No power monitoring. ZigBee not threadVerified ReviewerOther plugs will also offer power usage stats.2
It breaks after about 12 months useVerified ReviewerI’ve 6 of these and three of them broke at the 14 moth mark with a flashing light and no longer connects. Looks like a hardware issue and a google search found lots of people with the same issue. I tried returning the last one to IKEA on the basis it was not fit for purpose but they refused. 1
Still going after all these yearsVerified ReviewerBeen using these for several years to control various devices (mostly lighting) using SmartThings and more recently Home Assistant. For what they cost they are pretty good value for money. OK, they would be better with power monitoring and a manual switch but I guess not at the current price.5
Far too bulky and no power measurementVerified ReviewerFor the size of this mahoosive Zigbee socket, you would think they would have included power monitoring so that you could know how many watts it is consuming and how many it has consumed over the last 24hrs, the current voltage, amperage, etc. But no. This is just a simple relay operated by Zigbee. Thanks for nothing, IKEA. I could get a pack of crappy Chinese Wifi switches for less, no need to get a hub to make it work, and they're more compact. These are also made in China so the quality would've been the same. You should make a smaller version 2.0 with power monitoring capability, but keep the Zigbee/Matter compatibility. Without power monitoring this doesn't really help to understand usage and how to save money.1
Let there be lightVerified ReviewerGreat way of turning on the lights, set up to come on automatically or use the remote.5
Stopped working just after a year - couldn't replace it :(Verified ReviewerStopped working almost after a year so after it's warranty and couldn't change it.2
Great solutionVerified ReviewerNice plain profile, didn’t take up more than one plug space. Bit fiddly to set up but works well4
A bit expensive but worth it.Verified ReviewerI use these with switch and I integrate them into Google home so I have the best of both worlds. I use them to turn on light, fans, etc. The Ikea android app could be better but overall they deliver a good product that works well.5
Very handyVerified ReviewerI bought few of these at the beginning of 2020 and now before Christmas I bought 3 more. Had trouble adding them into the Ikea app with the remote. However after resetting and pairing the remote again, I was able to add them very easily. They make my life easier with all the automation. Haven't had any issues with them until a week ago when 2 became unreachable. Wasn't able to switch off the lights from my phone or voice. Finally after switching the sockets off for few seconds and switching them back on, they came back to life and no problem since. Bit worrying though if I was away on a holiday and the plugs become unreachable, the lights (or other appliances) will stay turned on the whole time. Hope it was just the one off... Otherwise very happy with them, the price is a great value5
Does what it says onVerified ReviewerDoes what it says on the box.5
Excellent Zigbee Smart PlugVerified ReviewerExcellent addition to my home automation, pairs with my Hubitat hub with no issues (after a reset). My only minor issue is there is no way of switching it on and off from the plug itself.5
Works with SmartThingsVerified ReviewerYou don’t need a Gateway or any steering device as these work natively with the SmartThings hub. I have a SmartThings hub with various smart items from different manufacturers. These outlets are brilliant and pair locally with the SmartThings hub - no Ikea gateway required.5
Great value for moneyVerified ReviewerWork perfectly with a Conbee-II and Deconz via Home Assistant. At this price they're hard to beat!5
Simple to use & works brilliantly with Philips HueVerified ReviewerThe socket was easy to set up with the Ikea hub and remote switch, but it was also very easy to add to my existing Philips Hue network - although the unit appeared as an on/off lamp, rather than an accessory socket as I expected. Once added to the Hue system, it could be controlled and scheduled as any other device, and added to rooms and scenes like a Hue product, and will also appear on the Alexa app if you have an Echo or similar device. These sockets are around a third of the cost of the Philips versions, making them a great alternative, and this allows you to use them without the Ikea hub if you already have an existing Hue system at home.5
Verified ReviewerGreat product works well.5
No longer working, Hard reset does not workVerified ReviewerHave 2 of these, both initially connected to Trader hub no issues. Then one started to drop off almost everyday. Needed just a mains switch reboot to reset & then worked fine. Then that wouldn't work and the other control outlet dropped from Hub not seen for 3 days. I have done hard reset on both then tried pairing with remote which seems to work but doesn't reconnect to hub. So deleted both from hub, nothing I do will now make them connect. No support online apart from hard reset & start again which I have done many times.1
Work Great with Apple HomeKitVerified ReviewerVery badly advertised. This plug is useless on it's own. To get a basic setup, you need at least one plug and one steering device (a remote control.) You can then control the plug (on/off) with the remote control. You can control up to 10 plugs with the remote control. They will all do the exact same. Power on/off all 10 plugs. Not very useful, they are capable of far more! Add the Round Base Station and cable that into your Router and you can now get the power of the toys. You will now be able to use the App on your phone. This now allows individual control of the devices. eg. Power On/Off each plug individually. This means to get control from your phone, you need at least 1 plug, one remote control, and 1 Hub. Note that the remote control is probably only going to be used to pair the plug to the Hub, and then you'll do everything from your phone. Once you have this all working with the IKEA app, you can add the Hub to your Apple HomeKit by scanning the code on the back of the Hub. Now you can get HomeKit automations and Siri integration, and you have the full power of the setup. (Alexa needs a similar setup to HomeKit) Once you have this stuff working HomeKit, it's great. Plugs are cheap and you can just keep expanding it. The same is true for the Light Bulbs. You need the bulb, a remotr control and the hub to control them from your phone or Alexa or Siri. Initial setup is more expensive than initially expected as you need a plug (£10) Remote (£15) Hub(£25) but once you have that, each additional plug is just £10.5
Would probably be a fantastic product butVerified ReviewerWould probably be a fantastic product but nowhere did it say that a gateway was need so I now have 2 smart plugs that are useless well advertised not1
Great when you pair it with a 'steering device'.Verified ReviewerDoes what it should, gives control (on / off) to a mains socket. No problems so far, easy to set up. Happy.5
Wireless control plugVerified ReviewerHaving problems sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. We spoke to a staff member and they said to return it as it sounds faulty. We have another plug the same and that one works perfectly and has done so for the last 9 months.3

Easy and affordable home lighting technology

Rebecca Töreman is facing a group of journalists. They’re visiting the headquarters of IKEA design with hopes of glimpsing innovative products. They bustle to see and touch what Rebecca and her team have spent the last two years creating: the IKEA Smart lighting range.

Rebecca is ready. She knows the reasoning and effort behind every aspect of the range, and she can explain how it will change life at home for the better. But her audience is enthralled with something she forgot could be exciting. “People were amazed with the remote,” says Rebecca. “That you could steer your lamps from wherever you are.” She laughs, pleased to be reminded it can be a delight to control the brightness or tone of a bulb remotely. “When you work with it so closely you get used to the products and the things they can do,” says Rebecca. “So, when you hear people ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ over the design and function of the remote—which I see every day—you feel very proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Improving life at home

Smart lighting is one way we’re using technology to improve life at home. Imagine a cosy weekday family dinner, lights glowing soft and warm. When the meal is done, the table is cleared for homework, which calls for clean, bright light. The goal of Rebecca and the Smart lighting team is to make that transition simple and smooth. Literally, it can be at the touch of a button. “Lighting is such an important part of life at home,” says Rebecca. “You do so many activities every day at home and the light needs to support you in doing all these things.” The range is made up of products that can be combined to create a personalised home lighting solution. It includes LED bulbs, panels and cabinet doors that can all be controlled by a remote. You can dim them and even change the tone of the light, from warm to cold. One remote can control up to 10 Smart lighting products.

Making home tech affordable

Smart lighting technology isn’t new, but so far it hasn’t been so accessible. “It’s been very expensive and complicated,” says Rebecca. “If we can develop Smart lighting that’s easy to understand and affordable, it actually becomes accessible to the many people.” When it comes to cost, Rebecca and her team set a personal goal. “What would we want to pay for a light bulb like this?” asks Rebecca. “We’ve been going back to this idea throughout the whole process.” Working with large volumes has helped lower costs. And, by collaborating with experienced tech suppliers, we’ve been able to find smart ways to save. Those savings are then passed on to the customer.

User friendly and convenient

By offering “kits” that have everything you need to get started, we make it easier to have Smart lighting in your home. And, if you end up wanting to expand your solution, it’s simple. “You can start with the function that suits you and your family’s life, and you can build on that,” says Rebecca. You can look forward to even more Smart lighting products from IKEA in the future. “There will be upgrades and new things customers can do to improve and build on the system,” says Rebecca, who sees a fuss-free future where very little can interrupt a lazy afternoon. “If you sit in your sofa and want to turn on the light, but the light switch is over on the wall, well, obviously with the wireless remote you don’t actually have to get up!”
