It is hard to answer that question without having the product in your hands and giving it a try. I think that the adjustments on the bar allow for a doorway that is 5.5 inches. But instead of trying the bracket, I would modify the mounting procedures to a stronger, safer mount that easily allows for you 5.5 inch door frame. Once again, you'd have to have the product in your hands and try it....

I use mine on a set of trim that is 3.5" trim, and it is maxed-out.

No there is not enough adjustment for 6&quot;. My trim is 3&quot; and there is only 1-2&quot; left for adjustment

will this pull-up bar fit door moldings 6 inches tall?

Every time I turn the corner my 17yr old son is hanging from this. He had  zero complaints %26 whenever I need him, there he is! Soon he will be to bulky for me to boss around! Maybe I need to hang out there also?

My son is happy to work out at home. He can remove from door frame at anytime. If you are worried it comes with a safety clip if needed.

Learn a pull up at home.

My brother and I love this thing, we had to do a little tweaking with it to place it in the door way but once we did we are using it daily now to get those pull ups in! It bends a little in the middle which looks like it might snap but it also seems sturdy enough to hold our weights so not to worried about it! Full stars for it!

Daily pulls

This pull up bar is adjustable, you can make if fit bigger or smaller door frames. My door frames now are particularly big/bulky and non of the other pull up bars would fit, but this one fits perfectly using the maximum extension.

Other reviewers have noted dissatisfaction with the quality, in particular the screws. I have found not problems with the quality or have concerns for safety using this bar. Though I should note that I have my own set of wrenches that I used to assemble. If I only used the tiny wrench provided in the box I could have only screwed in the screws about half way, which would probably be too unstable. So I think the problem other people may have had was difficulty fully screwing in everything. I recommend using wrenches to assemble.

I have previously used the "Perfect Gym" pull up bar for 2 years, did p90x three times with it, never had any problems. Based on the feel of that bar, I expect to have no problems with this bar which feels even sturdier.

Good adjustable Pull-up bar

Sturdy and well fitted but doesn't extend the full width of the 39inch frame, leaving the padding partially supported. I thought a pull-up bar advertising 38 inches would be suitable for a 39inch frame

Great but could be longer for wider frames

The "Perfect Multi Gym" fits into a normal doorway and supports a 180 lb person doing pull-ups without any problem. Assembly was easy and it goes into place quickly. It must have the usual trim around the doorway in order to be supported. I use it in a spot where the door never needs to be shut and just leave it in place. This is my second one: a family member liked it too and "borrowed" my first one.

Nice exercise tool

Overall good, sturdy and stays in place.  The handlebars and grips aren't wide enough. Hurts to grip.

Alright for price

I love this as a pull up bar and it is very functional, but unfortunately due to the lack of studs above my door the top bar was able to start pushing through the drywall. Also had a couple holes drilled wrong but not so much so that I couldn't make it work.

Will work, but survey your wall first

The grips is torn and coming off just after 2 months of moderate use. The rubber patch that rest on the door frame are getting dislocated too. Disappointed!

Could not assemble because some of the Allen head bolts were formed incorrectly, the Allen head slot was filled on two of the four bolts.

Poor quality control.
