And I have to say they delivered! Loads faster and my picture is sharper. That's all I wanted, (as the old one broke).
Works great far as I'm concerned.

I never thought of buying one of these devices before until I got the Google Home and it cast to Chromecast ... I think it's a good product to get because It turns my Non-smart TV smart, so now I can watch Netflix and other apps...

I baby all of my possessions, electronic or not, so this is pretty disappointing. Has been on its last legs fritzing out for several weeks now, it just glitches and freezes while streaming Netflix, and goes into a random color screen of death. Pretty disappointing for a device that just about a year old that costs $70.00 to break down for no apparent reason, rhyme or reason.
My cheaper, basic, first generation Chromecast is still going strong in the bathroom TV. As a longtime first adopter of Google products, with like five Google assistants all over the house, and other Chromecast devices, and better tester of software, this isn't the norm for their products, but, Google, you gonna stand behind your products and replace this thing for me?

Hi PompousHero,
Thanks for your valuable feedback on Chromecast Ultra. We’re sorry to hear you’re having this issue. A disappointing experience is definitely not what we want you to have with our products.
If you’re encountering performance and quality issues when trying to cast content, please try the following:
- Toggle Wi-Fi off/on your phone. - Exit any battery-draining applications that are running on the background. - Turn off power saving mode on your device. - Decrease the distance between the TV, your casting device (phone/tablet/computer), and the Wi-Fi router. The distance should be less than 15-20 feet (5-6 meters) apart, ideally within the same room. - Keep your phone’s operating system up to date. - Unplug both the Chromecast Ultra and the router from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for at least 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, plug it back in, and wait for it to completely reboot.

I love my Google products and this is definitely one of them. We utilize this product in our living room paired with our Google Home speaker for a better 4K streaming experience.
My only complaint is that it is not a standalone product where you can simply control it right out of the box. It doesn't come with a HUB to browse on the television or a remote to control it. Your phone, tablet, PC, laptop OR Google Home speaker is your "remote". So if for some unearthly reason you do not have any of these things, you will not be able to control/use this.
I planned on getting another one for our guest bedroom; however, I cannot justify requiring my guests to have Google's Home app, connecting to my wi-fi and using their phones in order to watch television in the comfort of their room while they stay with us. I also cannot justify having to spend additional money to put a tablet or Google Home speaker in there just to be able to control it either. If Google added a HUB to their product with an on-screen browser and a remote controller to use, this product would get a 5th star. For my guests, I had to get a FireTV stick to accommodate them as it is far simpler and less a hassle to get them up-and-running with their television viewing. I suppose I could have just taken the television out of that room and require them to interact with us instead of staying in the room.
GOOGLE NEEDS TO WORK HARDER AT MAKING LIFE SIMPLER! :)
A:AnswerThe previous one doesn't support 4K and UHD. It would only go upto 1080P. The Ultra is going to be a lot faster, processing-wise and streaming-wise. Another huge difference is the price. The previous one costs only $35 and the Ultra is double the price. If you have a 4K TV and got a lot of 4K content to watch, I'd recommend you go with the Ultra. But if not, then go with the regular $35 chromecast, which pretty much does the same job.
A:AnswerYou can use any Android or iOS smartphone and/or tablet. You download the Google Home app to make everything work.
As for what you can stream, that depends. First, your TV doesn't have to be Smart, but it must have a HDMI input. Next, whatever you want to "cast" to your tv must have that option available within the app. Apps such as Hulu, Netflix, NHL Center Ice, You Tube, etc, all have a cast option. You simply start watching on your phone, then hit the cast icon and boom, it is on your tv. Your phone/tablet screen can power off and the picture will still cast to your TV. You can even multitask and use your phone/tablet for other things while watching TV.
Pretty cool stuff.
A:AnswerThis is a digital media receiver. It will allow you to stream media such as photos, videos and live TV through an existing wireless Internet connection.
A:AnswerStep 1: Plug in your Chromecast device
Plug Chromecast into your TV, then connect the USB power cable to your Chromecast. Then either plug the other end of the USB power cable into an open USB port on your TV OR into the included power adapter which you will then plug into a power outlet. Note: Only use the provided AC adapter.
Step 2: Connect your Chromecast device
Double check that the Chromecast and the mobile device, tablet, or laptop you are using to set up Chromecast with are both on the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Download the Google Home app
On your mobile device, tablet, or laptop, download the Google Home app Chromecast cast icon
