The iRobot Roomba 680 Robot Vacuum is a wonder. It comes with a home base and extra filter which is a first since every vacuum I have owned never had a backup. After setting up the base, remove the plastic tabs and the battery so you can get the serial number to register the warranty. When the iRobot Roomba 680 charges for about 3 hours the light will change from red to green. Before use they recommend making sure there aren't any loose items or cords on the floor since this isn't Rosie from the Jetsons. I don't recommend this for a kids room with toys but it will do a great job cleaning kitchens, dining rooms & living rooms as long as you don't have throw rugs with tassels on them to get caught up.

You can either set a schedule to clean or just press the clean button to start it up. I recommend setting a day or time when you know people aren't walking around to avoid someone from walking around a corner and getting startled unexpectedly. It took the Roomba about 1/2 hour to finish its tour of duty so I scheduled it to start each day I work about an hour before I get home. You should empty the bin of debris after each cleaning and dust off the sensors to keep the Roomba accurate and functional which only takes a minute. If that is all I have to do to vacuum then I am happy!

Forget about vacuuming again!

You really don't understand how dirty your floors are until you use a product like this daily. I have a cat and I have been doing so much better with my allergy since this robot took over. Amazing how much hair and debris is on your floor and I sweep more than the average person. It's also not hard at all to operate and you do not need the app, just press clean. It will navigate around all your rooms and avoid the stairs too. You really do not understand how large this robot is and how much debris it can pick up during a cleaning cycle. The best invention yet and works so well. You can program to run at night and in the morning clean floors to wake up too. Would make a great gift.

Technology

The 680 was well packaged and was received with no damage. The instruction/owners manual was sparse in the IKEA vein with pictures, and referenced the web site. I registered it for warranty through the web site, and you need to remove the dirt bin to access the serial number. After plugging in the home base, you need to remove a yellow plastic pull tab to activate the battery. I ran into a problem when I placed the robot in the home base which announced a "Charging error 1." I went to the web site and figured out that when I pulled the yellow pull tab, I inadvertently displaced one of the spring contacts with the battery. I removed the plastic cover, and removed and re-installed the battery to solve the problem.
After charging up the battery, which will turn the battery indicator on the robot from red to green, I pushed the clean button for a test run. It ran around the living room, changing directions when it ran into an obstacle, with some noise, but much less than an upright or canister. I turned it off, and setup scheduling by pushing the appropriate buttons. There is a home button, and if you push that, it seeks the home base and starts charging. 
Although the unit is hefty and seems to be well-built, I had some reservations about how well it would vacuum/clean. It wanders through my home into different rooms and is not pleased with shoe strings or cords. You would be wise to follow the instructions to ensure the robot does not hang up on similar objects.
After the vacuum went through a full clean cycle, I went to empty the bin and was amazed at how much stuff it had picked up! This unit really does work, and I only have to dump the bin after cleaning and wipe it down. There are some additional maintenance tips for cleaning the wheels, but this is a keeper and will reduce dragging out the full-size vacuum every week. I fully recommend this unit.

Roomba 680 Vacuum Robot

My husband has wanted a Roomba for many years, but I never thought they would be helpful for us until we moved to a house with hardwood and tile floors. We also have a toddler and an elementary school aged child as well as two cats, so there is always crumbs, dirt, and cat hair all over the floors. Since I sweep or vacuum every day, I thought I would try out this Roomba. At first I was skeptical of its ability to clean properly given the relatively small brushes. However, I was really impressed with how well it cleaned up the cracker crumbs on the area rug. We have steps going down to our foyer, and it sensed the steps and cleaned right to the edge. It needed just a 3 hour charge before it was ready to start cleaning. I also like that you can set up the docking station in a corner of the house, and the Roomba automatically returns to dock once it has swept the whole floor. We left it running in the living room yesterday while we went out for dinner, and when we came back, the floor was all swept and looked great, and the Roomba was back charging in its dock. It is really very user friendly, and it even has the option to set up a cleaning schedule. This is super helpful for those with pets in the house. Overall, I recommend it for busy families, and it would probably be really great for older people who may find traditional vacuums too heavy.

Great household helper!

The iRobot Roomba 680 Robot Vacuum is a hard worker on both hard floors and carpet. Roomba excels at carpets! His low profile and excellent pre-programmed pattern of cleaning allowed him to easily scoot under beds and thoroughly clean entire carpeted bedrooms! He did not get “stuck” in the bedrooms; of course, I picked up potential trouble makers like waste paper baskets etc. I did not notice any “straining” at all when Roomba cleaned the carpets, as I noticed another robot cleaner I have does. Roomba also cleans hard floors but I noticed it has no special setting and it does not claim to sense the difference and accommodate the changed heights.
This model also has a “spot” cleaning mode which is very helpful. When pressed, it spirals outwards in a 3 feet circle and then it spirals inwards to where it started. I liked this feature on my area rugs that receive a lot of traffic. Roomba can also be programmed for automatic cleaning once a day up to 7 days per week.
One can purchase a virtual wall barrier to help contain Roomba or, as I did, one can use a box, sofa cushions etc to “fence him in.” One really must do that; otherwise Roomba goes too far afield, exploring distant lands, I mean, rooms! Lol! (Of course, doors are ideal). Roomba has a pretty good cliff sensor, and his sensors prevent the annoying bumping of other “bump and go” type robot vacuums. He is not unduly loud. Lastly, the dust bin and filter are easily accessed and cleaned. 
The one area Roomba has trouble with is corners, of course. He is round and corners are square. So I just took a damp paper towel at the end and wiped up the corners on tile or used a brush on carpet.
I especially loved how I could put him I the guest room by himself while I did other things, and voila! The carpet was freshly groomed for my guests!

Roomba 680 is a hard worker!

I wish I would have saved up for one of these a long time ago! Having a disability, 2 kids, a fiancé' and two dogs, the Roomba is mamas buddy! I love how I can program it to clean automatically, at the day, time and intervals that are convenient for me. Sweeping and vacuuming are very strenuous tasks with my disability. It causes me a lot of hip and back pain; not to mention fatigue. But with the Roomba, I just push the button twice or set the cleaning schedule and it does all the work. 
Keeping up with emptying the trash bin, filter, cleaning out the wheels, brushes, sensor etc. is super quick and easy as well. Before I thought this would become tedious and I might just rather sweep the floors but I was extremely wrong! The Roomba vacuums under tables without moving chairs, it goes from hardwood floor to tile, to carpet, without hesitation, and it finds dirt, dust, and debris even when I thought the floor was clean! It picks up pet hair better than anything I've seen before. Dirt detection is amazing! And when the Roomba finishes vacuuming it returns to base to charge up for the next time! The Roomba has saved me so much time, energy, and spared me from so much pain. I definitely would recommend it!!

My new best friend!

We have a chihuahua and a cat in a three bedroom house with a large bathroom and kitchen and an over 300 square foot sun room, one house away from a dirt road, all floors are vinyl, laminate or tile. It is not an exaggeration to say that I spend over $40/month on Swiffer wet and Swiffer dry pads, not to mention the time it takes to use them. I deliberately didn't sweep for three days in preparation for this Roomba review. It wasn't difficult to program (or at least I thought) but when the time came and passed without it starting up I pressed 'CLEAN' manually and watched it start. Let me say this...do not program it to run while you are sleeping and if you can avoid it, don't have it run when you are at home! Although it was good I was here for the test run, the floors were clear of obstacles but it managed to knock over the broom in front of the washer and dryer and get trapped there That aside; it is frustrating to watch it do the hall several times and the bathroom several times. The results don't lie, though, this cleaned the floors very well and took an hour and six minutes. I won't have to Swiffer dry often at all and it will also reduce the times I have to wet Swiffer! I am so happy with this. It is definitely a time and money saver!
