Came here as a couple in August for a day of wine tasting on the North Fork. The wines were decent, but not as good as those at other vineyards, like Mattebella, that we visited later in the day. We tried the flight of three wines— one red, white, and rose. I found Bedell’s red to be very watery but we both enjoyed the rose the best. We also ordered a cheese platter for around $40. Everything was pre-packaged as if it was purchased from the grocery store. Not sure if this was a safety precaution because of COVID though. Overall, Bedell felt more commercial than the quaintness you travel to the North Fork for. Must give them credit for some of the best views and photos from their elevated porch and photo ops with their blooming garden! Staff was also extremely kind and attentive.

When you enter into the deck, you select your flight and snacks and pay for them. Then you are on your own to juggle carrying them to a table while trying to remember which was which. It was nice to sit on the deck and view the vines during our tasting, but wish there was a nicer experience.

If you want to overpay for your wine, by all means buy it at the winery. The current release of the Cabernet Franc is $45; a local wine store had it for $19.99. The Merlot is $30 at the winery; it's under $20 at many stores on Wine-Searcher. To top it off, IMHO the winemaking has gone seriously downhill since Kip Bedell left the winemaking business. Except for the Cab Franc, I found the current release of the Merlot thin, the Rose was flabby and the so-called Viognier tasted unlike any viognier I've had elsewhere. Plus the labels are now all "trendy" modern art designs - yuck. Not a cellar I'll revisit any time soon.

We were out for a day of wine tasting when we pulled into Bedell vineyards. Two men stood outside and without greeting us coldly handed us a form which they said we had to fill out inside our car. Even though we didn’t have a pen we still tried to comply but were totally put off by their authoritarian questions. One example demand: “well-mannered dogs only”. I think vineyards should either allow dogs completely or not at all, but to demand animals behave a certain way is completely asinine. We didn’t even have a dog with us but the entire atmosphere was so stifling and off-putting that we decided to leave. The two workers guarding the entrance accordingly delivered a mocking and inappropriate hand gesture as a farewell to us. Completely uncalled for. I was shocked. There are way too many vineyards who operate professional and COVID-19 compliant businesses today to put up with this. I suggest trying another vineyard who is more friendly and smart about operating during COVID-19.

I can't explain the varied reviews, as we (two vacationing couple from Virginia)s had a very enjoyable tasting and discussion about the wines with the server at Bedell Cellars. I'm not a big fan of Long Island wines but the flight was a pleasant survey of their offerings and the server was attentive and informative.
They offer a single tasting flight of a variety of 5 wines but agreed to change some of the wines for others. You can also buy single tastings of select wines or full glasses. Of course a bottle is going to cost more than retail just like it would in a restuarant.

Arrived at the door only to be turned away around 2:30pm on Saturday as "a wedding was starting soon". No notice on their website (which had notices of other times when the space would be closed for private affairs). We were advised to visit their sister location about a mile down the road because we could try all the same wines there. Arrived to find an overwhelmed staff (the line to get served was 3 deep at one point). When we tried to order we were told a) there were no "tastings", b) we could choose to order small shots of 3 wines each, and c) there were only 5 or 6 wines available to taste. The hostesses were more interested in just getting our order, filling it, and moving on to the next customer. There was no effort made to talk to us about the different wines, what we liked, what they offered - all things we've experienced (and expected this time) from dozens of wineries in the Fingerlakes, Long Island and NJ. This was the mass-marketing of wine right in our faces. We each ended up trying one of their 3-shot offerings but nothing was very good. Really a poor showing by Bedell. We will not be back. We did go to other wineries in the area and had a MUCH better experience.

We packed a few baskets of hors d'oeuvres for our special diets and to enjoy as we like WITH our bottles of wine we would buy there. BUT were turned away and had to return it to our car. Our friends from PA and NJ were of course disappointed as we had been doing this for over a decade at numerous wineries. Bought a few glasses and left - FOREVER. Went down the street to classic and fantastic Lenz Winery and enjoyed as we had planned. and bought a pile of wine to reward them!!! Revenue and customer $hift.

Another upscale amazing vineyard where the wines are exceptional. The outdoor sitting makes it a must to visit. Highly recommend.

On our sixth winery during our weekend in the north Fork of Long Island. Is the wine good? Yeah. But, this is the only winery that charges a $10 corkage fee to drink their wine in their winery. Rip off? Absolutely. Avoid them like the plague. Next time, increase the cost of the wine
