Great all around full frame camera
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this camera in December 2013 and had no idea of the fast and sharp pictures it would take. The auto focus is good, but you also have the ability to control all the setting through manual mode. I have travel now to 41 countries with it and it is a great camera that you can technically fit in your pocket. Although, it takes up most of a men’s pant pocket. I am now upgrading to the RX 100 V because of the 4K video recording capability and the flip up LCD screen. Also, I recommend buying a polarized filter lens.

Great Low Light Camera

Great picture quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as a replacement for a lost (and later found, but kept the RX-100 anyway) Canon S95. I have a Canon 7D DSLR that I use for a lot of my shooting, but as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you, and I toted my S95 just about everywhere I went, so I definitely wanted a replacement when I lost it. I read reviews (as most people have) about how the RX100 was a game changer, and so it came down in the end to the S120, the RX100, and the RX100 II. You can read the specs for the differences between the rx100 and the II; wifi and the opposable screen were enough for me to go for the II. I will probably never use the hotshoe. First, picture quality: it is, as you can imagine, fantastic. I did a series of tests against other higher-quality point-and-shoots, and there is a definite difference. Now, is it worth the extra few hundred dollars? That's a decision only you can make, but the difference is there. That said, the size increase over Canon's offerings (S95 S110 S120 etc) is also noticeable. The S95 or S120 I could easily slip into the back pocket of my jeans while the RX100 II is noticeably bulkier. I've started carrying my point and shoots in a small lowepro case on my belt, but even there you can feel that it takes up more real estate than the Canon. Also, the Canon's zoom is obviously wider. This isn't such a big deal, but if you're looking to eke out that last few millimeters of zoom, you might want to take a closer look at the Canon. Finally, there are the ergonomics. I've had awhile to get used to the Sony, but I still like the Canon's ergonomics and find them more intuitive. The lens ring on the Sony doesn't have positive clicks as you rotate it, which is a bit annoying, and buttons on the back are smaller than those on the Canon. In summary, I am very happy with the Sony, but the daylight between it and the Canon is extraordinarily small, especially when using it as a causal point and shoot to take out on a night with friends, etc.

Awesome qulaity if you're willing to pay the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife got this for me for my 50th Birthday. I never would have spent this amount of money for a point and shoot camera but I had been complaining about my old camera so she got this for me. That said once you get past the price this is a wonderful camera. I found it to be easy to learn. The controls are very intuitive, the settings also have popup instructions that tell you a bit about the setting you are on, (this can be disabled if this sort of thing annoys you). I haven't used this a lot but have taken it to a birthday party and outdoors for some puppy play dates. The indoor photos are very good, by far better than my old camera, Casio Exilm EX Z-70. There is no comparison of the video quality either. I was amazed on the quality of videos this took of the dogs playing. As a tip, if you take a lot of action photos, learn how to use the "S" mode and it will greatly improve the action photos you take. I was a bit worried about the battery life because I read a lot of complaints about this regarding the first version. But it looks like Sony got this straightened out with the M2 because I have taken about 100 photos and 15 minutes of video and have not had to recharge the battery yet. The NFC works really well with my Galaxy S4 so I can wirelessly copy my photos to my phone. You do need to install the Sony Play Memories App to do this though. One thing you can't do is to transfer AVCHD videos through wireless. I've read that doing this may damage the videos due to the compression used during transfer, I haven't tried MP4 format yet. One thing that I don't like about Play Memories is that I can't chose where to download the photos to on my phone. I want them to go to a certain folder on the SD Card but it automatically chooses a folder on the phone itself and I have not been able to change this.

Amazing photos for a point and shoot
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing in low light, very fast shutter speed for a non SLR, AND fits in my pocket. Not sure why you might be getting a camera, but for me its picture quality and ease to get out and actually use. My Canon SLR is nice but bulky enough I left it behind a lot. This is just too easy to take everywhere and pictures look amazing. Manual is hard to read, but playing around taught me most of what I needed to know. Not like the old days where I would be wasting film. Expensive but so far I love it.

Best Point-and-Shoot available
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this camera less than two months, having purchased it just prior to a cruise vacation, and after seeing the great (customer and article) reviews of the initial model RX100. Now, some 1100 pictures later, I'm a true believer, Ease of use, large variety of special features, excellent picture quality easily overcome the only two problems I have. One is the relative size of the camera as opposed to a "standard" point-and-shoot. It is larger, of course, but still fits on a case hanging from my belt -- so that's a minor getting-used-to problem. The only real problem is the lack of a actual viewfinder, which I hope the RX100 model 3 will eventually solve....

Worth paying a little extra for
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had many digital pocket cameras in the past and have never been satisfied with them, because I wanted to use them to "capture the moment", and the time they took to focus and shoot was so slow, that the moment was long gone by the time the picture was taken. Most of them had the "press shutter button halfway to focus" feature, and when you did, they would flash a light on and off rapidly and the focus would go in and out for a few seconds, annoying people and scaring away pets and wildlife. This camera is totally different. When you press the shutter button it shoots. Bam. No waiting. No press halfway to focus. It's exactly what I was looking for. I also chose to get the model that included WiFi, which was a few hundred more than the "basic", but for me it was worth it. I've only had the camera for a few weeks so I can't really comment on all the other features, there are a lot and look forward to learning about them.

Q: QuestionBest way to get clear low light shots with actionWhat is the best way to achieve good motion shots in low light on this camera? I am frequently trying to capture images or video in poorly lighted gyms or auditoriums. Is there a recommended preset that handles these conditions well?
Asked by AA.
- A:Answer Use the highest ISO you are comfortable with digital noise wise. Preferably 3200 or above. Shoot at the widest aperture preferred setting 1.8 at 28mm if possible. This will give you the fastest shutter speed possible. Last but not least pan with your subject. - good shooting!

Q: QuestionCan I connect a microphone cord to assist in recording?
Asked by Microphone.
- A:Answer The RX100M2 itself does not have a microphone jack. The only way to connect external audio to it is via the multi interface hot shoe. You can buy an external microphone such as the ECM-XYST1M which mounts directly on the hot shoe, or the XL1-K1M adapter which allows you to connect two external audio inputs via XLR jacks.
