Comfy and fluffy, but always has empty spots with no down

Fluffy and comfy, but you can see several areas where the down doesn't cover when you hold it up to light, so there are cold spots. No matter how much you try to shake it to fill in all the empty spots, it just creates other empty spots instead. It would help if the baffles were smaller.

Light, but not warm enough

I bought this quilt because it is advertised as being quite light, and was hoping that being rated at 20 degrees I could get by down to 30 degrees or so. With just a baselayer and warm hat, that was not possible for me. Mid 30s I wore a wool baselayer top and bottom, hat, and down puffy with the hood on to get by. After comparing the actual down fill weight with competitors quilts with comparable ratings, it's no surprise it didn't meet my warmth expectations. There's just not enough down in there to be a 20 degree quilt. I also had a little bit of a hard time distributing the down evenly throughout the baffles. There were quite a few spots where the inner and outer fabrics were touching with no down between them, no matter how I tried to shuffle it around evenly, it was like there just wasn't enough down. Other than that, overall build quality is decent, and I kind of like the pad attachment system, and the snap/cinch around your neck works well. I'll keep it for very mild temperatures, but going to upgrade my cooler/cold weather system.

Well tested

I've had my Vesper 20 for 3 years now, bought for late autumn to early spring escapades. I've twice used it to -6C, the second time on frozen ground that had been -10 for a week (rare in the Scottish lowlands). It was a bit marginal but I could wear my lightweight down jacket under it without stretching the down, as you would in a sleeping bag, and I was warm enough. I got the long version and I'm 185cm. I can lie completely covered by it! Used many other times in less challenging temps but in plenty of rain and condensation, and its great - drys very quickly. I don't use the straps, just throw it over me like you would a duvet. The sewn in footbox works better than the draw cord on the Cumulus quilt I also have. I might even buy another for summer!

GREAT! needs slightly larger stuff sack

LOVE IT! Light and warm with more freedom of movement than a sleeping bag. can’t get it to fit into the stuff sack that came with it, (I had other people try too) so I’m using a slightly larger one.

Meets expectations

Packs well and is light, which is why I bought it. Although it's a couple ounces heavier than listed. When I first got it, the down was pretty poorly distributed, which is to be expected somewhat. But a lot of the quilt had the inner and outer fabric touching. It took a lot of effort and fluffing to get it worked around. I'm a slightly cold sleeper, and from 35-45 degrees I was comfortable with light merino bottoms, socks, t shirt and hooded puffy jacket on a 4.5 R value pad. To get this thing to it's comfort rating of 32 would be a slight stretch for me personally but could be done with the right layering. For early season in the mountains, it's great and most importantly, light.

Alaskan Backcountry Approved

I don't normally leave reviews but I felt compelled to write some for a few choice gear selections following a recent unforgiving Alaskan tundra backcountry caribou hunt. My new Therm-a-Rest Vesper 20 deg quilt happened to be one of the notable ones. The extremely wet late-summer conditions, although anticipated, were a morale impeding challenge. Paired with heavy winds due to lack of vegetation, I looked forward to a warm and comfortable, albeit short, evening rest each day. Paired with a quality high R-value pad, I was very content. I'm a side sleeper who languished with cheaper mummy bags from other companies for years before finally trading up. This quilt is very backpacker friendly. I'm 5' 10" and the regular size worked well for my purposes. I was warm and cozy despite temperatures dipping down to the high 30s. Went to sleep each night with somewhat moist socks and base layers but woke up dry. Was a bit concerned about having down fill in driving rain conditions but didn't experience any issues (due in part to a quality tent) Highly recommend this product! Pros: -Durable -Warm -Side sleeper friendly -Lightweight -Packs small Cons: -Expensive (buy once cry once)

Good for Finnish spring, summer and early autumn - compression bag breaks easily

I love my Vesper quilt, it’s made sleeping in the back country so much more comfortable and free. Have had mine out and about for 5 or 6 times now and it does well in night temps above 10C - it’s even a bit too warm in the middle of Finnish summer. The only downside I’ve noticed is that the compression bag has weak seams - mine has torn by a strap already, and I don’t think I can buy a replacement online :( this packs so small, it’s a little sad when you can’t compress it all the way.

The best decision I made

This Vesper 20 degree quilt was the best decision I ever made on new backpacking equipment! I also purchased the Thermarest Mondo King 3D sleeping pad. These two combined items gave me a backpacking sleeping system that yielded the most comftorable sleep that I have ever had on a longhaul hike on the JMT. The vesper quilt design is such that I was warm on cold nights and never too warm on warmer nights. THANK YOU THERMAREST!

Super light, packable, and easy

Super light, packable, and easy to use. I regularly use it until around 0 C and when combined with some warm layers it is great. I definitely prefer the quilt to my sleeping bag.

Warm and comfortable

This quilt kept me warm on a 30 degree night in the snow under a tarp. It's very light, and packs incredibly small. Attaches to your pad and doesn't let in a draft. I was amazed at how warm my feet stayed in the toe box.
