it should have a cliff sensor which mine does and prevent it from going over the edge.

I leave it unattended in the hallway to the stairs all of the time, it has never fallen down the stairs.

Your shark comes with boundary strips. You'll need to put a strip at the top of your staircase. The shark will detect the strip and turn around. Hope this helps!

When cleaning upstairs floor, will the Robot fall down the stairway or will the Robot sense the stairway and re-navigate its route? Thanks

I always wanted to experience what a 'robot' vacuum would do to my house. So, I jumped at the chance to receive one complimentary in exchange for an honest review. Maybe robot vacuums aren't for everyone, but they provide quality, efficient floor cleaning for me especially, while I am away, or, at work. The Shark Ion Robot pays for itself over time and convenience in the long run.

After three weeks of daily use, I am super-impressed by what this little 'Sharkie' can do (Personal Name I Assigned Using The Shark Ion Robot App). First, I am obligated to explain that 'Sharkie' is not for every one of the rooms in my house, and probably not yours, either. The Shark Ion Robot has some limits – it does not like obstructions or stuff on the floor (magazines, toys, cords) and other kinds of 'loose' objects. Instead of using the included barrier-strips', I just close the doors to the rooms I don't want 'Sharkie' to wander into. So, I have limited 'Sharkie to cleaning my Great Room, Living Room', Hallway, Dining Room and Kitchen only. There are too many traps, and, barriers for 'Sharkie' to navigate and successfully clean those other rooms (My Bad). This Shark Ion Robot cleans over half my house while I am gone. And, what he cleans is the bulk of my foot traffic. . . . WooHoo!

Cleaning – 'Sharkie' does a good job cleaning up my, tile, linoleum, and carpeted floors. I am impressed how 'Sharkie' jumps over the transitions from carpeted to non-carpeted surfaces with ease. Over all I think 'Sharkie' is much more efficient on my hard-surfaced floors then my carpeted areas. It takes longer to clean the carpet floors, and often requires docking to re-charge before it is finished. I believe my thick carpet presents 'Sharkie' more challenges to roll over and requires more power to do so. The spinning side-brushes do a superior job of eliminating debris from the edges of my hard-surfaced floors. 'Sharkie' has a generous capacity for dust and debris while cleaning on a every day basis. After the second week of daily operation I only needed to empty the dust/debris bin every other day. Great that the included filter is washable. Mine needs attention once a week. 

Hand-Vacumming Convenience – Since 'Sharkie's' charger is placed in a central location, the hand vac is always handy. Love how powerful the suction is for spot cleaning, and the versatile crevice, multi-surface pet, and dusting brush tool attachments. I can use the hand-vac for up to 30 minutes before it requires re-charging. I found myself using the hand-vac more in the kitchen for spot clean-up (counters & floor) then on my furniture. The one-touch release of the dust/trash bin is super neat. Never have to get my hands dirty. How cool is that? 

Shark Ion Robot App – You can get the App either from Apple or Google Play Stores. 'Sharkie' operates on the 2.4 GHz Frequency on my home/office router. It is easy to set-up and use. I highly recommend downloading the App because it gives you a snapshot of what your Shark Ion Robot is doing now, history, and immediate control of its functions. I can also be notified if 'Sharkie' gets stuck while I'm away through the mobile App. The Shark App lets me check on 'Sharkie' as to what his status is in current time. I can change, prior, set cleaning times, and change the cleaning status of 'Sharkie', i.e. Max Cleaning, Quiet Cleaning or 'OFF/ON', Dock, using the downloadable 'Shark ION Robot' App. Additionally, you can connect this Shark Robot to Amazon Echo and just tell Alexa to run the vacuum. You can also enable your Google Assistant for voice commands. The App walks you through the process of connecting to your home router (2.4Ghz), which enables you to control this robot from anywhere using your mobile phone.

Wish-It-Had – After three weeks of use I wish the Shark-Ninja designers built-in holders onto the vertical charger base to store the three hand-vac attachment tools. I use the hand-vac several times during the day, but keep misplacing my attachment tools. 

Summary – I am pleased with the quality of hard-surfaced floor and carpet cleaning that my 'Sharkie' does on a daily basis, and, while I am away from home to boot. YooHoo! I highly recommend the purchase of this Shark Ion Robot. It would save you lots'a time if used on a daily basis, and result in much cleaner floors, too. What's not to like? This Shark Ion Robot would also make a phenomenal gift to newlyweds, family members, or friends.

Multi-Functional, Efficient, Wi-Fi Enabled, Robot

My wife and I have been impressed with our daughter's robot vacuum (another brand) for a couple of years now, so we were excited to get one of our own! By owning other shark products, we expected to get a quality product and were not disappointed. The very nice and organized packaging comes with everything you will need use the kit. It comes with the robot vacuum, hand vacuum with 3 attachments, and a blocking strip to restrict where it can go. The only assembly that is required is popping the brushes onto to bottom of the robot and plugging in the charging station. After charging for about three hours, it was ready to use. The robot and hand vacuum are both very powerful and the hand attachments work great. I highly recommend using the app to be able to control the robot remotely and track its status. You can also set the robot to clean on a schedule. It was also very easy to connect to wi-fi though the app while closely following the required steps. All it takes is to select “clean” and then the robot takes care of the rest.
The robot will run a little over an hour on normal power before it starts searching for the docking station to take itself back to. I have noticed that the robot still vacuums while it is searching, but the brushes on the front stop rotating (I assume to conserve battery power so it can make it back to dock). You can also manually send it back to dock at any time with the app or button on top. Depending on the layout of the furniture in your room, the robot could have a hard time making it back to dock. Our living room is very large with our couch, loveseat, and recliner almost splitting it in half, kind of making the open space into a horseshoe shape. This not only makes it more difficult to make it to the other half of the room (because of the one and only opening on one end) it also makes it harder for the robot to get back to dock if it is on the opposite side of the horseshoe. It keeps wanting to go “through” a piece of furniture. You can always place the robot back on the charger manually if needed.
The actually cleaning method works pretty well with the robot getting out of “trap” areas pretty easily. As long as you don't have any furniture that is just the right height to trap the robot and you do a good job of moving objects off of the floor, you shouldn't have to use the “stop” strips in too many places except to divide rooms if needed. The only negative about the method is that it still moves “randomly” and doesn't map out your room or house to follow a set route every time. Also, if stopped in the middle of a cycle, it does not pick up where it left off. Based on my research, you have to pay almost twice the price to get a robot that “maps”. The bin holds a lot of dirt and other material and you will be surprised at how much material it picks up even on a floor that already looks clean. 
You still need to clean out of corners or areas that the robot can't reach, but overall, I think this thing is great and does a good job. But mostly, it is convenient.

Great vacuum that is convenient and easy to use

I enjoy watching "Sharkie" vacuuming my floors.  It comes out so clean.  I never know where she's going next.   Our cat learned how to turn on our vacuum.  I covered it with a metal grate, now she can't start it.

I love Sharkie

Excellent quick setup guide and instruction manual. Just pop on 2 edge brushes, and charge both vacs. You need a wall that is clear for 3 ft on each side and 5 ft in front of charger. Power cord is 6 ft long.
2 spare edge brushes included. The base has spaces to hold the attachments but no pegs or bins for them, which would have been better.
In my upstairs kitten fostering room, the robot does a great job picking up both litter and all the hair stuck to the carpet, and the kitties are fascinated without being shocked. It easily transitions onto litter matts and even goes up onto the cat tree bases. It doesn't fall down open stairways. On the main floor, it goes through several rooms with all sorts of flooring types and thresholds for 1 or so hours and then it docks itself. It takes several hours to recharge fully again. It spends quite a bit of time under dining chairs, but eventually finds its way back out of them.
It doesn't groom rugs/carpets the way uprights do, but is comparable on hard floors.
The 8 ft of blocking strip works, but I put physical barriers around too because more are needed.
I don't run the robot when not home as it can get hung up somewhere and there are no push alerts from the mobile app, so must watch in the app. The robot broadcasts its own Wi-Fi SSID when on, which I wish I could switch off since I don't use the app or voice control. 
The handheld gets into all the small spaces the robot can't reach, so a delightful complement! It has strong suction. The tip is rubber so doesn't scratch furniture. The upholstery pet hair attachment is amazing! Huge clumps of hair and jute from the cat trees stick to the velour strips!
Both vacs' bins are a breeze to empty with a push of a button.
This is my 4th Shark vac and 1st robot. I'm a huge fan of Shark vacs, and they thrilled me yet again with this model. Highly recommend it!

Wonderfully designed!

Shark always in my opinion produces high-quality products. After using this (SHARK ION\u2122 Robot Vacuum Cleaning System S86 with Wi-Fi - RV850WV) for a week or more now, its obvious Shark is still going strong! These robotic vacuums are extremely pricey however; if you can afford one, do make the purchase.

This is just a blast to watch let alone use. Talk about convenient? If you enjoy keeping things tidy around the house and are easily entertained, I'd buy this product and perhaps an extended warranty too. Why not? For its price and quality, you'd better protect it.

My favorite feature is how Shark incorporated the ultra-convenient hand-held vacuum factor. I LOVE THIS THING! My wife and I enjoy watching it do its magic around the house and its just fun okay? 

If you've pets, kids whatever the case, take a break all the while keeping things clean too. The absolute best feature about this Shark robot system is you can even use an app for scheduling cleanings. AWESOME!

Walmart by the way, in my opinion, is much better than that other place that charges a membership fee, just to ship within 2 days (all the while their priming only revenue). Walmart ships within 2 days, and with no membership charges! I order online from Walmart all the time, so much nicer than standing in lines and loading-up carts.

Its the shark that works even in the dark!

As an owner of several Shark products which I LOVE I had no reservations about trying the Sharkion Robot Cleaning System.
Once my curiosity and fascination abated I relaxed and watched it do its thing. The Sharkion Robot is amazing and performs quite well. Tight navigation areas seemed to give the robot a little difficulty dislodging itself. Because the robot has this difficulty I do wish the battery life was longer. If you have a large area with furniture more widely spaced that would probably rectify this problem. The robot runs quietly and does a good job vacuuming. The brushes attached to the robot sweeps and collects debris into the vacuum satisfactorily. 
The Sharkion Robot cleaning system comes with a detachable hand vacuum wand for cleaning areas like stairs, furniture, drapes and such. The wand also collects the debris in its handle for slide button release. No getting your hands dirty! The robot can be operated from the onboard controls or an application from your phone. It has 3 clean settings: quiet, normal and max. From the application you can control start, dock, or set a schedule. The application is wi-fi and voice controlled. It will send notifications if the robot needs assistance (stuck). There is also a locator (FIND) which when used will cause the robot to emit sound. It is designed for pet hair but I don't have any, therefore I am unable to pass comment. 
Another great product by Shark.
