Lot of Settings For Little Spendings!(Use * key to enter symbols/#'s when entering wifi password!)
Size: I don't know why it's considered small. It's actually bigger than my last printer but it's a good size Setup: Getting this up and running for me was an all day process but the fault was my own. I spent hours trying to breeze through it with no luck but had I taken the time to read, I would have save myself a lot of time and a minor headache. Installing the download provided for PC and the app provided for smartphone is essential. If the directions are followed and in order, there's no reason why this item shouldn't be up and running and ready to perform any task via any connection within maybe aa quickly as 15 min. An hour tops depending on your PCs installation speed I suppose. But it's a fairly quick process if done correctly. USB: Mine did not come with a USB plus, luckily I was able to use my old one but once hooked up it worked with no problems WiFi: Works Flawlessly from both phone and laptop but was difficult setting up since you have to enter your WiFi password into the printer settings and there are NO instructions on how to enter Numbers, symbols or capital letters. I had to just play around with it til I figured it out while keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't create an irreversible error in the process. (The star key pressed before each button will allow numbers, symbols and caps. Have to press multiple times in some cases to reach desired character) Also for phones, you have to use the app provided. Which works just fine as well. Sound: I've seen a few complaints about how noisy and loud this printer is but there is actually a quiet setting which you can turn on permanently or even set to only have it on during hours of your choice. Paper Jam/Ink Problems: I have not experienced any paper jams or ink issues and I have printed quite a few documents AND images from phone AND laptop via WiFi AND usb using black ink AND color. I notice most paper Jam complaints later notice it's an easy fix and also upon arrival it seemed it could have been quite easy to damage if not handle carefully straight out the box. Price: As I write this review this product is currently going for $55.24. I purchased mine a few days ago for $34.99 so I'm glad I bought it when I did. I see a lot of printers being sold used for $20 but without ink. Add the ink and the total becomes at LEAST $35+ for a USED item! So for $34.99-a brand new, refundable, well known brand name product, with both ink cartridges included, and all of it's functions and capabilities, I'd say this is a steal! Scan: Incredible/Instant Print: Flawless/Fast Copy: Spectacular/Speedy Fax: Unused/Unknown All in all after reading the negative reviews I am very glad that I geared more toward the positive ones. Electronics are generally built to fail at some point so even if in the end this printer begins to encounter problems, I'll simply take comfort in the fact that I only spent $34.99 on a name brand product that performed many functions and offered multiple connection methods as well as a varitey of additional settings. Having this device almost makes the fact that my last printer abruptly stopped working a bit exciting. This one does much more, looks much nicer and is far more advanced. Fax, copy, print, scan, wifi connection, usb connection, PC, tablet and phone usage. I'm not sure what more one could ask for from a printer....especially at $34.99.

This is an update on my previous review. My printer started having paperfeed problems. As in paper would not feed. I called Amazon Customer Service, had a delightful chat w a youg lady there, she confirmed I was within warranty and gave me the number for Canon. I spoke to the technical department at Canon, and after exploring all the possible problems The technical department decided to send a replacement. Wow. I am so pleased by Canon's & Amazon's cusomer service.

This is a fine printer for at home, where you might only print your kid's homework, the occasional downloaded pattern or a form you need to fill out and mail, or if your kid did some artwork in a computer program that they want to print out and keep, or you want to print out some photos to share or scrapbook or what have you. It doesn't hold a lot of paper, so if you want a printer to print out all of your wedding invitations on, no, this is not for you. If you're going to print out all your Christmas cards, it depends on how many people are on your Christmas card list. More than 50, I would say probably not. It does a fine job with everything I've given it to do, but I haven't asked for more than 5 pages at a time, and that is plenty right now. Our kid is off at college, and my husband does his printing at the office, so it is just recipe cards, the occasional photo, and a letter or two. I plan to do some scanning, because there's stuff to share with the family that is only on paper right now. It will be nice once everybody has a digital copy. I was really annoyed about getting a new printer, because the last one cost me $200 and we had barely used it and the ink was so $%&^* expensive all the time. It was nice to pay less than $100 but I did check around and see who charged what for ink this time because I did not want to have to take money out of the grocery budget to buy ink every time lol. I did not buy the cheapest printer because the cheap one was highway robbery on ink, you check it out. I have a mac. I did not have too much difficulty with setting up my computer once I got all my software updates for my OS done. You just go to the Canon website and you can download whatever you need. Just remember to spell Canon right. I kept typing in Cannon and getting the wrong website. So there you go, learn from my mistakes!

Firstly, I would like to say that this printer has gotten a lot of poor ratings based upon the installation process alone. Having just installed it myself (on a laptop and phone), I can assure you that installation is fairly simple, so long as you READ the instructions and pay attention to the little arrows that help guide you to the pertinent steps based upon how you will be using the device. The first process is to physically set-up the printer, plug it in, turn it on and install the ink. The second step involves setting the printer up for either wireless or wired connectivity. When you reach the end of this step, the printer will be recognized by your computer, but will be unable to print because the drivers and software have not yet been installed on your device - the setup instructions at this point refer you to another instruction booklet which is found in the plastic bag of paperwork that came with your printer. This 2nd installation guide then takes you through the steps involved in installing the required software into your chosen devices. For a computer, this requires either going online and downloading the software or using the provided CD. For a phone, it requires downloading the app. Both downloads will then guide you through the remaining installation. Again, all you have to do is to take you time and read (and don’t get flustered by all the options you are given, just follow the arrows and read/follow the instructions YOU need to, based upon what device you are going to print from). I followed all the instructions and had the phone working in a couple minutes. The computer took a bit longer due to the lengthy download. Software and device seem fine. I have been using Canon printers for quite some time and have never had problems. This one seems to be a nice little printer for those who will not be doing a large amount of printing (If you plan to, buy a model that has separate color cartridges as you will save a bundle on ink in the long haul and will usually get better print quality). This was purchased as a replacement for a stand alone scanner that gave up the ghost and will not see much printing action (I use a laser printer for most of that). As with all reviews, feel free to take this one with a ‘grain of salt’; I have been messing with this kind of thing personally and professionally for some time and have installed a lot of printers. This was not hard to do and, I think, can be done by anyone who can both read and comprehend at the same time. I do not expect any problems with this printer, but will certainly update this review if some should arise. If this review is not updated, take that to mean that all is going well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, inexpensive printer/scanner for occasional use.
Reviewed in Canada on September 28, 2018
I've had this printer for a few days now and it is a great little printer for the price. I've only used the wireless print and scan functionality. Haven't tried the fax function and probably won't since I don't have a landline. The wireless was a bit of a pain to set up on my Lenovo laptop for some reason, it was a breeze on my husband's HP laptop. Instructions that come with the printer are not that useful, but you can find more info online on the set-up CD, Canon's website or YouTube. Once it is set up, it works just great. The print quality is a lot better than what you'd expect for a printer that basically sells for the price of an ink cartridge. I'd recommend this machine for anyone who does occasional printing/scanning. I think you'd probably want something more robust if you're running a busy home office. It's not speedy but it does a decent job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works with iPhone 6s, but setup might be too complicated for less experienced Mac users.
Reviewed in Canada on March 9, 2017
Original review date: March 9th 2017

Setup is a bit complicated if you're on an Apple device. I'm more techy than most, so if you get frustrated easily... maybe have someone help you.
I set this up using the Canon app associated via my iPhone. No issues there, I was able to print from my iPhone 6s easily.

It's setting it up with my Mac Air that has been a pain in the butt!! Firstly, it took downloading and running the .dmg setup file a few times for it to actually open a setup menu (the first couple times, clicking on the icon did nothing but I kept re-downloading the .dmg file until it worked). Eventually, I got the setup menu to run. However, the second issue, in order for you to even finish setup in its entirety, you are required to connect your Mac to the printer but there was no additional cord and/or USB 2.0 adapter for me to actually do so. You can buy these on Amazon, thank goodness - Ugreen USB 2.0 High Speed 480Mbps Printer Scanner Cable Cord A Male to B Male for HP, Canon, Lexmark, Epson, Dell, Xerox, Samsung etc, 5ft/1.5m.

I just ordered one so I won't be able to update for a couple days. I have a feeling it will work, but I might have to also use my thunderbolt / HDMI adapter - VicTsing Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable, High Resolution 4Kx2K Thunderbolt Mini Displayport DP to HDMI HDTV Adapter Cable For Apple MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Microsoft Surface Pro, ThinkPad X1,etc - since I find installs often don't work if you use a USB port on a Mac Air (at least on mine, anyway - I have to connect directly to the thunderbolt port and not a USB port whenever I want to install something extra, like a printer). If that ends up being the case, I'll update my review.

      Quick next day update:

It's still working with the app but I just wanted to add that I bought the printer + ink bundle and was surprised to see the printer already came with ink (black and colour). I don't mind having extra on hand, though, just wanted to point that out.

      Update: March 11th 2017

I was correct in needing the additional USB 2.0 cable cord in order to run the installation on my Mac Air, what I did not need was the thunderbolt adapter though. It worked by plugging into the USB port next to the thunderbolt port. I stand by my original review in that I think this printer is very PC user-friendly, but a bit of an ordeal for Apple products. If I was someone with zero knowledge on adapters and add-on cable cords, this would be very difficult to set up.

I hope this helps confused Apple users.

      Very pleased with this printer.

I hooked it up with a USB-B cable so cannot comment on the wireless setup or other capability.

There was a bit of confusion on setup: I plugged it in, fired it up, Windows went bink-bonk, then nothing. Didn't realize for a few heartbearts that I needed to confirm the action on the printer itself. Once that was done, off I went - That was it, everything works great.

I find the fit/finish/feel to be a step above other manufacturers printers. I don't get that plastic-on-plastic grinding noise of some other printers, and I think Canon has good value.

      So far no regrets

When I bought this to help with my mother's home business I didn't really expect too much. I figured it would just be a simple old plug-and-play printer.

Other than a single problem swapping it from a wireless configuration to a wired one this printer has worked flawlessly. Ink is relatively cheap and I have yet to have this jam or malfunction.

      Pros:
      Easy to set up

      Cons:
Basically need to reinstall if you swap it from one setup to another.
