Hello David. Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Arctic King 8000 BTU, Model No. WPPD08CW0N. The unit does have a drain pan installed at the bottom that needs to be emptied when full. However, you can connect a standard garden hose to the upper drain plug behind the unit to take advantage of the unit's continuous draining feature. This feature allows you to use the unit continuously without having to manually empty the drain pan.

The unit can be drained via both methods, either through the bottom drain which is design for a manual drain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a room in my house that stays hot no matter what we do. We installed this portable air conditioner as the solution. So far it's doing an amazing job cooling the room and keeping it cool. The installation process took maybe 30 minutes and I feel the sealing of the window will keep both hot air/insects out. It is both effective and aesthetically pleasing with great features. We love the WiFi capabilities and the remote because it's super convenient. One of my favorite features with this until is the "follow me" feature. Its hard to explain but it basically runs the unit until the temperature where you are in the room matches the temperature where the main unit is. I also don't feel like the output of noise is anything more than what your whole house air conditioner does. The unit overall has so many features and capabilities you really can't go wrong.

I absolutely love my new Artic King portable air conditioner! I do have central air in my house, and since I live alone, I have always thought that it was a waste of energy to run the central air low enough at night covering the entire house, to cool just me, in one room. This new Artic King solves that problem. The unit itself weighs almost 70 pounds so getting it in the front door by myself was a challenge. I knew I would not be able to lift the unit out of the box, so I used a box cutter and cut the boxes down the sides. Since the unit already come with the wheels attached, all I had to do was roll it out of the box. Assembly was extremely easy with only a couple of connections and very clear instructions with pictures. The unit comes with panels that are used to adjust to your size of window, either hung or slider from 26.5” up to 48”. The panel can also be cut down for even smaller windows. I was able to place the unit near the window and complete the installation, all by myself. I turned the unit on and was amazed at how much cool air it was putting out. There are so many adjustments you can make to this unit from temperature to air flow to fan speed. With the included remote, you don't even need to go to the unit to change a setting. An app is available that allows you to control the unit from your smartphone as well. If you have a smart assistant like Google Home or Alexa, you can also use that as well. All I had to do was download the app for the Artic King, and link it with my Alexa. Now all I have to do is tell Alexa to turn the unit on. It is simply amazing how many ways you can control this unit. The Artic King portable air conditioner can also be used as a dehumidifier, or just a fan. I am very impressed with this Artic King and would not hesitate to recommend this to everyone.

Powerful!

I do a lot of work in the garage and in the summer the best I have been able to do is open up the garage doors for some air, which is still hot air coming in. I had enough last year so I am really happy to have this portable ac unit. It's seriously powerful and it says for medium rooms which works well in the garage because it's one closed off space. I don't think this is powerful enough to cool an open floor plan house or apartment but for any closed room in the house it'll work. Being able to adjust the temp and turn off the ac from my iPhone is a great benefit in the case where I go in the house and get caught up doing something else (which happens often), I can still turn the unit off. It's heavy but I can carry it by myself with the handles. It sits on coasters for easy rolling around.

Powerful unit with all the bells and whistles

This is the best AC I've ever had the pleasure of owning. 
It's cool looking quite running works very well and it's 
easy to use. It's also wifi compatible and I can turn it on 
while I'm at work so its cool when I get home and I don't 
have to leave it running while I'm gone. It took me a little 
bit to set up the wifi but finally got it and love having it.
Will most likely get another one for other rooms. It also 
turns completely off instead of running constantly when 
the compressor kicks off after a few seconds. So if you're 
needing a great AC for a medium sized room this one will 
be a great PURCHASE. LOVEING THIS AC
