I liked everything about what I could see of Floreana.

I liked everything about what I could see of Floreana. As a scientist and a Naturalist I liked the marine fauna (see turtles, sea lions, and a particular variety of pinkish-greenish iguana (due to diet, not a different species) that are easy to observe from the port docks. I liked the Loberia, a coastal system located west from the town center, and another coastal areas (on the east) with a lot of nice volcanic rocks colored by encrusting microorganisms. There was a small lagoon with 3 flamingos, which can be seen sometimes but not all times. So I was very fortunate. There is also a nice highland area, which can be reached by local transportation $2 roundtrip where there is a small sanctuary for rescued giant Galapagos, a rock labyrinth, pirate caves, and a freshwater source that supply the village. I like the local community that is trying to remain sustainable and practice sustainable activities, which I hope can remain so. I hope that at least Floriana can be preserved this way for many years to come for and from the future generations of locals and travelers. I was also planning to visit more of the volcanic highland which are permitted from access by the local Park Service, and another coastal area, but I have to drop this as there is not enough time. I fully enjoyed my stay at the Black Beach house on the sea side of a beautiful beach of black volcanic sand. Good location for solo travelers.

A very beautiful island remote and still very authentic, owning a versatile landscape : white and black beaches, lava rocks and green high hills. The place was the first inhabited island on the Galapagos and holds a fascinating history. There are very few visitors visiting it, which makes it even more special. The Black Beach House and the Wittmer Hotel offer beautiful accommodations just facing the sea.
