About

BEACH SLANG IN CONCERT:

Beach Slang play a devil-may-care brand of punk that’s sure to speak to anyone who’s ever broken the rules. The quartet of emo-tinged rockers reveal a penchant for reckless abandon in their music, which translates into a cathartic rush for ticket buyers whenever the group takes the stage. Frontman James Alex wears his heart on his sleeve, filtering his angst into raging anthems like “All Fuzzed Out”, “Dirty Cigarettes”, and “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas”.  Punk fans are turning out in force to feel the emotional release and undeniable energy of Beach Slang’s passionate rallying cries on their 2015 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Beach Slang came out of nowhere in 2014, but they’re actually an unlikely supergroup of underground Philly punks. After recording five celebrated emo-punk albums through the ‘90s and ‘00s with local scene heroes Weston, vocalist/guitarist James Alex is more than qualified to lend his voice to disenfranchised youth in this new project. Drummer JP Flexner (Ex-Friends), bassist Ed McNulty (Crybaby), and guitarist Ruben Gallego have joined forces with Alex, adding a muscular power to his songs. After releasing two critically praised EPs in 2014 -- Cheap Thrills On A Dead End Street followed by Who Would Ever Want Something So Broken? -- Beach Slang generated even more buzz with a rigorous touring schedule across the US. While they continue to win fans over with their unbridled live performances, Beach Slang thrilled fans and critics alike with the 2015 release of their debut album The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us.

Fun, energetic, new but like a blast from the past

by MDArockstar on 5/22/16The Sinclair - Cambridge

Beach Slang is like a breath of fresh air. There songs are a new take on the old 90's alternative. They seemed to get even better as the night went on and added even more fun with a few covers of old songs from Nirvana to Rick Springfield. I really enjoyed it. The sound system at the Sinclair wasn't the best, but they sounded just fine despite that fact.

by Nanopico on 4/28/16Triple Rock Social Club - Minneapolis

Here's i a band that sings the songs that we all need to hear. The sound track for lives that may be hitting hard times but giving hope that things are pretty cool. Their live performances are great, full of emotion, humor and awesome rocking out.

The return of Beach Slang to MPLS.

by BurtTheRevReynolds on 4/28/16Triple Rock Social Club - Minneapolis

It was the return trip to Minnesota for the guys of Beach Slang. After blowing the doors off in Sept. at the Turf, expectations were very high for this Beach Slang show. The guys delivered and made it a successful evening. Playing all there fan favorite songs, two new songs and some frenzy inducing Replacements songs, the doors were gone again. The energy and crowd interaction are amazing with Beach Slang. I told James in September that big things were going to happen for them and things really took off after that. There is more success to come for the crew of Beach Slang. There new adoptive home of Minnesota is already waiting for them to come back.

    Beach Slang a must see

by Rickdiculous on 4/28/16Triple Rock Social Club - Minneapolis

Beach Slang isn't just another band filling in the gap of punk/alternatives for fans of the Replacements and Husker Du, they picked up the mantle and run with it. Making the genre their own and putting on one of the most dynamic, personal, and exciting guitar poetry assaults you can see anywhere. Go see this band. Go buy the record even if you don't own a record player. My favorite show so far this year.

Hosted in the Purgatory section this intimate venue really brought alive the soulfulness of this punk rock band. Beach Slang deserves all the praise it receives and more. I got to hang out with the lead singer, James, prior to his going on stage and he's such a down to earth guy with a heart of gold and that shines through in his music. It's honest, raw, and pure. Highly, highly recommend this band to anyone looking for a breath of fresh air.
