This is a super cheap wifi camera that has a monthly fee for all the good features. Without the monthly fee the camera will be extremely limited and probably not worth having for anything except the live view and maybe using a memory card? The app is pretty good and seems to be getting updated regularly. My phone can quickly connect for live view, or easily look through the last week or two of recordings. The paid features make it super easy to sort through and find only recordings of "people" (ai recognition) instead of watching through all the false triggers.
Camera quality itself is what you would expect of the cheapest wifi camera you can find. Everything is clear on a phone until you try to zoom in, then its pretty low quality. You probably can't recognize a face from more than 10 feet away. The framerate/bitrate is low so anything moving will have motion blur. Night vision is surprisingly good, but suffers from even more motion blur and lack of detail. That all sounds bad, but I only expected this camera to show me a basic image. If something happened you would still be able to tell if it's someone you know, or have a basic general description and recording of the event. If I wanted to have a super clear mugshot of someone, I would get a 4k IP camera.
Motion detection is also surprisingly good. It picks up everything. I had to turn down the sensitivity. It even does a pretty good job of knowing when a "person" is in the video and labels it correctly. You can set the detection zone, but only with a single resize-able four sided area. Recording starts right when the movement begins, with no obvious delay usually.
Cloud recording, my favorite part, is pretty seamless. I have only had a handful of problems where I get an error that the video didn't upload correctly. It has stayed connected to my Wifi, and I've only had one experience where I had to power cycle it because it stopped recording. I like that you can just set the camera and forget it, and everything it detects is being uploaded to the cloud. This was my main reason for this type of camera, as I don't have any standalone storage solution, and wanted protected recordings even if the camera were stolen.
Cons:
- When the camera switches over to night vision there is an audible click. This might bother some. It does this even if the IR lights are turned off permanently, as there is some type of physical filter used for night vision. You could also completely disable night vision mode manually; but then wouldn't be able to see much in the dark.
- Audio quality. I use this in a window pointing out, so obviously it can't hear much. But what I have heard from inside the room is pretty terrible and hard to understand.
- Cord length. They only give you like a 6 foot cord, severely limiting placement without buying another.
- Only having a 4 sided box to choose motion detection area is limited. For example, I cut out the horizon, but id also like to cut out a bush that moves in the wind nearer to the camera, but I can't.
So in summary - In my experience its a great cheap wireless cloud camera. So far it's been reliable and even if it dies i'd probably still think it was worth 25 bucks. I just ordered another for the other side of my house.
I originally purchased my former Withings Home camera as a way to watch my son sleep in his crib. The unit failed twice while I owned it along with a slew of connectivity issues early on - as well as it constantly asking me to set it up again. The failed camera ended up being the power supply each time, including the setup issues. I was going to expand that system as they're beautiful looking cameras, but realized that I'd have to shell out a lot more money for cameras I'd already had a rough go with. So I decided to try something different.
First of all, the packaging for Wyze was compact and beautiful. These camera packages are small enough to fit into a Christmas stocking as a stocking stuffer, should you be reading this review just before the holidays. The packaging itself was super clean and, quite honestly, very "Apple-like". The boxes are a clean white, with medium gray text. The space inside the box has little wasted room. It came with the camera, the built in mount already attached, a USB power supply, a micro-USB cord, a metal disk, and some 3M adhesive. These were crazy easy to install. Just setup a Wyze account (pro-tip: do that while you're awaiting your package to arrive) via your mobile app (iOS or Android). Once that's ready, plug in the camera to power it on and hold down the setup button. It'll speak to you when it's in setup mode. From there, follow the instructions in the app to setup a new camera. It'll show a QR code on your device to hold in front of the camera. Once the camera captures the QR code, it'll speak to you and let you know. That's pretty much it. The only other thing I did was install 32GB microSD cards into the bottom of the camera. I bought Samsung ones (Class 10, 32GB) as they were on sale below even Wyze's 32GB microSD price.
No tools were necessary, what so ever. As I said before, they come with some (creative) mounting hardware. First you get a metal, demagnetized disk and a doughnut shaped piece of 3M tape. Find the best place to install your camera and fix the metal disk to the most ideal surface you want your camera to rest on using the doughnut shaped double-sided tape it came with. This could be either a vertical surface, like a wall, dresser, or something else like a hutch. Or you could fix the disk to the top of something else, like a counter top, shelf, or dresser. The camera itself has a built-in pivotable stand that has a magnet built in. Once you've mounted your metal disks, just let the magnet of the camera grab the metal surface and the camera is successfully mounted with no tools needed. The cameras can be manually moved and positioned to serve your needs best.
Yes, these are 1080P cameras. By default, they load up as SD (480P). When you open up the camera's "live stream," there is a little button above the top left of the picture (iOS app, as of 11/20/2018). If you tap that button that reads "SD," you'll get three options: "360p," "SD," or "HD". Once you've changed that setting, you'll be at 1080P. For anyone who's reading all the reviews, this camera does a lot that people are slamming it for not being able to do. You honestly have to browse around the app to see how deep the functionality goes.
One of the features I love is the motion alert settings. I can focus a camera towards my son's crib and set a custom motion zone around the crib during a certain time frame. For me, that was my son's usual nap window in the afternoon. What's nice about that is that other things that 'could be' (but shouldn't be) happening in the bedroom, such as my own nap in the day bed, don't set off an alert. I can set a zone within the camera's frame to watch, and it does a great job pushing notifications to my phone when it sees activity. It also can listen for smoke and CO² alarms to push notifications to my phone. I luckily haven't needed that feature yet, but I'm excited that my dumb environmental detectors just received some smart assistance ...especially at this price point.
The night vision is excellent. My old Withings Home cam did a good job with night vision as well, but was a bit grainy. I didn't even notice that much, and just appreciated it for what it could do. After all, night vision on any camera works better than my eyes alone. But Wyze's cams have superior night vision. The imagery is crystal clear with no grainy visual noise present.
As for the sound quality, that could be a bit better. But again, for cams that have a starting price of $20, who am I to complain, really? The sound works. I can use my phone to traumatize my son into laying back down by speaking into the app. Pretty funny, actually. He listens.
After throwing down for 3 cameras that ended up being much less expensive that 1 Withings Home, I also bought the SquareTrade warranties to go with them. Why not, right? I don't know if these things are going up in price and the warranties cover 4 years. These are lightweight cameras and perhaps they won't be able to stand the test of time. So it was better to be safe than sorry. I'll probably get a 4th and 5th one soon enough as well to show the garage and the kitchen. But ultimately, these are amazing personal WiFi cameras I cannot recommend more. My only gripe is that I wish they were HomeKit compatible as I'm not a fan of Alexa's laggy services.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 20, 2020
The good:
They work very well and were quite easy to set up. Two cameras will not read the memory cards, which is a manufacturing issue, so they are replacing those cameras. This is good, not bad, as it shows very good customer service. In fact, Wyze contacted me to check my cams to see if they were possibly the series of bad manufacturing.
I like the fact these cameras are very affordable and easy to set up. The video quality is quite good in daylight. The night-time infrared is OK, but could be a bit better as the range is only about 10 feet, which is not ideal when a camera is mounted outside. But, compared to my other cams, this is good still.
The app is easy to manage the cams and keep and eye on things. Cameras are not too large and housings and longer cables are affordable, which I like.
The Bad:
Setting up the motion sensitivity has been a challenge. The camera's don't actually detect motion. They detect a change in pixels, so anything that changes the image triggers the motion sensor. For example. If you have sunlight in the image and the sunlight or shadow created by sunlight changes, then you get a motion trigger.
They have the ability to detect human motion or people, which is more ideal and reduces false alarms from shadows and sunlight, but I have been having troubles getting that working on some cameras. I suspect it is software related. Also, if the motion starts with a light being flicked on, it registers as motion, even though a person enters the room after flicking the light on, which should actually register as a person motion trigger.
The camera's come with free cloud storage, which is unique as not many offer that, however, the storage is only 12 seconds of video. This would not be a major problem if you continued to get 12 seconds of storage throughout the motion or sound triggers, but unfortunately you only get 12 seconds every five minutes. This is not ideal. If somebody comes in your yard, you get the first 12 seconds of motion recording, but while that person is roaming around your yard you have no further recording until five minutes later. That is what you truly lose when you get cameras at this price. My Arlo cams, much more expensive, include one week of unlimited cloud recording. The Wyze cams include 14 days of 12-seconds (every five minutes) recording.
So, in the end those recordings are only helpful to notify you that motion or sound is triggering your camera. This is OK, sort of, but only if you have a memory card in your camera that will allow you to go and see all the action you missed. The 12-second notification and recording basically lets you know your camera sensed something and now you need to look at your camera’s complete (memory card) recording to see what else went down, what else was recorded but not in the cloud.
So, make sure you get the memory card and make sure you set it to record at all times, then you won’t miss anything. You get about three days worth of recording on a 32 GB card, then the recording loops (assuming you set your cam up this way) and you just need to ensure you check all your triggers to ensure you don’t lose a recording of something important.
The audio is not great, but works well enough.
Are there better cameras? Yes. Are they this affordable? No. Nowhere near as affordable or easy to set up. Also, with Wyze you can add other key pieces to the system, such as lights, motion and contact sensors. And, once again, all very affordable and easily added to your system for the Wyze app.
Ultimately, this is a pretty damn good security option at a very affordable price. As long as you have a memory card and self-monitor you can manage your monthly security at no extra cost. Also, suggest you set your camera up for people triggers, not motion triggers, to eliminate the multitude of triggers not related to people, but you will miss the triggers from your cat, dog or other wildlife.
