipe, and even as a novice baker, I feel like I can make these cakes. People are going to go nuts when I come to the next party with a rainbow explosion cake!
