John Hiatt and his three piece band, including Sonny Landreth, the quintessential slide guitarist of this age, went through his ample catalog of songs like sharing photos of his life Thursday night. Playing with dynamics when necessary, cranking it up when the song called for it, Hiatt and his longtime cronies put new life into his songs from decades ago. It was both an enjoyable experience for the audience as much as it was for the foursome.
It was GREAT seeing John Hiatt perform again - I've been a fan ever since hearing him on the radio ~30 years ago. I have seen him perform at least a dozen times, and have thoroughly enjoyed every performance. Whether he's alone and acoustic, or has The Goners with him, it's great! It was cool that Sonny Langreth was featured and did one of his own songs - his talents are extraordinary and were well-presented! Thanks, John, Sonny, and The Goners!!! Hope to see you again soon!! HoB is a great venue, but $13 (+tip?) for a 'tall-boy' can of beer is beyond expensive and rather insulting.
The John Hiatt show was fantastic, I was excited when I arrived to find the TBA became Charlie Shatner for the support act. John, Sonny, and the Goners were fantastic. The sight lines from the center balcony are great. The only problem is one I encounter at many venues that host a wide variety of genres, in the louder up tempo songs the low bass was over powering everything else. There was a supper low freq feedback that apparently every one could detect except the mixing engineer. It turned a perfect experience into a SUB Par evening. Having been to a few shows there before, including Hiatt, I am aware that it is not a room or equipment problem but was an engineer problem. It may have.been ok from the mix position but it was not good from row A center balcony.
Great Show .. Great Venue .. However, John's Vocal Needed To Be MORE Out Front In Mix .. Often Lost Clarity .. Old Soundman (Myself) Therefore Sometimes Over Critical .. Still, Most Folks Probably Didn't Even Notice ... Old Soundmen Never Stop Mixing! ;-)
John Hiatt and the Goners, featuring Sonny Landreth, put on a phenomenal show! They played all of John's hits with great enthusiasm and joy. Thank you John Hiatt for the music I've been enjoying for 35 years. Hope to see you and the Goners again soon!
Easy entry through security gates, all the seats seemed to have a view of the stage, great sound system, comfortable air conditioning in a relaxed atmosphere and best of all, great music!
The Carolina theater is a great venue and the staff was really friendly. John had a great set list which covered all his best. He sounds as good as ever. The Goners were on point and Sonny had some great slide guitar solos. Definitely worth the trip.
still writing songs and performing them as good, or better, than anyone has ever done it sonny and the goners are the perfect band to back him up absolutely fantastic show
John Hiatt rocked the music hall once again, and Sonny Landreth is incredible.
