About the author
Peter Linenthal is the author, illustrator, and sometimes both of more than a dozen children's books. He's taught art in elementary schools for almost thirty years and lives in San Francisco, California. His most recent book, 'Jaya's Golden Necklace: a Silk Road Tale', has a theme of mindfulness for children. Little Jaya finds strengths and abilities she didn't know she had while on an exciting journey with her father. The first story of the Buddha image for children, it takes place in the multi-cultural Kushan Empire on the ancient Silk Road and includes the recipe for Jaya's mom's apricot/almond cake!
His 'Look, Look!' series of four board books are extremely popular and have been included in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The high-contrast illustrations are an immediate hit with very young children.
Peter worked with the innovative children's author Ann Morris for many years illustrating and taking photos for her books. In the series 'What Was It Like, Grandma?' grandmothers of six ethnicities answer that question posed by their grandchild.
Peter is now working with archaeologists on a catalog of his collection of Central Asian antiquities, 'The Kushan Connection', which inspired 'Jaya's Golden Necklace'. He directs a neighborhood history group, The Potrero Hill Archives Project and is co-author of two books by Arcadia on Potrero Hill.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 7, 2020Verified PurchaseWell I got burned again for being lazy and cheap. I thought it was a good deal for a new book for me to add to the library in my house that I never use and no one cares about. I opened it upon recieving it and found the pictures to be a subtle nod to my days of taking heavy drugs. The plot and speed of what can only be described as the narrative of the missing years of my life was a pleasant depressing adventure in futility. Upon realizing it was meant for a child, I passed it to my own child. Who quickly screamed, put it in the mouth and pooped themselves. Again, a nostalgic nod to my younger years. Would definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 11, 2019Verified PurchaseMy baby boy loved this book starting around 2 weeks old. He would stare at the images and it seemed to really help his visual development!
- Reviewed in Canada on March 20, 2019Verified PurchaseI love this book. I was able to use it almost as soon as my newborn was born. Even with limited sight, this was something she could see and something that would get her attention in the early days. In the early days, babies are attracted to high contrast images, so these large black and white images were great. I used it to distract her during diaper changes. I would recommend every new parent to try these high contrast books.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 1, 2022Verified PurchaseGot this for my infant to stare at. Now I don’t know if it works for sure but my baby likes to stare and study Different pictures.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 26, 2020Verified PurchaseThere are lots of black and white books available. This is the first one I bought and my baby loves it the best. He is fascinated by it and wants to touch and hold it.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 14, 2020Verified PurchaseThis book was recommended to me and I’m glad it was. He loves to stare at the pages while doing tummy time and I can stretch out his tolerance of it by changing the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Value for money
Verified PurchaseI had procured some other high contrast books before this one. As those were expensive and quality products, I was initially suspicious that this one may not attract my baby . But I was wrong. My baby has been mesmerised by this book. She looks simple and big pictures curiously for long time and really enjoys the whole book.....Value for money, I must admit.....
