Yes you can, but because the tank is purple and can be alittle hard to see at first.

The purple area is transparent plastic so you can see the water in there, but the purple is dark, so it is not super easy to see it.

Yes, but it's VERY hard to see.  And awkward to refill, too.  You have to tilt it forward, can't refill it when upright, and you can't see the water level AS you're refilling it.  Small tank capacity, too.  Have to refill it after only pressing two shirts.

No. But it does have a nice pivot ball that attaches it to the handle so the cord can stay out of your way and not be put under tension regardless of where your outlet is or what hand you iron with.

the lower numbers are for delicate fabrics like silk and rayon. the highest setting is for cotton/linen. second to highest setting is for wool. hope this helps! if in doubt, go with a lower setting, test on your garment and then go up from there if necessary.

Silk and wool which includes cashmere, angora and mohair, are natural animal fibers so they don't melt, but they do burn, so they are mid-temp fabrics. They are all basically like your own hair.

Synthetics like nylon, polyester, acrylic and spandex and all the microfibers are low temp because they melt and muck up the soleplate. They should not wrinkle and need ironing anyway!

Cotton, ramie, linen, hemp etc. are tough plant fibers that can withstand the highest temp.

Rayon/viscose is a man-made fiber but made from celullose, the same component cotton is from, but it is a bit delicate, so I would try a mid temp on that and increase slowly if needed.

Adjust temp to something between what each requires when you have blends like poly cotton.

I'm a quilter and sewist. In the past I've spent a lot of money on fancy irons. They were a disappointment. This iron does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do! It takes tap water, doesn't leak, heats up quickly from idle or resting state and gets hot enough to press most fabrics. It isn't expensive but is made well. Bonus points for a nice long cord! I'm never going back!

Simply Tickled

I love this iron , just the right weight, performs quickly on variety of fabric weights and type.  This iron easily presses baby clothes , irons plate shaped to do it all

At last I found it

It is the best iron I've ever had! Multiply features, including multiple Steam settings, along with a 10' cord. Perfect weight, not too light or too heavy, and the stainless ironing plate just glides easily across the fabric. I love this Black %26 Decker iron, and it's worth 10 stars, in my opinion.

I wanted a stainless steel plated iron and I especially liked that this one had a 10 ft. cord. I liked the look of this one and it performed well. The only reason why I returned it is that the wasn't any place to wrap the cord around for storing.  I think the iron needs an area at the tail end to wrap the cord. I ended up going with an iron with a retractable cord.

A Beautiful Well Performing Iron - but....

I purchased this iron after my other Black%26Decker stopped heating.  This one heated fine but the vertical steam button did not work. I tried it several times the first day. I was planning to return it, but the next day I tried it again and after several repeated attempts, it started pushing out steam when I mashed the button.  It still works. So, if you purchase one, you may have prime it before it will start working properly.  Otherwise, it works as expected.

Took a while to start working

I bought this iron with the automatic shutoff, but couldn't find info about the shutoff timing. The iron is shaped good %26 works good. But the timer is set to shutoff in 8 minutes of not being used. This seems like too short of a time for working on sewing because sometimes it is longer than that before I return to my ironing board. I was hoping it would be a 1 hour timer, like the last one I had.

It works ok just to light. I prefer a heavier iron. But for needing an iron, mine died and I picked this one up last minute it's ok. But I couldn't find the Black and Decker Heavy that's what I had before it lasted for years and one day no signs of being sick she died. But because I believe in Black and Decker products I still purchased there product

It's a good iron for someone who doesn't iron much

My iron was leaking water from the base within first week. Black and Decker is replacing since under warranty.

Got a lemon

Clearly, you could see that this iron has been used before scratches all along the bottom, food stains on the outside. Now I have to take my valuable time to return it.

HORRIBLE

There is no direct on and off button or switch.  There are numbers on a dial that is difficult to access, but no explanation anywhere as to what the numbers mean.  The only thing in the enclosed paperwork says: "1. Read fabric labels to help determine fabric type to be ironed.  2.  Once you determine the fabric type, turn the fabric-select dial to select the appropriate fabric setting."  I make clothing and there are no fabric labels.  Looking online is not helpful either, as there is only a chart that is not labeled well enough to know what it means.  The auto-off blinking light is very annoying and sucks power when not necessary...have to unplug from the outlet to prevent wasted energy.  The paperwork says to use tap water for the water reservoir, but buildup of chemicals from my tap water cause a nasty white powder deposit on what I'm ironing when using the steam button.  Distilled water should be used to prevent this buildup.  The auto-clean feature didn't change this buildup and deposit.
