Get this one, not the cheaper one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was confused about what to get initially(the $30ish one or this). If you do the cheaper one, you will still have to pay money for the test apparently. This one is just once and done $99 for the ancestry test. You can upgrade to the health version at a later date, and will receive results immediately upon paying. I'd recommend waiting until they send you the $45 offer, though the health portion honestly is just meh; 23andMe don't test for a lot of things. All of the traits portion were correct for me, so that at least helped to back up any skepticism I may have had. It was cool to see, but not helpful. Anyway, I was very happy with this, especially since there is no additional lab fee for the ancestry portion. What you pay here is it. I ordered 2 of these kits and picked them up a few days later. Follow the instructions and you have a small chance of having low call rate errors. I took mine immediately in the morning after sleeping/not eating for over 8 hours and filled slightly above the fill line, making sure any bubbles were above the line. Some people recommend scraping your cheeks with your teeth and then spitting. 23andMe is concerned with accuracy, so you will likely get lots of "broadly" categories-if that bothers you, you may prefer Ancestry instead. It seems this happens a lot with people of Asian decent. Your broadly categories should break down with future updates though, as more people take the tests and the science progresses. Also, your results will be ready within the time period they state(like 8-10 weeks) after your kit has arrived at the facility and have been scanned in. The volume will go up during holidays, so it will likely take longer to scan in your kit. I've heard ancestry is faster, but my results didn't take long at all. Overall, I'm very happy i took this. I'm mixed race and usually consider myself "caucasion" or "hispanic", but found out I'm actually caucasion/European and Native American. Also found some cousins I didn't know existed. Pretty neat, definitely satisfied a lot of my curiosity.

Great Product for Ancestry with some limitations
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I really love this product. It is great for showing you your ancestry and explaining it to you. The traits information is a nice additional touch, but I have found the health information of little use. This may be because I didn't have many positive markers and maybe it would be more useful for those who do. The DNA kit from rival Ancestry.com is a better choice for building a family tree and tracing your individual ancestors, as this function if very bad on this product. However, the Ancestry.com kit does not present your ancestry as a whole anywhere nearly as good as this product does.

Happy about it only being a one time payment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got it on sale and found out so much more about myself than I thought I would!! I thought I'd have to pay extra to see all the fancy, schnazzy dna details about my ancestry, so I was dreading the email that would tell me " thanks for buying our kit, now fork over 200 dollars to find out stuff you already know!" But no jokes, this kit was the real, one time deal, and it was super easy to use. It even came back sooner than I expected it to, and the results were easy to look at. Very satisfied.

The gift that keeps on giving
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the 23 and me kit from Best Buy. Is it all that it’s cracked up to be? Is it worth the price? Yes and Yes! Pros: Extremely easy to use, comes with instructional information, tons of exciting ancestry you may not expect. Updates of your DNA status, prepaid return label Cons: It’s a pretty lengthy time frame. Prepare to wait a month in a half to two months for your results. Regardless of the time frame, purchasing the 23&Me kit has its life long rewards. I’m am completely in awe at my results (in a good way)

Answers a lot of questions
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since my parents couldn't really give me any definitive answers about our history so I decided to buy this and see if it told me any new information. I'm happy I did because I did find out a lot of new stuff. The good thing about this kit is once you get it you wait 30 mintues (don't eat or drink anything) then spit into a vile that comes with the kit and send it off in the box in came in that already has a prepaid label on it. They say it takes about 4-6 weeks to get results but for me it took about 2 and half weeks. Just FYI it tells where your ancestors most likely came from but there is a percentage that is unknown in the test results. If you're curious to know where your ancestors were from I would say give this product and try. Oh yeah and you can connect with other relatives that have sent in samples as well. The good thing about this is you don't need to pay for a monthly subscription like other DNA tests.

Nice to know
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like everyone else I am sure, I wanted to know what my genetic heritage looked like. I had seen a sibling's workup, but she was on the other end of a line of seven children and nothing in life is as simple as you usually think it is. True enough, when I got my results I have a half-sister (or a granddaughter?) who has shared her results in 23andme. Unfortunately, there are degrees and limits of sharing and I can't see her name, location or anything about her specific genetics. The test was easy and though I had read of others having to re-test mine was simple. I got updates and answered a zillion questions before I got my results (took a couple of weeks from start to finish) so they didn't just leave me hanging in radio silence. There are some cool aspects and lots of things to read, but there are the cheesy aspects too, like being related to King Louis or some such. I am sure some people eat that stuff up, but it is ridiculous. Anyway, I am glad I took the genetics part and less thrilled about spending another hundred to get some health risk analyses that are kinda meh. I would recommend this for others to try, especially any of my other half-sisters!

Easy and neat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The test itself was very easy. The packaging and then app download is also very cool. After you send in your sample, you get updates on where they are with the process. I have had several family members do this as well and this product is highly recommended. If you're curious at all about your ancestry - check this out.

Q: QuestionMy mom never knew her father, could this test help determine my grandfather and his family members? With only my saliva, my mom is deceased.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I found two first cousins I didn't know I had and we in turn did some detective work on our own and found that my father's brother had fathered two girls. One while he was in the service and didn't know about and the other he had not seen since she was little. We are all in our 60's now. Happy ending.

Q: QuestionWhat times of the year do you have sales and are there discount and coupons.
Asked by vio.
- A:Answer Sales run continuously throughout the year in the various departments that Best Buy displays. There are great discounts and coupons; one of the biggest ones being their exclusive charge cards partnered with CITI Bank. There current promo is 10% back in rewards on first days purchase, or the option for some financing.

Q: QuestionWhich kit do I purchase if I want to see if I have a 1/2 sibling?
Asked by AnnabelleR.
- A:Answer The basic kit will provide you with that information assuming you and your half sibling are taking the test and sharing the results. The addional information you get from the higher priced kit includes the information you seek, plus additional information which is personalized to you and would not be helpful in regards to determining relationship to someone else. If you knew a relative had a disease which could be inherited and you want to know if your DNA puts you at higher risk for the same condition then the higher priced kit would be helpful, or if you just wanted to know if you were at higher risk for a certain disease it could help determine that too. However, while this information can prompt you to be watching for symptoms of a particular condition, it doesn't necessarily mean you will ever have it so the health results have to be put in proper perspective because many factors go into determining whether you will develop a particular disease. Therefore, you must not read too much into the health results if you choose the higher priced kit.
