This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You don’t want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 - 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames won’t be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring.
Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, I’m too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely don’t need to move it inside when it’s raining once the cover is protecting it.
I wasn’t keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. There’s enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. There’s a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank.
Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didn’t see the gauge on my tank move very much.
Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I'm also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. It costs only $16 right now for the black one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005KD0U16/ref=mobile_oh_details_?ie=UTF8&psc=1#

A must have fire pit!
No real assembly needed. I would say to strategically build your rock pile for optimal flames though.
Maneuverability is good, easy to move where and when you need, get the bag.... comes with the cover as you'll need it to keep the rocks in while moving in the bag.
Few things I did not like while exploring though
1) Most fire rings have a central hook up and this does not which means if the rings gets worn there is no replacement or upgrades , so check the site and contact customer service to see if there are replacements.
2) This has a pressure switch. Must maintain a certain amount of pressure in order to function. Which also means buying a nice 150k BTU air mixture valve to get your flames higher and hotter wont work. You could but you would be Frankensteining it.
Its worth the buy ... It will get its use and long-term durability is still on question
It is made of good material and is a better buy than a 300 pit table which are not made for actual winter use.

Pros:
- Great size for a big camping group to sit around
- Provides consistent heat
- Feels very sturdy and seems that it will last a long time
- Comes with 2 extra bags of rocks to replace those that get burned up
- A full tank lasted 2 long nights of use with a bit left over
- Has a cover with an elastic band for storage
Cons:
- Some rocks do get blacked up from the fire (has no effect on the use, just the appearance)
Dislikes - like all propane fire pits, it can be a gas hog. I really haven't found anything to complain about.
Normally it sits in my yard and FYI, we have synthetic grass - not issues with excess heat melting it even though it is sat directly on it.
We take it camping (allowed when fire bans are in affect as there are no sparks) as it turns out, a bottle of propane will comfortably do a 3 day trip (3 hours each day average) and is about the same price as the wood you would buy in the camp grounds anyway.
Big bonus, no mess, no building a fire from scratch. NB* like all propane fire pits get one of the BBQ Lighters... it does give a "woosh" when lighting it 😀
It comes with enough Lava rocks that I suggest keeping one bag as a spare. They will crack and split over time and require replacement. We have used ours average of Twice a week over the last 6 months and haven't had any issues.
It comes with a cover, elasticated nylon with heat reflector on the inside. Let the fire cool completely before using it. One tip, I put a flower pot on the rocks and put the cover over it. Stops the rain from pooling in the cover.
Easy to set up, looks great, and throws off a lot of heat once the lava stones heat up! (around 20 mins)
I read a review on here that said the Mega Firebowl only had 3 legs; that's false... it has 4 legs and it's very stable. All of their firebowls are 58,000 BTU's so it doesn't matter what one you buy, the same heat will be present at similar settings.
I got it going on high heat to get the stones heated up and then we turned it down to past half way and it looked great and still provided ample warmth on a chilly October night!
Extremely happy with the build quality and the brand overall, I highly recommend the Mega Firebowl if you're looking for their largest model!
It really is a good unit but doesn’t give off as much heat as you’d expect, so I’ve ordered a vertical patio heater to supplement.
Dislikes:
- cover looks great, fits well. It is NOT waterproof. We’ve had lot of rain in recent weeks and rocks became saturated. Can’t imagine this will be good when temperatures start to freeze. So an alternative is imperative.
- Pricing! Originally saw this unit for $197. Discussed with family before buying, an hour later $214, which I payed. Couple days ago a friend said he’d be interested in buying one. I sent him info last night, listed at $185. This morning it’s $189?
Called Amazon Prime cs, couldn’t wouldn’t do anything. I literally have to order lower price unit and return the higher price one. No cost to me. Makes no sense but I save $30 or 15+%. And someone will be out a lot of shipping $$$. And sadly I won’t even take the new one out of the box, just stick the return label and take it to PO.
If Outland reaches out to me on this, I’ll be happy to revise this review. Stay tuned...
