Lake Louise is a beautiful picturesque area of Banff that is easily accessible off the Trans Canada not far from Calgary airport.
The town has limited accommodations and during peak season can be difficult to secure a room, so book early.
During the winter months the proximity of the town to the ski resorts is great, and the Moraine Lake snowshoe hike is beautiful.
For a closer and more convenient experience, skating and walking on Lake Louise is an amazing experience, and with the Chateau ice bar at your disposal, a perfect way to enjoy nature without needing to venture off the beaten path.
The Lake Louise Inn has a wonderful full service restaurant that serves some off the chart, top notch pizza's with local brews if that's your way to enjoy it.
Breakfast is available at most of the hotels I've stayed in, inquire when booking, it may be included with your stay.
Summer, well, it's busy...! Be prepared too wait in lineups, and book your spot for the tour bus to the lake early.

We did not realise that their was a shuttle bus to the ski resort. This would have been great for us, as the walk from the car park to the ski area is a considerable distance if you do not get there early.

I love Lake Louise, it is beautiful!
I love Lake Louise, it is beautiful! The village has a lot to offer any level tourist/traveler. There are plenty of restaurants and shops to choose from. The prices are quite high and really do need to be reduced in the tourist shops. It has world class skiing and unmatched natural beauty.

Amazing place to visit even in Winter (late Nov), all the christmas decorations were up, we still walked 1/2 way around the lake. Fairmont Chateu upgraded us to top floor lake view room, we watched the sun come up over Lake Louise....that was very special. Not much else to do in Lake Louise at winter if you don't ski. Lake Louise Village is nothing. Bow Valley Parkway is just beautiful. Do Johnston Canyon but definitely need cleats if there is snow on the ground as the paths become very slippery. Try get there at 10am or before as less people. By lunch time it is very busy.

The views are awesome so draws hordes of people.
The views are awesome so draws hordes of people. Found it to be extremely crowded. Must travel by bus to Lake Morraine and if you drive to Lake Louise, expect to pay $20 for parking. Free after 7:00 PM.

Give in and book the shuttle bus at least a few days ahead.
Give in and book the shuttle bus at least a few days ahead. Either that or plan on driving up to the lake before 8am - probably before 7am in July or August - if you hope to be able to park at the lake. Actually, book the shuttle bus anyway, even if you're going to try and park.
Really bad news is that there is a lack of publicly accessible facilities at the lake. Given how much the Chateau Lake Louise has been allowed to expand over the years, there really should be publicly accessible restaurants.
As for the scenery, well it is still a pretty place but with the glaciers almost gone it doesn't compare to what it was even 30 years ago. There are more beautiful places to go in Canada.
Location is great. You can have great mountain views from the hotel grounds. Please notice that this hotel is scattered among several buildings that you need to walk outdoor from one to the other. Our room was in a different building from the main building with the swimming pool, restaurant, check in and so on. Meaning that if you went to the pool, you had to walk back to your room outdoors.
Dinner was very good. Breakfast is either buffet or menu, per your choice, also was good. Free parking.
Room is very cosy and nice.
The Hostel staff was friendly and helpful when checking in, giving us good suggestions when we asked for hikes to do. It was easy to find our room as well and we liked the location for visiting Lake Louise. The bathroom was clean and always available when I needed it. The restaurant in the hostel was amazing and was fairly priced. It was too busy to eat at for our one night for dinner, but not too busy for breakfast thankfully. I think if you are familiar with hostel stays, this is a great option.
We loved our night at Mountaineer Lodge which is very close to the Information Centre & Village shops, though Lake Louise would be about an hour’s walk.
Everything is good quality from the large, clean newly renovated room & array of toiletries to the breakfast included in room price. There is a wide variety of breakfast food which is continually filled up - even vegan muffins! 😋 The staff were friendly & helpful. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Our queen pet friendly suite (we didn’t bring pets) was renovated with modern furnishings and amenities. The bed was comfortable and it was great to have a sitting area and microwave/refrigerator/sink. The hot tub room was beautifully cedar panelled and clean. The lodge is in a perfect location for everything Lake Louise has to offer. Breakfast was hardy and a great start to a day of skiing. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is set in a beautiful location with great access to the village. It is also easy to walk to Lake Louise from the Prost hotel (4km up hill).
The hotel feels very comfortable and the staff and great.
The rooms are big and the beds are really comfy. I also like that they all have balcony’s.
The post pub is also great - good food and selection of beverages.
Budget price you could find in area in travel peak season, compare hundreds dollars hotels and lodge surrounding. This one is choice for your budget for solo traveler, saved my money.
Kitchen is big and clean, complete kitchen ware for cook.
Lake Louise Village is not big, it's close to village center, walkable to grocery and shops.
The hotel was lovely with good facilities and we had an excellent meal in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beds were big and very comfortable. It was the perfect location for us, but Lake Louise isn't within easy walking distance - it's around a 15min car drive.
we totally loved staying here for the first night of our honeymoon as we got married at lake Louise the day before. Fairmont spoiled us, upgraded our room with one with a wonderful view of the lake, gave us bubbles and chocolates and treated us to desert at dinner! Thankyou so much
Great place to stay to see a unique treasure -Moraine Lake - without all the daytime crowds around. Nice cabins with wood fires and lovely views. The food was first class and although the accomodation is expensive, dinner was reasonably priced and a cooked breakfast is included.
Fantastic location deep in the park between Lake Louise and Banff. Cabins perched in idyllic spot on river, surrounded by peaks and forest. Fire pits by the river were a hit with the family, with logs supplied free and forks to toast smores. What more can you ask for!
Very cozy and rustic place. Perfect location for our road trip to Jasper. I liked how the rooms were small cabins near the main cabin with the fireplace and the kitchen. The toilets were outside but they were super clean. Bring a head flashlight for nighttime.
The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Easy check in and check out. Cabins were very comfortable and provided all the basic necessities for cooking. Gas grills outside were a nice touch. Absolutely beautiful location and convenient to Lake Louise.
A great location on the way to Lake Louise. We never drove to the Lake, we just walked the twenty minutes. The Cabins were very comfortable. The kitchen was so nice we cooked several meals in the cabin and then ate on our deck.
Location is very good that is only 4 minites by drive to Lake Louise. And they also provide private shattle reservation to Lake Moraine! Staff in this hotel are very kind and friendly.
The Lake Louise Inn is a nice spot, but the Murphy beds, which are in many rooms, are not as comfortable as a typical bed. I also tend to be a touch short. Not a big deal for the kids.
The location was amazing,- couple minutes walk to Lake Louise!
The dinner at the restaurant was great!
Also, we enjoyed the rooftop hot tub even though it got very crowded
Staying at the Post Hotel is immersing yourself in luxury. It's an experience more than a stay and it brings back memories of winter holidays in Austria. Wonderful!
