Mum-of-two pays for entire £1,200 Tesco shop with coupons and donates everything to charity

A MUM-OF-TWO smashed the UK record for biggest ever coupon shop after
exchanging vouchers for a whopping £1,200 worth of food.

Holly Smith, 30, from Gorleston near Great Yarmouth exchanged her tokens for
the supermarket sweep in Tesco Lowestoft, Suffolk – and then donated the
whole shop to charity.

Among the 429 items she took home were 200 packets of sausages, 63 pots of
soup, hundreds of pounds worth of toys and 30 Quorn products.

The coupon-queen, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, collected thousands of shopping
vouchers over months in order to help homeless charity The Benjamin
Foundation.

The organisation helps families and individuals across the country deal with
challenges such as homelessness and finding affordable childcare.

Holly used four trolleys during the huge shopping spree and trawled through
the shop for more than six-and-a-half hours after collecting up to 300
vouchers a day.

She racked up a massive £1,164.39 bill – but didn’t fork out a penny for the
shop.

Holly smashed the previous record for biggest ever voucher shop – a £600 spree
for 4p – out of the park with her coupon cash-in.

Holly, who calls herself the UK’s Money Saving Mum, told the BBC: “The
checkout process with coupons is slow and we were expecting it to take about
five hours, but it took six-and-a-half hours in total – it went fantastic.

“People with Asperger’s tend to focus on certain things and for me that’s
extreme couponing, freebies and bargain hunting.”

She also told how she went to the charity the day before and met people who
would be benefiting from her shop. She told the MailOnline: “It touched
my heart as they told me they would go without food over Christmas, which no
one should!”

On top of Asperger’s, Holly suffers from a debilitating physical illness and a
bone tumour – which forced her to give up work as a promotional worker.

Instead of relying on disability benefits, Holly took up extreme couponing to
save the pennies and her Facebook page “UK Extreme Couponing and
Freebies” now has more than 262,000 likes.

She posted on the group: “Yes I really did get a £1,164.39 for £0.00 at
Tesco by using coupons!!!

“For those asking how I got the Coupons, most of them were off my own
back.

“A TV Production company were planning on making Extreme Couponing UK but
it go axed while I was collecting coupons, I had to have every single one of
my letters approved and all replies checked to see I didn’t use my popular
Facebook page or the fact my shop was going to charity to get coupons.

“The day it got scrapped was the day I decided to do this and to show
people that anyone can acheive this!
