FASTBALL IN CONCERT:

Fastball rose to prominence in the mid-'90s with a unique combination of alternative rock and pop that featured catchy hooks, country-tinged harmonies, and intricate guitar work. Now they’re bringing the same eclectic energy that ignited hits like “The Way”, “Outta My Head”, “You’re an Ocean”, and “Fire Escape” to audiences across the US. At their live shows Fastball runs through their best material with energy to spare, clearly having just as much fun as they did when they started out. Trading off licks and lead vocals, Tony Scalzo and Mike Zuniga pack as much hook-laden joy as they can into each song, treating ticket buyers to feel-good concert experience chock-full of pop rock goodness.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Fastball formed in Austin, TX in 1995 when drummer Joey Shuffield introduced singer-songwriters Tony Scalzo and Mike Zuniga. United by their love of catchy songcraft, the three began to write music and play shows together. Within the year they released their debut album Make Your Mama Proud, an auspicious collection of power pop tunes that helped them build a regional following. They broke onto the national scene in 1998 when their single “The Way” skyrocketed up the charts, leading to appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Behind the strength of the single and its stellar follow up “Outta My Head”, the group’s breakthrough album All the Pain Money Can Buy (1998) went Platinum. The band’s third album The Harsh Light of Day (2000) offered the single “You’re an Ocean”, giving Fastball their third sizeable hit in a little over two years. Since 2000 the band has released two more studio albums, a live record, and a best-of compilation while also continuing to tour the world.

    Fastball - Simply Incredible

by Steaknpotatoeguy on 9/20/17The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

I had never been to The Canyon before. It was a long drive, but one I was happy to make to see Fastball. When I walked into the venue, I was shocked to see how empty the place was. A sign of the times, I suppose. People just don't seem to appreciate bands of this caliber anymore. I sat down at my seat in the front row and I was absolutely blown away at the talent of this amazing and under-rated band. One of my all-time favorites. There are no forgettable songs in their catalog. Guitar driven songs with phenomenal vocals and well-written lyrics. Although I've been listening to this incredible band for many years now, this was my first opportunity to see them live and I'm sure glad I did. They played everything I wanted to hear and then some. I was even able to get the band to sign their setlist to boot. A show I won't forget. As per the venue, I was pleasantly surprised. It was very small and clean. Not a bad seat in the house. Money well spent.

Openers were very good. Fastball was great. They even played a Doors cover which was great. Event staff friendly. The photographers were annoying.

    Fastball Rocks Detroit!

by AnglicanBeachParty on 8/8/17Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

Fastball is a straight ahead rock and roll outfit. There is no place to hide for these musicians, but then, they don't need that. Brilliant songs, brilliantly performed is what they brought to this live performance at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit. St. Andrew's has a very "live" feel. The bass and drums came through to us with exceptional clarity. This was a hugely nostalgic concert for me and my 23-year-old son. You see, when Fastball's first album broke onto the airwaves in the late 1990s, he was 4 years old. I used to play guitar and sing him to sleep, and high on our hit parade were such Fastball hits as "Fire Escape" and "The Way." So, for him, almost 20 years later, to actually see the band firsthand was a momentous and wonderful thing for him, and for me. Fastball still has it, too, as demonstrated by a generous offering of songs from their newly released album. Don't miss this band!

    Fastball delivers

by CincyAreaGuy on 8/1/17Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Fastball has been one of my favorites for years, and I was pumped when I heard they were coming to Cincinnati...and tickets were only $20! The band totally delivered, playing a good mix of songs from all of their albums -- old and new -- with good energy. They all seemed pretty relaxed and had good interaction with the audience (which sadly, was small). I would totally see them again. I hope they keep putting out music and touring.
