About

A beloved folk rock singer-songwriter who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Paul Simon has become one of the most respected songwriters in rock music. He grew up in Queens, New York and developed an interest in baseball and music at an early age. Along with childhood friend Art Garfunkel, they formed Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 and scored a deal with Columbia Records, releasing their debut Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. They later won ten Grammy Awards and put out four more studio albums including 1966’s Sounds of Silence and 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water before parting ways that year. Simon’s self-titled solo album came out in 1972, instilling Latin and reggae flavors into his soft rock in its singles "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". 1973’s pop-folk album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon incorporated gospel and R&B and its follow-up, 1975’s Still Crazy After All These Years, reached number one on the Billboard charts and had four Top 40 hits including "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "My Little Town" with vocals from Garfunkel. In 1986, Simon released his seventh studio album Graceland, expanding his musical palette by infusing African textures and collaborating with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which went on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His Brazilian music-tinged The Rhythm of the Saints was released in 1990, achieving commercial and critical success, as well as introducing world music to a broader audience. His latest album, the acclaimed 2011’s So Beautiful or So What was touted as one of the year’s best. He has toured successfully through the years, as a solo artist as well as jaunts with both Bob Dylan and Sting, selling out concerts to ticket holders across the globe.

Very Special Show at my FAVORITE Venue

by Mel P on 8/14/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

We were so happy to see Paul Simon and especially at the Fox Theater in Oakland! The band was incredible - many members played multiple instruments. It was an amazing night and Paul seemed to be enjoying the evening and being back on stage after a hiatus. Thank you, Paul!

Life affirming set from a master

by MDT on 8/12/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Paul Simon has retired from regular touring, but that doesn't mean he's just phoning it in when he does perform. This was a brilliant performance.

    Paul Simon was excellent !!!

by Cal on 8/12/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Although I Paul Simon kicked off his concert with concert with some more obscure songs - he played much of his well known stuff and sounded amazing... If he had only closed with “Mrs. Robinson” that would’ve been great. All in all - he was excellent !!!

    Fantastic Concert

    by D. k. on 8/12/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

It was an exceptionally great concert and performance by the legendary Paul Simon. He was energetic and sounded fantastic! His band was also exceptional, an added bonus -- there were at least 12-15 band members and at times 20! Paul Simon performance was one of the best I've seen! A great great experience.

Saved by the Fox staff and a very nice lady.

    by L. Q. on 8/12/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The quality of the music was never in doubt. The issues were created by the demand for tickets (limited to 2) and hard to find two seats together. I strongly support the efforts to limit scalping; it’s against my religion, but it does create its own problems. My biggest issues were based on my own blunders and thanks to the great Fox staff all were solved. A special thanks to the very nice lady who when I told her my wife and I had ended up on opposites sides of the loge offered to switch seats. A perfect evening, great service, great fans, and great music.

    Wonderful evening in Oakland

    by t. on 8/12/19Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I had a first row Lodge seat that was up close and personal. Beautiful theatre that was well prepared and run nicely. The concert was a rich and enjoyable experience. The sound was OK and the lighting fine. I had a good time in the area before the show at Woods Brewery and felt very safe walking around.

Very Few Old hits -- I was disappointed

by electrotom on 11/2/18Amway Center - Orlando

Paul Simon Saved all the great hits form Simon & Garfunkel era for the encore. I think he sung one during the main part of the concert. I was disappointed and sorry I went. I guess if you are into his post Simon & Garfunkel work you will enjoy. otherwise, forget it.

    All I Wanted and More

by aconsummatedman1 on 10/8/18PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I've been a Paul Simon fan for 5 decades. This "Homeward Bound" tour had a set-list that reflected his long, varied, and intelligent song writing career, with inspiring insights about the USA, love, religion (all around the world), and American culture. He opened with "America" and finished his third encore with "American Tune" after encouragingly shouting to the audience, "Strange times, eh? Don't give up!" And the musicians he brought along were so versatile and talented, words cannot describe it - you'd have to hear it. A thoroughly rewarding evening for me; all I hoped for and more.
