Classic Super-Fast Thermapen is a professional tool (originally designed for commercial kitchens, labs and manufacturing plants) that has become the top consumer cooking thermometer for home use. Its popularity among celebrity chefs, cooking magazines, top foodies, bloggers and competition BBQ teams has made the Thermapen into an essential tool in the best-equipped home kitchens and backyard BBQ rigs.

Compare

Made by Hand in England, the Thermapen is faster and more accurate than any other cooking thermometer on the market. Competitors have tried to copy the Thermapen with mass-produced products made in China and have flooded the housewares market with slower, less-accurate knock-offs. However, when compared to true competing commercial thermocouple thermometers, the Thermapen is not only faster and more accurate, it's also less expensive!

The Thermapen's speed and accuracy will reveal more about food and cooking techniques than you ever imagined. You'll learn that temperatures are always changing; a roast is never the same temperature throughout while cooking. If you want to know what's really going on, get a Thermapen.

If you want to experience speed and precision (traceable to National Standards) and you're on a quest for culinary perfection, you will want a Thermapen. Add up the expense of wasted meats alone and you'll justify the cost of this professional tool.

A Thermapen can be used for virtually anything that needs to be cooked or chilled. Use it on meats, fish, casseroles, re-heated foods, breads, cakes, deep frying and candy. You don't have to have a Thermapen to be a great cook; however, more than one celebrity chef and several food writers have testified that a Thermapen will make you a better cook...AND, you can choose your own color! Pass
Spent a small fortune on the thermapen. Worked great until the battery died. Tried to remove the back cover to replace the battery and the cover is completely seized on. Now the back of my thermapen is torn up from my efforts trying to get the cover off, and it's still not off. I have a thermapen I can't use because I can't replace the battery. Save your money!

Add trouble shooting step
One week ago I was going to measure the temperature of a bowl of soup, opened the probe but there was no display. I had been using the Thermapen for only two weeks, this was the first case of trouble. I opened and closed the probe several times but no change. I opened the battery cover, looked inside, but did not touch anything. I was going to call tech support Monday but first I took one more look at the Thermapen. This time I opened the battery cover and lifted the battery contact. When I released the contact, the screen displayed the temperature. Problem solved. This needs to be added to trouble shooting instructions. In over thirty years of working for AT&T, most troubles were cleared by removing and reinserting the circuit pack. Poor connections and low voltages result in troubles.

Highly recommend
Great product! If you don't mind waiting a second or two for the temperature save your money and get this one. I like how large the display screen is, it makes it easy for my old eyes to read the temperature. Highly recommend!

10 Year Review
We purchased a refurbished/open-box Classic Thermapen in July, 2014 (Order number [order number removed]). It has faithfully measured temperatures, keeping both us and our guests safe over 10 years time. We love it. In fact, we love it so much we have purchased both this and other products as gifts. After 10 years, it has finally started wearing out. When opened, it doesn't always power on. Sometimes we have to close/open the probe several times to get it to turn on. 10 years is a pretty good run, and I suppose we have arrived at the point where we will now replace the unit. We highly recommend this product for its durability and reliability. Cheers!

Why did you choose this?

Saw it being used on GBBShow

I love mine and I need a second one!

Already use it.

Best instant read thermometer on the market, end of story.

Can I use this as a candy thermometer?

Yes, you can. In fact, the Thermapen is our preferred choice for candy making. It's fast. It's accurate. It's the perfect tool for keeping on top of the fast-moving temperature changes that occur during the last moments of a candy-making cook. We highly recommend the Thermapen for this application.

Does this Thermopen come with a certificat of calibration?

Yes, it comes with a calibration certificate.

Different parts of meat measure different temperatures, how do you know which one is accurate?

Unlike dial thermometers, where the sensor can be in the shaft of the probe, the temperature sensor in a Thermapen is in the very tip of the probe. This is important. It means, wherever you put the tip of the probe, that is where your Thermapen is measuring temperature.

Different spots of meat are different temperatures. The best way to measure the doneness of meat is to push the probe tip just past the center of the food while it is cooking (being careful not to go all the way through) and to pull the probe tip back up through the food until you find the coolest spot. You'll actually notice the numbers on the Thermapen display change as you move the tip around. That's because different parts of the food are at different temperatures while it cooks.

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of your Thermapen, or any other thermometer, the best way to test them is with a properly made ice bath test, as it’s a standard laboratory test that is easily replicated at home. If your Thermapen is accurate, it will read within ± 0.7°F of 32°F (31.3 to 32.7°F). If it is reading accurately in this test, you can rest assured that it is reading accurately in various spots in food and at higher temperatures. Directions for conducting a proper ice bath can be found here:

can you use a classic thermapen to measure skillet temperature before searing a steak?

If the pan has oil or butter in it, then yes, you can use your Classic Thermapen. However, if your skillet is dry, you'll want to use an infrared gun, as they are used to measure surface temperatures.

You can find our selection of Infrared Guns here:

Does it read water/liquid temperatures too?

Yes, it does. You can use a Thermapen to take the temperature of any food or liquid (and many other things, too)!

Display rotates?

The Classic Thermapen's display does not rotate. You'll want to look at the Thermapen ONE instead, as it has an auto-rotating display. It's available here: https://www.thermoworks.com/thermapen-one

What is the button inside next to the battery?

It is the trim adjustment. You can read more about it in the Operating Instructions that came with your Thermapen. You may also find the Operating Instructions online here:

Calibration and Trim Adjustment Instructions may be found here

fNote: If the Thermapen is within specifications, we do not recommend using the trim adjust feature.. It should not be needed in normal use.

Can you use the thermapen to check how hot grease is?

Yes, you may.

Is there a warranty on this?

Yes, Classic Thermapen comes with a 2-year warranty. You can find the warranty terms here:

https://www.thermoworks.com/product-warranty/

can a thermapen be used as an oral thermometer?

No, it cannot. We recommend that you look at WAND™ - No Touch Digital Forehead Thermometer, which is FDA-Cleared for taking human temperatures. You may find it here: https://www.thermoworks.com/wand
