About

He didn't name it and doesn't refer to it as such, but folk-rock legend Bob Dylan has been on what's become known as his Never Ending Tour since 1988. The longest the Minnesota native has gone without playing a concert since then was a three-month break he took in 1997 to recover from what could have been a fatal chest infection.

Dylan has played more than 2,500 gigs during this incredible run, and despite a catalog that dates back more than a half century, the shows aren't greatest-hits rehashes. The iconoclastic singer-songwriter tends to focus on whatever his latest musical project happens to be, and he often reworks his well-known songs significantly. Dylan's current backing band -- all of whom played on his 2012 studio album, Tempest -- has a bit of a country vibe, and  usually features guitarists Stu Kimball and Charlie Sexton along with Tony Garnier (bass), drummer George Receli (drums), and  Donnie Herron (pedal steel, lap steel, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola).

Dylan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and he would have landed there based on his work in the 1960s alone, when he wrote and recorded some of the most enduring and groundbreaking material in musical history. Though his '60s songbook includes classics like "Blowin' in the Wind," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," "Like a Rolling Stone," and "I Want You," he hasn't stopped writing and recording critically acclaimed material, and is constantly mining his archives to release previously unreleased material.

    Spellbinding

    by Peter on 3/17/24

Dylan is a wonder - the troubadour of our times with lyrical lineage tracing back directly to Homer. He’s a mirror into your soul. A performer that only comes around once. Don’t expect nostalgia or a rehash of the past, and those things aren’t good for you anyway.

    Tough sledding

by JH on 3/14/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

3 stars is generous. I'm a lifelong Dylan fan. I have the album, "Rough and Rowdy Ways", that this show was based on. Having said that, I'm used to his voice style, and thought I knew what to expect. Apparently, the show producers and especially the sound board engineers, did not. We sat 2 rows in back of, and directly behind the sound board. Zimmerman's vocals were unusually low and undiscernable. I get, and have always enjoyed, his vocals. His versions of the album cuts were altered, such is the artists choice. However, I felt the show was low energy, which made it difficult for my wife, who is not a big fan, to get in to enjoying his talent. The low energy, bad audio settings, and for the price point ($$$), made it a disappointing event to enjoy an American treasure.

worse concert I have ever been too

by 3eagles on 3/6/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Luckily I did not pay the price the others did around me as they paid 3 and 4 times what I did. Before the concert they were saying how they had been to see him before so I was really looking forward to it as it was are first time. Everyone around me did not last 40 minutes into the show and got up and left. You could not understand any of his lyrics as the band drowned him out. He also did not play one familiar song. Very disappointing. My advise if you bought tickets is to resale them and make a profit don't waste your time. He requires Yondr pouch

    Hmm. mostly mediocre

by DaveF on 3/5/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

It was comprised of hard to decipher lyrics to recent hitless song selections. Uneven instrumentals. No guitar nor harmonica use by Bob. Not our hoped for performance

    Dylan had some good points

by Mik on 3/5/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

He had points where his star qualities shined but he stuck to the piano and his current album setlist, would luv if he gave people what they wanted a greatest hits tour! At times I thought he was like a bear in a circus just going through the act without much energy or enthusiasm, was he forced to tour hes 82 yrs youg.

    Not What I expected

by Notwhatiexpected on 3/5/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The show started with curtain down I heard instrumental tuning in the background , Curtain goes up everyone is in position and playing , No introduction , this went on for 1.5 hours each song an unknown , the most disappointing is no harp playing and none of his iconic music was played. Dylan’s voice is Still in great tone .

    Boring and Dull

by R Kurtz on 3/5/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

This concert is for the most diehard fans of Bob Dylan. The rest of us, stay away. This concert was like being on XANAX. There was not a single dollar spent on staging, lights, or anything to enhance the experience. Dylan played a set of songs of which, not a single song did I recognize. He didn't sing at all. Rather he spoke his words to the beat of the slowest music I ever had to sit through. Not once did he change the tempo of the set or songs. Even the musicians were ready to fall asleep. What Bob Dylan is famous for, being unintelligible, he didn't disappoint. They absolutely needed closed captioning to know what he was saying! Imagine paying $1300 for two seats to the most boring show I ever saw!
